Thanks for the reply. He lives in a house, I right in thinking these Mifi devices need somebody else to connect to?

Mifi devices use a mobile phone SIM, and then you'd get your internet access for your computer/phone via WiFi from the Mifi device.  You'd need to get a SIM from a mobile phone service provider (AIS, True, DTAC, etc.) and sign up for a data plan from them for three months.

Or, if you already have a mobile phone with a Thailand SIM, just tether your computer to your mobile phone and get an adequate data plan for the phone, and skip the separate Mifi device.

  2. Thanks, everybody for the information.  Indeed disappointing to hear that Sony has stopped selling phones in Thailand.  They were the last manufacturer to build small form factor, top end phones.  I will be in NYC in April (Songkran in Pattaya is not for me) and will take a look there.

  3. I'm looking for a small, one-handed phone that also fits comfortably in a pocket to replace my iPhone SE whose battery capacity is dwindling.  I had hopes that the rumors of a Sony XZ4 Compact had been true, but their new line of phones was just released without it.

I had a Sony Z3 Compact in the past, and liked it.  Sony made their Compact models with the same high-end internals as their full-size counterparts.  The Sony XZ2 Compact, released last year, seems to be the last in the line of high-end compact phones, so I want to handle one and see if it works for me.

Closest only to find  =sonyxzpremium at powerbuy , almost all shopping malls have a department store of them

Thanks, but the Power Buy at Central Festival does not carry any Sony phones, or at least so the sales person there told me.

  5. Thanks.  I know I can order online, but I'd feel more comfortable with "knowing" the phone by actually seeing and holding it, first.

(Example:  I looked at the iPhone XS while I was at the mall, and really didn't like the feel of it.)

    [edited to add]

I searched for "sony xz2 compact" on Lazada, and all that comes up are accessories for the phone.  Does nobody really still sell that model phone?

  6. The past couple months I've increasingly had pain/stiffness in my knees & hips.  Probably just my age catching up with me, but want to see what's up.  Any recommendations for a good doctor in Pattaya?  If there is an overwhelming recommendation for someone in Bangkok, I would make the trip,  just like I would make the trip to the BNH Spine Clinic without hesitation if my back bothers me again.  However, if there's a good doctor in Pattaya of course it would be preferred.

  7. Try something simple first:  Start using a "sensitive teeth" toothpaste.

A major dental hospital in Bangkok had me signed up for root canals (plural) due to symptoms very similar to yours.  They said I had micro-fractures that didn't show up on an x-ray.  A couple appointments got botched (scheduled when there was no doctor actually available) so I got irritated and went to a German dental clinic in Pattaya.  Dentist said nothing looked wrong to him and suggested the toothpaste change.  Within days, I had no more pain.  A bonus was that he didn't even charge for my visit.

  8. I'm considering buying a Sony mobile phone, and would like to actually see/handle one before I do.  I just returned from Central Festival and the Sony store on 3F has closed.  I tried all the phone shops on that floor and "No have."  Even Power Buy "no have."

Any idea where in Pattaya (authentic) Sony mobile phones are sold?

PS:  The Sony store locator web site still lists the Central Festival store, and no others.

[edited to add:]  Even the store with this large banner didn't sell Sony phones:

'The baht hit a five-year high against the dollar on Feb. 20. '

Dont understand this part, looking at XE.com historical data I saw that it was it highest over 5 years in mid 2015 (36.4), in Feb it was 31.87.

I would have thought Reuters would be more accurate, or am I missing something here?

Yes, you are looking at it the wrong way round. When the Baht is strong you get fewer THB for your USD, so the point in 2015 you refer to when the USD got you 36.4 THB/USD would be the point where the THB was at a five year low against the USD.

@sungod Easy mistake to make.  On the bright side, you might have a bright career ahead of you with the Thai Central Bank.

  10. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I've lived in the area for a few years now, but never looked for, nor remember seeing, a nice coffee shop near Jomtien Complex.  Are there any?  I'm looking for a place you could sit with a friend for a few hours shooting the breeze while enjoying a few coffees or teas and maybe a small snack.  I'd actually settle for a Starbucks, but I know there isn't one in the area.

  11. I will echo the recommendations for East Coast Realty from the above posts.  I would add a recommendation for Stu Sutton at Jomtien Property.

I have bought and sold condos with both David and Stu and feel they did a very good job.  Plus, both agencies are good about keeping out-of-date listings off their web site.
