The response is totally obvious except to folks who don't want to see the obvious; Thailand, like most countries, protects it's own citizens by totally prohibiting non-Thais from working in certain industries / professions, and by having a system whereby foreigners have to have a valid work permit to work. Same in most countries.

so impossible to get a work permit as a Thai can do everything if he can't... Protecting laws are good, but to block a normal society is crazy.. I am not allowed in fact to work in the garden or paint my house, as I am retired and don't have a workpermit..That is not some professions In Thailand it are ALL professions and jobs..a big difference

Nothing outdated in the law. Guy probably thought the same as you that tourists could just start working.

Foreigners in the UK, just like Thailand, have to have the appropriate visa and get permission via an NI number before working.

I don't think that tourists can work...and where did you read he is a tourist?? Besides how many backpackers are travelling around the world and can get small temporarily jobs before travveling further?? Once Thailand had these backpackers too and that was good for the economy as the money they earned was spend mostly here. The backpackers wanted to see the country, but no the army and the governments wanted them out...No wonder that tourism went down since than

  3. Of course it is being rejected.. Everything that MFP will be proposing will be rejected to prevent that the MFP has influence in laws instead of the Government parties.. The false statement that it is harmful for the economy is brought in but is just a reason to reject it. In Western countries there are 40 hrs workweeks and salary raise has a little effect on the price.. Just because if people get more money they are able to spend more and that is better for the economy. But the dinosaurs don't see that as they are afraid that their businesses will earn less... The greed and unwilling to ente rthe 21st century is enormous here

What is outdated about the law? Working without a work permit is forbidden for good reasons.

Outdated laws that nobody can do anything that a Thai can't do.. And as Thailand pretend they can do everything it is almost impossible to get a workpermit. What happens is that people start to work without a permit. So amend this law. Only if it is work that Thais don't like to do they hire Burmese and no problem for that. Thailand needs to enter the 21st century\.

And why are so many Thais working illegally in other countries?? So here foreigners have to something that their own people doesn't do in other countries

    • Contractors and subcontractors and subsubcontractors.... every one wants to make money.. a lot is wasted and with the result delays, low standard works and a lot of traffic congestion... yes indeed they can't fix in a few months anymore surely after many years they are building at the site. I think another 3 years are needed..Thai style to built with many people who want to fill pockets but don't want/can work
