  1. ????You are horrid! horrid! horrid! Showing off to us poor poverty-stricken plebiscite who scrimp and save. ????????
  2. The animals you quote for comparison are wild animals, a natural part of the ecology, that do not generally mix with the human population. Pit Bulls are 'Domestic' (I use the word domestic with reservation) animals bred for violence by humans and should therefore be eliminated by humans, they are not a natural part of the ecology and could even do damage to the natural ecology if allowed to run wild. There is no comparison whatsoever between wild animals and pit bulls in the context of this discussion
  3. We tend to use social definitions not medical ones
  4. Sorry I was wrong about the legal definition The social name for anyone who sexually molests a child (UK a child is under 16, I believe in Thailand it is under 15) is usually paedophile. However the medical definition says it is a condition of individuals who have a sexual attraction for prepubescent children. This topic is not about the medical definition. It is about the sexual molestation of children. Those who split hairs about what to call the evil creatures who target these underage girls seem to be indicating that they approve of sex with postpubescent underage girls See link to Serious Crimes Act 2015 (Part 5) Serious Crime Act 2015 (legislation.gov.uk)
  5. Actually Prepubescence has nothing to do with it Paedophiles are classed in law and common understanding as persons who engage in sex with children under the age of consent
  6. Thanks Puccini. If it is, as you say, a Thai way of saying no, without actually saying no, then I am all for it????
  7. Many Thanks for this information, Puccini. It begs the question "What is the purpose of this new act?" Is it opening the door to less wealthy foreigners or is it a codice to this existing act making it harder to own land. If less wealthy foreigners are allowed to buy land for holiday homes then the cost of housing will soar. We have seen this in England where small fishermen's cottages on the coast of Cornwall sell for £2,000,000 (86,000,000 baht) or more and locals cannot afford to buy homes And on a personal basis if my wife dies before me (May the Gods forbid it) am I entitled to own our home in Thailand? i.e. Section 93. For an alien who acquires land by inheritance as a legal heir, the Minister may permit acquisition of such land which, when combined with the land already owned, does not exceed the limit under Section 87.
  8. This is a very bad idea. If wealthy foreigners are allowed to buy land, the cost of land will rise and take it out of the reach of lower paid Thais.
  9. I believe that is the very law that is being changed
  10. I arrived at swampy at 7:30 pm on Tuesday 2nd Nov. It was not noticeably crowded seemed nearly empty many shop units closed or empty
  11. I contacted the foreign office UK regarding the permission to marry document. The answer is that it must be issued by the UK embassy in Thailand, it will not be accepted by the Amphur otherwise.. You can complete an online form in the UK then you make an appointment online at the UK embassy in Bangkok The lead time for an appointment is approximately 1 month. I completed the online system and made the appointment whilst in the UK. It must be translated along with passport and any divorce documents. All tjhe translated documents must be ratified by the Thai authorities. According to the information leaflet issued by the Amphur in Pattaya the British Embassy will recommend which translation service to use. You receive an email with a pdf of the permission to marry document attached. You must print it and take it with you to your appointment to be signed and stamped.
  12. I believe it was used as a method of protest by Buddhist monks
  13. Why do police officers have to buy their own guns? Surely they should be issued as tools of the trade and the issue controlled by a police armourer. Each gun would then be tracked and could be recalled and retrieved when the officer retires, is suspended or sacked then stored and re issued to another serving officer. Such a system might have prevented the massacre of those poor children and their carers. Do soldiers buy their own sub machine guns , grenades and rifles then take them home after work and when they retire? This is a recipe for arming insurgents.
  14. I agree it's just crocodile tears, he needs to be imprisoned for a couple of years, but I doubt that will happen.
  15. Not in the UK very strict laws. Strays are rounded up by the local authority dog warden
  16. I gather it's all about international fraud and money laundering which has increased geometrically since 2006. I want to open an account with Bangkok Bank but as my earlier post shows they require proof of identity and status. You probably got yours because the branch manager gave you a reference without knowing you, they are very careful now and don't easily give references to foreigners like they used to. I am getting my affirmation of marriage document from the embassy and will get a reference for opening an account at the same time.
  17. Canadian law which requires all cyclists and road users to wear protective equipment especially helmets

  20. Yes, in fact Thailand gifted cats to Catherine the Great of Russia. There are 2 breeds of Thai cat, the Siamese cat and the Mekong Bobtail cat. We have 3 bobtails as pets in Nong Khai
  21. I remember someone saying in another post a few months ago that cats weren't 'natural' to Thailand. (I responded with the fact that temple cats have been around in Thailand for thousands of years) I think this disproves that theory
  22. What I read here is that the father put this on line to shame the teacher and the school and expected the school to discipline the teacher. However he was compassionate (whether you believe he should have been or not is up to you) beause the teacher was 'old school' and close to retirement. So he did not report it to the police because the teacher might have lost his pension if convicted of assault. As usual not enough detail is given, an interview with the father would have explained all this.
  23. In the UK the NHS stated that there was no longer any need for masks in hospital/surgery waiting rooms unless a patient presented with respiratory symptoms then that individual should be offered a mask (if they could tolerate it) 4 months ago yet my own local hospital still insists everyone wears a mask regardless. However my local GP surgery doesn't require mask wearing. It seems like informed statements are made by 'powerful' people in both countries and totally ignored by their subordinates. This is a line from the letter which I have uploaded "For outpatients, UEC and primary care: • Patients with respiratory symptoms who are required to attend for emergency treatment should wear a facemask/covering, if tolerated, or offered one on arrival. • All other patients are not required to wear a facemask unless this is a personal preference."
