would like to come in on this about myself if that is okay? I live in Surin on a OA Retirement Visa Can I make a land border crossing at Chong Chom into Cambodia without a re entry permit? Then come back into Thailand and to the local Thai immigration Office to apply for a Non O Retirement visa? And use a letter of income from my embassy ( NZ ) 18 months ago I followed that exact route to change from OA visa to O using chong chom border run but I was denied the initial 90 day at roiet immigration and advised to go to savannakhet which I did without any problems ,roiet then gave me the 12 months extension again no problems so the moral is ask your local IO if they will oblige before you go and save yourself money and anxiety,hope it works out for you.

use kasikorn bank in roi et and they do the 3 months statement and bank letter and book update on the day I visit the IO.

is the unofficial Cambodian charge for a same day return to Thailand still 300 baht or has it increased, Its a few years since I visited Chong Chom / O'smach They charged me 500

Hello I have read all the theories as to why my application was refused and I think the reason was I live 90 km from the office and they couldn't be bothered to do the home visit nothing else, just unlucky but infuriating and I know it is at the IO discretion so just be aware before making your choice. yesterday at 10:45 AM (edited) I killed my OA extension by taking a short trip to my home country and returned visa exempt, later applied for a non imm O visa based on retirement and a subsequent retirement extension. All successfully completed but had a home visit with photos of myself in front of the house number, sitting in the lounge and on my bed, I also received an under consideration stamp ( for retirement ) until my O visa expired and my extension granted. A little unusual, the last paragraph, and annoying but with a successful outcome. Now, a friend in exactly the same situation followed exactly the same route some 2 weeks after me. He had no home visit or under consideration stamp, a different immigration office. The only difference being my immigration office is 10 minutes away, his is 1 hour . Could this be the reason for different processes of the exact same situation ?? or one of the IO’s not following procedure . After considering my options I decided to do the chong chom border run to kill off my OA visa returning 30 days visa exempt and apply local IO for 90 day O visa based on retirement bad choices!!!!!!!!!! The border, run was fine done in 30 minutes no problems. Next went to local IO 3 days later with all documents in place or so I thought, The farang before me asked office supervisor if he could get a visa there and he was told yes just bring the relevant documents which he wrote out for him no mention of home photos or visit, I am not sure which visa was requested but the list related to a non O based on retirement I went next with all my documents for Non O based on retirement same guy he checked the docs then checked my passport shook his head and said go Laos you have no problems with these document's in Laos. if you want visa here big problems have to provide photos of home with woman and we need t.o do home visit visa take 2 months.Go LAOS? Hi I am thinking of doing a same day border bounce at chong chom or somewhere geographicanlly close to kill off my OA visa extension then convert to non O retirement at local IO . Has anyone gone through this process recently at this checkpoint and experienced any problems. What documents ,cash ,etc are needed many thanks

Thanks I do not wish to leave thailand every 90 days I want to do my reporting at local IO and all subsequent extensions also, so is it best to get a 90 day non O single entry based on retirement and then extend it locally within the 90 days, or can I get a 12 months non O based on retirement in savanakhet saving me having to go through the whole process again in 2 months but this option must allow me to do my repor,ting and future extensions internally many thanks.

If I get a 12 months multiple entry non O in savanakhet as indicated by the OP can I still do my 90 days reporting and future extensions at my local immigration office or do I need to leave the country every 90 days.thanks.

I also have my extension due on my OA visa and have the required 3 million Baht Inpatient cover however my insurance and visa extension dates are out of sync .I understand if I go for my extension I will be given the full 12 months v8sa extension but my permission to stay will be stamped 6 months or my insurance expiry date .When I renew my insurance will immigration simply re stamp my permission to stay to the end of the visa extension and are there any additional cost and paperwork required to do this ,thanks.

