Tuition fees for middle and high schools in Region 1 will gradually rise over the next three years to VND410,000, VND530,000, and VND650,000, respectively.

Now the monthly cost of education for the two children is a whopping VND5-6 million."

How did you come to that conclusion based on the figures in the article?

1st Pfizer gave a bad stomach ( maybe some food) 2nd Pfizer,  2 weeks after the mother of all skin rashes across my chest hospitalized for 5 days with a drip antibiotic, diagnosed as an unspecified viral skin infection temperature on  admission 39.2,3rd Pfizer 2 weeks ago no problems.

It's a bit worrying that a hospital would give you an antibiotic for a viral infection. Antibiotics are used for bacterial infections.

Very sad. How about a rule (that is enforced) that limits the number of people on one motorcycle to no more than two?

That a great idea in a perfect world. Unfortunately all over SE Asia (I live in Vietnam) there are thousands upon thousands of families who do not have sufficient funds to buy another motorbike let alone a four wheeled vehicle so they have little choice but to transport their whole family on one motorbike.

Sorry, you're not going to Vietnam, not for a long time yet. I live in Saigon and haven't been allowed to leave the house for three weeks now, and the last time I was able to go to a supermarket was on 8th July.

  5. I live in HCMC. I'm not a poor worker, I'm a teacher but I haven't worked since the end of April. In May & June my landlord reduced my rent by 25% and last month he reduced it by 50%. I didn't ask for it and told him I have savings but he insisted. We're in a very strict lockdown here at the moment. He keeps delivering food to my door and has gone out of his way to help me, including registration for a vaccine. The sense of community is very strong here regardless of a person's nationality. I'm very lucky to live here.

I joined some Vietnam groups on FB. As you can see, my original post dated from November. I arrived here in October, had a quarantine and was released end of October...

Actually, since, I already got the Vietnamese Driving License in December as soon as I got the work permit and TRC.

    Thanks

Sorry, it was only after I commented that I saw how long ago you had posted.

  7. I'm surprised that you've been here since October and haven't joined any Facebook Groups. "Vietnam Legal" is a good one and "Expats in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Vietnam" You'll find this question appears a lot. The Vietnam section of this site is in its early days so there are limited Vietnam based members at the moment.

In the west we have "Perp Walks" ...here in Thailand we have "Perp Wais"....I love to see foreigners who have acted like idiots (remember the guy kicking the tiny Thai woman at the market when he thought she stole his cart ?)...then they figuratively prostrate themselves in public to avoid being kicked out...too funny and very satisfying to see.

I'm from the West. What the hell is a "Perp Walk"?

vietnam is opening. Hawaii seems to have done ok last time i checked. Just be aware that no matter where you go you will probably be stuck in quarantine for 2 weeks.

Yes, Vietnam's borders are opening but only for Vietnamese citizens and a few foreigners who have expertise that can benefit Vietnam's fight against the pandemic. They are all immediately put into 14 days quarantine upon arrival.

One might argue that social distancing is a European thing where masks are not worn ..full masked then debatable about having 'empty' seats .. guess they will also temperature check before boarding..

One might also argue that the success of Vietnam's fight against the virus has been aided by social distancing and the wearing of masks. Quarantine and effective contact tracing have been more important but the effectiveness of social distancing cannot be ignored. These are the reasons why there have only been 268 cases, with only 44 currently active and zero deaths. ???? Keep safe and wash your hands

that he always thought that school was a "second home" and that teachers were "your other parents".

This is very much part of the problem. The school is not your second home and teachers are not your other parents.

In loco parentis is a legal doctrine holding that educators assume custody of students in school because they are deprived of protection from their parents or guardians. Educators stand in loco parentis or translated, in place of the parent.

Airport check in scales are never wrong. They are regularly calibrated. Pilots need to know the total baggage weight, amongst a host of other data, in order to calculate the aircraft's take-off parameters.

If that is the case then why don't they weigh the passengers too? There's likely to be much larger differences in passenger weight than luggage weight.

  13. "capable of carrying 300 to 500 people at a time, depending on weather and sea conditions"

In a nutshell shouldn't ships the world over have a maximum capacity...No matter what the weather??? Weather and therefore sea conditions can change n an instant, you would think the deputy head of the naval brigade might know this??? but the again this is South east asia :-(

The weather conditions determine whether they can carry passengers on deck as well as within the superstructure of the ship. I hope that explains it for you.
