Maybe the reality of no tourists will sink in? Do you think that maybe the wonderfully intelligent Thai authorities might consider treating the long term expats here now a little better now and incentivizing us to spend more here?

Every person capable of logical thinking would do so. But don't bet on it with this government.

In China At least their citizens listen and obey the rules when needed. Unlike a lot of "first world countries".

Don't they have to? Social score system.

Any freedom loving person is horrified by this system. Nobody understands why the Chinese follow their oppressors so passionately under the guise of nationalism.

I ask because item #4 is out of date. Entries are no longer limited to emergencies. Reads to me like a low level clerk (which is who usually receives emails) sent out an old boilerplate response. Likely they have not yet developed a new one.

Would be worth calling their international dept or else sending another email in a week or two. Calling is always better.

I think they are still trying to figure out what the government wants. Not easy, even for the hospitals.

It's not schizophrenia. They want the rich customers first and the cheap charlies later.

If I would be rich and would want to get an expensive heart surgery in Thailand, I need a certificate that this surgery is not possible in my home country.

So they want my money, but they don't let me in.

    Strange and schizo..

Acc to London embassy website you require a letter from a doctor in your country to say that the treatment can't be done in your home country and you need to get it done in TH. Ok if you come from Middle East.

This seems to be true according to this graphic.

"Certificate of medical institutional from leaving country"

There is much more involved in setting up quarantine facilities than unshuttering a hotel and calling it a quarantine facility. New Zealand (much more restrictive than Thailand about returnees) has been struggling to increase its quarantine facilities to safely expand its ability to receive arrivals from 300 to 400 per day. The effort involves hundreds of staff across the government and including the military.

I am not sure how determined the Thai authorities are about isolating arrivals from the community and from each other, but it is a significant organisational challenge to do properly.

It's not rocket science to put people in an empty airport into a car provided by the quarantine hotel bring them to the hotel and lock them into their room for two weeks. Then take two samples and send it to the lab.

No, but nor does it say whether the flight ban is lifted and that incoming flights can land.  It doesn't specifically refer to any type of entry, and there many people stranded across the border in Laos and other neighbouring countries, who meet the conditions referred to in the 6 groups (including my wife and son!).

Hopefully, things will be clarified further tomorrow.

We go from one confusing and tentatively situation to the next.

When will we be able to go, endless story.
