  1. Well, until Kyrsten Sinema, the Republican-lite Senator from Arizona intervened to protect hedge fund managers amongst others, there was more in taxes being taken out. So too late to change the name. That said, there are plenty of economic analysts who think it will be anti-inflationary.
  2. somewhat different numbers from a more reliable source
  3. And why would Russia and China fear Trump? The guy who trusted Putin over his own intelligence services. Who was sympathetic to the Russian seizure of Crimea. Who had meeting with Putin unattended by his own translator. Who flouted the law by not sending weapons to Ukraine and not even responding to Ukrainian entreaties for months as the Russians supplied weapons and forces to secessionists. Who cozied up to Kim Jong Il and agreed that joint American and South Korean maneuvers were provocative. Trump never said he would militarily defend Taiwan. Biden has. Can you imagine Trump trying to unify Europe against the Russian invasion of the Ukraine? A Europe whose disunity he eagerly promoted? He actually repeatedly insulted the President of France and the Chancellor of Germany. This is your idea of how a POTUS should behave?
  4. Could you share with us the source for your claim of 95%? I'm sure you wouldn't just throw a number out there without having a source to back it up.
  5. Another person who thinks POTUS is responsible for every global adverse event.
  6. Actually, the only person repeatedly making personal comments here is you. I question what you write. I make no surmises about your personality. Although I do think it is legitimate to note that someone who claims others lack self-awareness doesn't seem to recognize what it signifies that it is they they are making it personal. comments about others.
  7. The science tells about the harm created by excess greenhouse gases. New technology is always expensive at first. But already sodium batteries and solid state batteries are on the way. Goodbye lithium. A company called Nio in China will soon be offering an electric car for US 15,000 with improved battery range thanks to a new semi-solid state battery Storage technologies that use cheap iron and zinc are now being incorporated into the power grid. Why do you think 40% is such a difficult figure to calculate? How difficult is it to calculate how much greenhouse gas will be eliminated by replacing fossil fuel plants with solar, wind, geothermal etc? We have things called computers nowadays that can process amazing amounts of data.
  8. Well, the Biden government is basing its climate initiative on the science. I suspect that you're basing your opposition on denialism.
  9. Believe it or not, not everyone in the uk has a mobile. And mobile phones are now so integrated into our lives that they have become essential. Cellphones are now essentials for the poor https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/personalfinance/2013/09/14/cellphones-for-poor-people/2805735/
  10. But you pretty much exempted Jones from creating harm in the first place: In other words the legal system decided that Jones was responsible for the damage caused to these people. And much of that damage was the threats and calumny that they had to endure from Jones' followers. But what the legal system can't do is undo the threat that Jones' lies have created.
  11. It depends on what the needs of a country are on the whole. And making it personal is the mark of someone who has no coherent argument to offer.
  12. Right. Characterizing the comments of others as not mature or not intelligent without actually engaging with points raised doesn't seem to me to be a particularly intelligent or mature approach. In fact, it seems quite petulant.
  13. As I pointed out above, what makes you think that the current level of taxation is either the optimum one or too high? With simplistic thinking like yours, the only way for taxes to go is down.
  14. You can't charge more than people are willing to pay. Corporate profits in the USA are bloated. Way above where they used to be. Thanks in large part to tax cuts under the Bush Administratin. So why would restoring corporate taxes to where they were raise prices? What makes the current level of taxation so special? Tax cuts are irrelevant when interest rates are raised to 20%. as they were under Volcker. Don't understand why you even mentioned them.
  15. When the bill started out, the tax portion of the bill was higher.
  16. You raised the issue of socialism. by calling a member a socialist. You must have thought that it was relevant or why else call him that? I'm just helping to educate you so you understand why calling someone a socialist without a shred of evidence is just empty name-calling. .And apparently you imagine you're a moderator with some sort of authority to regulate who posts what.
  17. Sure. In a case of a mass murder of school children a cop is going to fear being prosecuted for taking the shooter down? This is laughable.
  18. I have seen no indications that Chomper Higgot is a socialist. Clearly you need more reminding of what socialism is: socialism a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole. https://www.google.com/search?q=definition+of+socialism&oq=definition+of+socialism&aqs=chrome.0.69i59.5762j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Please share with us any posts where he advocated that "the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole."
  19. This is a typical supply side argument. That higher taxes will result in decreased supply. This argument has been around since taxes were raised under Clinton in 1993. The argument failed then and it will fail now. For an intelligent discussion of the effect of the bill follow this link: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2022/8/4/23292338/congress-inflation-reduction-act-reduce-biden As the participants note, Congress doesn't have much ability in the short run to lower inflation. It's the medium and long run where it will have an impact.
  20. And threw her supporters into a tizzy. Denying the facts makes life for them busy.
  21. Thanks for the correction. Here's a link leading to further info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consular_immunity
  22. I wondered about that, too. Diplomatic immunity is absolute.