I currently have a OA visa which I have extended for 7 years , I made enquiries through a major thai insurer after the changes October 22 as to the 3 million coverage requirement as the order does not specify anything related to outpatient cover only 3 million + covid and I was informed the company had clarified this through the thai embassy and they stated outpatient cover was a requirement. I have now purchased 3 million Baht policy with pacific Cross for Inpatient cover only and on the policy document it states 3million cover + covid however the previous declaration stating this complies with all OA visa requirements is missing. Please could anyone in the process of OA visa extensions update this thread with the results many thanks.

I think perhaps you're mixing a couple of things (or I'm misreading). You obtain a Non-O and then using that visa you get a permission to stay based on retirement - for 12 months at a time. If you stay in Thailand for 90 days you will have to do a 90 day report - if you leave the 90 day countdown is reset. Thanks I understand the process of disposing with the OA visa and obtaining the initial non O retirement visa either in Laos etc and extending it for 12 months at my local IO ,or doing the border bounce entering on a 45 VOA and obtaining the initial non O and subsequent extension at my local IO however I am still unclear of the rules regarding multi or single entry options . can I do my 90 days reporting at my local IO with a multiple entry non O ? Or am I required to leave the country every 90 days.

If you obtain a non O based on retirement in Thailand what is the difference between single and multiple entry options, my understanding is with the multiple entry you can come and go as you please without re entry permit but have to leave thailand every 90 days whereas the single entry allows you to attend your local IO , am I correct in this assumption as I will be in the same position as the poster at a later date.thanks.

If you get a multiple entry O visa you are required to leave the country every 90 days opposed to attending your local IO ,is this not correct?

Sorry to butt in but in relation to savannakhet can you get a single entry non o based on retirement at the consulate? A lot of good experience learned on this forum saves making time consuming decisions many thanks.

I extended my OA visa in June at roi -et using current lmg policy no problems.

Thank you very much Joe and Jack for clarifying that now I just have to decide wether to extend my current OA visa for 1 more year and wait untill the entry restrictions are eased further as I have already paid the required insurance vald untill June 2023 this is dependant on the IO accepting the guidelines 400000/40000 as another thread has experienced dificulties or jumping before I am pushed next year all comments greatly appreciated.

I am thinking you have a extension of stay based upon retirement issued by immigration for the one year entry you got from a OA visa. If a extension of stay it ends on the day your leave the country. You could leave the country at any time now to get a non-o visa. My original OA visa was issued in the UK in 2015 and has been extended at immigration in roi et every year since, I thought you had to leave the country shortly before it expires on June 27 without a re entry stamp in order for it to be terminated, so can I just leave anytime before June 27 and the OA is obsolete then obtain the O retirement visa in savanakhet? And which is best single or multiple entry for the O visa.cheers.

I assume do not have a valid re-entry permit. If you do have one you need to leave the country shortly before it expires and enter the country on or after the day it expires. No Joe I do not have a re entry permit and if possible I will go to savanakhet on the 26 or 27 June will both these dates be OK to let the OA expire? I will prob stay 2 nights to be sure, I am also unsure wether to get a single or multiple O retirement visa my understanding is that the multiple requires you to leave Thailand every 90 days whilst the single lets you do 90 day reports at the local IO is this correct? The would also proof of 800k baht in a bank. The insurance requirement for a non-o visa requirement was created for embassies and official consulates in you home country when they first opened the country for those who are retired in 2020. Thanks Joe good news I have the 800000 baht method in place, now I just need to get to savanakhet and back into Thailand next month 27th when my OA visa expires lets hope The land border is fully open both ways and Thai pass terminated by then I will be watching this forum closely for any news on this many thanks.

Hello on the requirements for a non O based on retirement in savanakhet it states a proof of pension obtained from your countries embassy is this necessary? as I am not in receipt of my state pension yet however I do have a work pension paid monthly any ideas,also I thought for the initial application for the non O retirement visa health insurance was introduced @ 400000/40000 is this no longer the case.

Good for 18 year old people If they have not been sick before Expats, without pre-sickness,do they exist ??
