Thai airports to expand for tourism boost
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Is that 80 million a year or 80 million with 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027 ? If they are aiming for 80 million a YEAR that would be a disgrace. They can barely cope at the moment with 40 million a year. EDIT - just seen they are actually aiming for 80 million tourists a year !!!!!!!! WOW. That is nuts -

Thailand offers visa-free travel to Russian visitors for 3 months
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Utterly ridiculous statement. New Zealand gave visa free travel to Thailand many years ago, and was packed full of Thai's who would not go back. For example, if the USA gave free visa travel to Thailand, you would see an exodus in Thailand on mass . -
The huge busses going down little soi's are back. Utterly ridiculous they take these routes.

It was naive insanity to panic and wave visas for Chinese and Indians. Chinese tourism has returned to normal everywhere around the world, around the same time it has started to pick up in Thailand. The fees they must have lost to waiving Chinese visas is astronomical. 2000 x 10 million is incredible. And it was needlesly waived for no reason. Before the pandemic the government wanted quality tourism over quantity primarily because locals were becoming angry. But new government comes in, and just reverses everything and just lets in a free for all. It will only get worst.

PM Explores Hosting Formula One Race in Bangkok

Thailand does host 40 million (MAINLY LOW QUALITY) tourists, but it's questionable if it has the infrustructure. -
PM Explores Hosting Formula One Race in Bangkok
DonniePeverley replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
There's a grand Prix in Singapore - going to be very hard to get them to bring a race to Thailand due to that proximity. When Malaysia couldn't financially do it anymore, it went to Singapore. Singapore are not going to give it up. Whilst there is a bidding process to get a grand prix, you have to have high class 5 star facilities, an infrustructure in place for visitors and delegations. I can't see them allowing a grand prix where the moment you set foot of a plane a taxi driver will rip you off. -
What insurance policy do i need?
DonniePeverley replied to DonniePeverley's topic in Insurance in Thailand
American. -
My daughter is studying here in Thailand, so my partner has an O visa. I am unable to get one as only one partner is allowed. I have work back in the USA, so i still travel back there - so i usually just arrive in Thailand on visa exempt and head back to America before 30 days. Now we did have travel insurance. But what insurance should i be looking at ? Especially my partner and daughter? What about myself who is only here on visa exempts ? Also some advice on pre exisiting conditions in regards to policies here?

Anutin tells Swiss man Urs Fehr he should go home
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Anutin will be the next leader of Thailand. The current leadership, are a little out of touch, and have just opened up the borders to mass tourism to EVERYONE. I see on the ground the effects of letting Russians live here long term, rents being driven up, violence drunk behaviour by low rent tourists, jobs being taken by foreigners, etc Whilst it is ackowledged tourism is needed, there is also a swell feeling the levels of tourism is far too high, and the quality attracted is of a very low class of tourist. Anutin has tapped into this growing resentment and has alot of support. -
New zealand wasn't that safe, as the threat of invasion from Japan was very real at the time. Furthermore, you were most likely to be called up into the military to fight for the UK. Best place would have been in South America - as you were far from everything, and not really involved enough to be called into a draft.

The dark secrets of Thailand’s elephant tourism industry
DonniePeverley replied to george's topic in Thailand News
I've never believed for a minute in the marketting gimmick of 'sancturys' for these elephants. It's just clever marketing, makes tourists believe they are doing some good because the word 'sanctury' is used, and they don't SEE the chains, and they aren't riding them. Reality is, no one knows what happens when the tourists go home if the elephants are treated well or not. -
Bangkok harnesses AI to tackle illegal sidewalk use
DonniePeverley replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Grab drivers are often going on pavements as 1) they are literally going up to the door of the shop, and 2) they have to rush the food to get it to the customer in a reasonable time. You literally cannot wait in traffic if you are delivering hot food. Hence they use pavements. It had stopped, but now pavement driving is in full force again. -
The current leadership, without much consultation, prefers mass cheap tourism, AT THE EXPENSE of quality tourism, albeit lower numbers. Locals (whom are voters) are starting to resent mass cheap tourism as the quality of life in Thailand is severely effected. The beauty is being spoilt. The pollution, especially on ground level with vehicle emissions is disgusting. Some of the worst i've seen in Bangkok.
