  3. She is also the Honorary Director of Corporate Communications for Siam Bioscience Co., Ltd. https://www.astrazeneca.com/country-sites/thailand/press-release/astrazeneca-commences-new-covid-19-vaccine-supply-chain-in-thailand.html
  4. Former pm abhisit - not a luk khrueng - was always trying to live down his 'military service' issue. abhisit's nephew chose to volunteer... Parit, 26, who went to high school in England, had three options: to draw lots, to postpone his military service, or to apply voluntarily to be a draftee. He decided to take the last option. His voluntary enrolment also means he will only be trained for six months, while those taking the option to draw lots have to do two years of service. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/30342400 Other folks have relocated to villages where the conscription levels are routinely met with volunteers so no red card/black card stress.
  5. I think Thailand does have mandatory vaccinations for infants and children. BCG, HPV, DTP, OPV, MMR, JE... How this is enforced is unknown to me. I think the country takes great pride in their 1 mm strong volunteer health-care force, and the strides they've made in health care. No clue if COVID eventually falls into the optional category, like the annual flu shots, or becomes mandatory. Probably depends on how COVID presents going forward.
  6. The first batch of donations of Pfizer from the U.S. included 1 mm doses for Malaysia. That was announced on a Friday and delivered on the following Monday. The 1.5 mm doses for thailand were announced on that same Friday, and it took thailand nearly 4 weeks to complete the "negotiations". I think when no cash is involved, and none can be skimmed, the thai bureaucracy cannot be budged. Another 7 1/2 years of this and we'll be back in olde siam.
  7. Maybe this "minister" should stay in his lane? Construction preferably. Public health? preferably no. International diplomacy, definitively not. And perhaps avoid insulting the only Bangkok-born, half-Thai U.S. Senator in history, and mucking up a 200+ year old relationship. But he's what you get in a kakistocracy. Honestly a monkey with darts and a dartboard could make better decisions.
  8. So all those lakorn, comedy and thai films which portray police are "against thai law"? And is it a thai law, or just a liberal application of the CCA? Might as well just make everything illegal.

  10. Assuming there is a punishment associated with this infraction, it would, at most, be 15 days without pay, or a reassignment to the restive South, or a promotion to the police reform committee.
  11. Not all hospitals allow a transfer, many do. I noticed a Moderna sign in the elevators at Bumrungrad last week and it does say transfer is allowed. I'm sure the rules need to be reviewed and understood. For example, the owner of two doses probably cannot sell each to two different people. We transferred two doses, done on-line quite easily, but that required that the recipient had a Thai ID card number. Assume a pink id card number would work, and a 13-digit Thai Vaccine ID number may work, although I'm not certain the hospital will administer a vaccine if you've already been vaccinated? There is a bit of a grey market for these so have a look around Thai social media, caveat emptor. At this point it may be better to wait for hospitals to peddle unclaimed or excess vaccines?

  13. Neither do they. It means whatever they decide it means. Maybe no quarantine? Maybe fully vaxxed? Maybe some pre-arrival and post-arrival testing? Maybe a CoE? Maybe insurance? I think it's safe to say that pre-Covid and post-Covid "openings" will be drastically different, with nearly everyone disappointed. There is a perception issue the regime needs to address: allowing fully vaxxed tourists to swan about while the majority of Thais remain unvaccinated, or vaccinated with a vaccine the government has acknowledged is less than ideal.
  14. CP Group, through a subsidiary, took a 15% stake in Sinovac Biotech last year. Seems like a prescient investment. CP Group has threatened anyone questioning their relationship with the Thai regime's reliance on sinovac with defamation. Nothing to see here, especially if you're encouraged not to look. China's Sinovac attracts $515m to help double COVID vaccine output CP Group affiliate to take 15% stake in unit making CoronaVac Hong Kong-listed Sino Biopharmaceutical, controlled by CP Pharmaceutical Group, is to put in $515 million, giving it a 15% stake in Sinovac Life Sciences, the unit in charge of CoronaVac production. https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Coronavirus/China-s-Sinovac-attracts-515m-to-help-double-COVID-vaccine-output
  15. Was there a Smart Safety Zone 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0? And will the RTP switch to an environmentally-friendly 'bring your own' bag policy?
  16. Well, a sharp-tick in the eye is "available". Doesn't mean it's a good thing though. Sure efficacy is more important than availability? And if sonovac is so effective why give a third shot booster? But what this message really means is that sinovac is the bulk of their vaccine load through the end of the year, and probably well into 2022. Only a month ago they were intent on phasing sinovac out as of 1 Nov 2021. Now they just need to make it seem like they're doing something so give sinovac now, as a first shot, and then hope for something better next year.
