“He said that even if the scheme attracts only 100,000 foreign tourists a month......”.
He’s still kidding himself that 100,000 farangs a month are going to spend half of that month under house arrest and suspicion.
They are not.
Drop the quarantine requirement and tourists might return.
In the meantime 100's of people are killed on the roads every week and the government does nothing about it.

Domestic tourism is fine for now.
Thailand will be just fine. The world will not end. Life goes on.

If Thailand doesn't open up to Farang tourists by December at the latest that 10's of millions of dollars lost which they will never recover and many many jobs they will never get back

The longer Thailand leaves it to open up the harder it will be to get back tourists as they will find somewhere else to go where their tourist dollars go further

All the while they have 2 weeks quarantine in place very few tourists will return. and the junta are very unlikely to drop that so the reality is people will find somewhere else to holiday

People will not come back in any great numbers even long stay one's if they have to stay 2 weeks in a hotel at their own expense many miles from where they want to be.

I don,t think so.
Tourists will be careful with choosing an international holiday vacation. And being restricted for 2 weeks to a resort, they will just chose another destination.
And 2 weeks quarantine when they return to their home countries

This is just the thin end of the wedge. Things are going to get a lot worse yet for the average Thai

How many of the 98% have even been overseas?
A majority of Thais couldn't even tell you the capitals of Australia the US or India

Don't these people have any brain cells?
Who in there right mind is going to come and spend 2 weeks in quarantine and then possibly go back to their home countries and spend another 2 weeks in quarantine

These young people are educated and intelligent and that's what the Junta struggles with and doesn't like.

RE - Tourists will have to stay for at least 30 days, with the first 14 days in quarantine in a limited vicinity of their hotel, before they can visit other areas

And what about the 100k insurance.? No mention of that
People are not going to come here for 30 days spend 14 days in a hotel and and pay $100,000 in insurance.

Can you get a girl to come stay with you, and pay for her testing?
This would make it bearable, but if she’s not a match, it could be worse than staying alone.
All joking aside, this would be a good enticement ????
I can't see that being allowed and i don't think you are allowed to leave the hotel.
Obviously the hotel would have to supply all your food inclusive of the price.

Going to call the embassy here this monday. Hopefully they will know more about flights, also wondering if I can apply for an ED visa now, so that when I'm there I can stay longer.
Don't forget to post how you get on.

In my opinion they should make it easier for those with Thai wife's and or children to re-enter Thailand first without jumping through hoops and self isolate in the marital home or a hotel very near it.

@Aussie Col 30%... i dont think so or i find that hard to believe, if it was that high they would have opened up to tourists by now i know the PM doesn't like us but i think even he would see sense. 10% is more realistic and i cant see it being because of the health of his citizens as two issues with that...one.when has a government anywhere in the world really cared about their citizens and two. its no good if the solution is worse than the problem, no point in keeping citizens healthy and then there dying cuz of poverty.
No way is it as low as 10%.
Look at the amount of people out of work. Look at the exports dropping.
Look at the factories closing.
Look at the car sales dropping
These are facts not fiction.

No intelligent believes these figures.

I've been suggesting for years that they issue a 6 month visa with a 6 month permit to stay so people can come to Thailand on an extended holiday for the winter.
Various laws would need to be changed to do this but if they change them then lots of people would come for longer than the usual 90 day period before they need to leave the country and do a 'visa run' in order to extend their stay for the entire winter.
Think of the northern European countries where the winter starts early and ends late, they have plenty of money, 1000's of them own holiday homes here and come every year yet they're still stuck on this 90 day maximum stay nonsense unless they get retirement visas when they're not really retired and living here full time.
In Hua Hin and plenty of other places many such people come every year and I've noticed some of them have been cutting trips short to fit inside the 90 day window in recent years, they can't be bothered to 'border run' any more - it's too inconvenient, especially from a place like Hua Hin which doesn't have a nearby border.
Plus an optional 60 or 90 day stay at the end of it.

I'm with them on this regards people with diseases.
There is a old Canadian bloke called Bryan who's former girlfriend is Jezebel June and he has Parkinson's disease and still rides his motorbike around Ban Chang when he's there.

The longer they leave it the longer it will take to get them tourists back as in the meantime a majority of them former Thai tourists will holiday where their money goes further.
