    24 year old Mazda.

    50 K to buy it.

    10 K a year to maintain it.

When it breaks or after 5 years throw it away.

Cube root of <deleted> all prestige, but at the end of the day it is only a car. Who will remember it (Merc or Mazda) 10 minutes after you drive by?

Are you talking about my wife's advert...she has had her 1996 Mazda Lantis from new ... do you want to buy it ... 555

Buying a Benz as a first car, especially in Thailand, may be a bit of a costly adventure (but at least you should get waived through all police checkpoints...but not guaranteed with only a C-Class). The cost to service out of warranty is very high...but if you can afford to buy I assume you can afford to service. I would check out the major online car sales sites in Thailand (don't know if allowed to mention them by name but a G-search will bring them right up). Official dealer demos can be good choice too.

There are four options available to buy various levels of extra manufactures warranty and/or service costs provided your car is less than three years old and 100,000kms. You can purchase up to a total of eight years. It will allow you to sleep at night!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a golf buddy purchased a new Merc & 3 months later he drove through some standing water as I did in my Honda within 2 minutes of each other.

They told him that his  engine totalled & need to get new one from factory in Germany.

That was at least 2 months ago & still has no car back nor would they give him a loan car for the duration.

Hopeless crowd  when consider the kind of monies they want for a Merc

Very foolish not to either avoid standing water, as you don't know how deep it is, or to go through too fast ... and clearly eg one car will go through 12" deep water safely whilst another will only make 11" ...

I know a few guys who buy on eBay. There are some good shops in Germany, where they buy totaled cars, cut them up in Eastern Europe, and sell the parts.

one problem might be to get a mechanic change them.

I just had our Airmatic system replaced, found all the parts on eBay, but no one here would change it if the parts were not new, so ended up getting it done at Mercedes Thailand.

You should join MBEQTH and the MB Owners Club both on FB... all the info that you want there. Someone is even selling 'repaired' Airmatics with a guarantee. Thompson Garage in Bang Na tend to be Merc specialists. There are also 'model' clubs eg MB E-Class W213 club. If you are out of warranty dealerships maybe should be your last choice...

Hybrids achieve greater fuel efficiency largely through energy recovery (charging battery) when decelerating. The brakes last years because there is so little wear. Hybrid gains are in stop/start urban and suburban driving. On the open highway you're running on the IC engine most of the time so savings are quite limited.

Some of the Hybrids use the Atkinson cycle engine. So some saving in efficiency over what we would consider as a normal cycle for the IC engine.

PHEV is probably the way to go until fully electric becomes the norm. If you can manage to save the battery for use in heavy traffic then it does make quite a difference with your consumption and exhaust emissions.

I find running in ESave mode is quite sensible...it still is in hybrid mode but keeps the hybrid battery at the charge level when you select that mode ...awaiting the heavy traffic!!!

Weaken, it's 41.20 to the £ today, I can see it dropping more, possibly around 43 at some point this year.

You might be right let’s hope so. Just now it was the highest it’s been in the last 12 months.

I have just moved half the money I need from the UK using TransferWise after all charges I got 41.04. So received 102,622 for 2500 GBP.

Maybe tomorrow it will be even better...

  7. My wife always insists that we register the car in the province where we live. She says some of the annual tax goes towards mending the local roads.

Maybe there is some left after nearly everyone has had a nibble....

I think new plates cost about 200 baht

  8. Yes you should get a NCB

We are with Bangkok insurance this year paid 13,000 THB for MY15 3.2L Everest

You will get a big discount if you limit it to just two drivers and also another 5% if you have a car dash camera.

Yes, the pay out value drops every year and it is about 80% of what the car should be worth.
