  1. Look.

The EU average of "annual paid holiday" is 25 days.

You lose 2 days flying to Thailand.

You lose 2 days flying back to EU.

You spend 14 days in quarantine.

    Total time lost 18 days.

You may therefore have 1 week holiday.  And thats it. Finished.  No more.

Or you choose a country with no quarantine requirement and spend 1 week there.  Then later in the year 2 weeks somewhere else.  And then a final week break somewhere else end of the year.

Now............who will choose to lose all their annual holiday entitlement for 1 week in Thailand ?

My understanding is that the scientists need to prove that vaccinated people cannot spread Covid-19 rather than just assume.

Once vaccination becomes widespread the statistics will become available, and international guidance issued for some or all vaccines.

At that point Covid-19 may well be treated like yellow fever, once you have proof of vaccination you should be free to travel.

I am free to travel now !!!!!!!!!!

Lots of countries in the world are open.............there is the world out there.   I have been in 5 countries this year, and off to another soon and then another in January.  All is fine in the world, some countries have sensible entry requirements.........some are crazy.

And one hopes reciprocity will be applied...........so any country demanding vaccine certificates will be hit with the rest of the world banning their citizens from entry unless they also have a vaccine certificate.  Reciprocity is the best leveller.

  3. Nobody is Asymptomatic.........and there are false positives.........thats the most likely explanation.

If you are in ASQ and someone tells you your PCR was positive and you are probably asymptomatic.......what can you do ??????

Nothing.  You are just another statistic.

One wonders if these positives are not false positives but FAKE positives.......keep the headline running of those dirty farangs so its easier to keep the borders shut and the tourism industry dying............ less protests.

Incorrect. The health authorities of the governments of individual EU member nations can decide if and when they want to use any vaccine. I understand that Hungary is already doling out the Russian 'Sputnik' jab.

"Hungary can purchase and distribute the Russian-made vaccine against Covid-19 - but only if it invokes emergency procedures and keeps it within its own borders, the EU warned on Monday (30 November)."

    https://euobserver.com/coronavirus/150228

"The American-German Pfizer vaccine can be licensed soon in Hungary; furthermore, the first vaccinations can already begin in December."

    https://dailynewshungary.com/pfizer-to-be-the-first-coronavirus-vaccine-in-hungary/

The myth about the EU calling the shots on the shots was shot down by the UK's own Matt Hancock as soon as the No deal Brexiteers invented it.

    Awaiting EU approval.

Belgium and other EU countries could be set to follow UK with vaccine rollout (theparliamentmagazine.eu)

Belgium is one of the main producers of vaccine.

No, I certainly am not becoming a nationalist- chauvinist, but .....

    Belgium is an EU country.

They are not allowed to use the Pfizer vaccine until its been approved by the EU.

No vaccine can be given in any EU country until the EU approves it.

  6. 9. Better chance to get a vaccine in your home country then wait in Thailand.

    - How do you know that? - when it gets to Thailand people will be able to ‘buy’ the vaccine. In our home countries those in the high risk groups will be at the top of the list. If you are a 35 year old tourist or a 55 year old retiree and not a front line worker you will still have to wait a long time in your home country if you want the vaccine, or go private.

No chance of expats buying vaccine in Thailand in 2021 or 2022 in my view.  Thailand has only purchased a very limited supply.  Every country is scraping all the barrels to get vaccine (apart from UK and USA and EU who have purchased pretty much all).

Expats in Thailand will be bottom of the queue.............and when they start saying "no vaccine no flight" then they wont be flying anywhere either.

Belgium has decided to make vaccination available to all legal residents, including non citizens, such as my wife.

Belgium has not got any vaccine.

And will not have any like all other EU countries until late January at the earliest.  Maybe later.

The point of my post is............  expats in Thailand will not be getting any of the limited supply Thailand has purchased I am very sure of that.

  8. I would not worry, Thailand will not be able to open until 2022 most likely.

Vaccination will not start until perhaps May or June. Will take at least 6 months and then only offer 60% protection.

So Thailand will suffer continuous threat of Covid, as it has no herd immunity as it had no solid 1st or 2nd wave, for all of 2021.

    So no opening until 2022,

Why do you think Thai Airways is not bothering restarting.......there is no point........Thailand will most likely remain closed for all of 2021.

Thailand is still a magnet for tourists.  Theses experts are delusional,

and now they appreciate expats.  Prove it by making the immigration process less troublesome

    They cannot.

With basically no first wave, no herd immunity and no vaccine.............Thailand cannot open up in 2021.

At best it looks like perhaps November 2021 before the borders can be opened a little bit.  Most likely January 2022 the borders can open, in time for Chinese New Year 2022.

Thailand will not be able to vaccinate the at risk population until late 2021, so no chance to open the borders up.

EU and USA will be back to normal by May 2021............  good herd immunity soon from solid 1st and 2nd waves and backed up by vaccination.

Flu and Covid vaccines will only offer 50% to 60% efficacy in the normal real world (not trials done with face masks and social distancing).............. so unless you had strong 1st and 2nd waves with lots of cases and lots of natural immunity..........you are in a bad place trying to rely only on a vaccine.

  10. The trouble for Thailand is that they have not had a real 1st wave.

The vaccination, like flu, in real life is probably 50% to 60% effective, like Flu vaccine.  This is very normal and will be shown once  tens of millions are vaccinated - not just tens of thousands.

In a country, like the UK, or USA, or Italy etc... where that been solid 1st and 2nd waves, there is now natural immunity levels around 40% of the population.

The vaccine on top of this will push it up so that Covid is gone.

Now you get dumb countries like Australia, Thailand, New Zealand - with no natural immunity...........the vaccination will not prevent a  wave of Covid infections going on for one or two or three years - it will become endemic in these countries........as there is no natural immunity and death of the weak which should have happened.

So its highly likely Thailand will remain closed for at least another 2 years and probably multiple vaccinations of every person in Thailand to try to get the immunity they lack from not having a hard 1st and 2nd wave like the USA and UK and EU.

    Short term gain.................LONG TERM PAIN.

UK/US/EU have had short term pain........but will have no long term pain now.

Once the EU and UK and US are all free of Covid...........places like Thailand will be on the "no travel" list, as they will have prolonged endemic Covid in the years to come.

Thats the reality of what is very possibly going to happen.
