  1. Get well soon honey. What a horrible end to a celebratory holiday. My mother broke her hip a few days ago and had surgery to replace it the following day, hospital in our home town and that was a whole lot of aggro, i can't imagine how much organisation this couple has had to go through after she got injured in Thailand. There truly are some miserable and heartless posters on here.
  2. Wouldn't surprise me if methamphetamine paranoia played a part in this.
  3. As others have mentioned, the story suggests that he has only just received pictures of the letter. I do wonder why a gentleman with a wife in a foreign country didn't make contact regularly to make sure she was ok though. There is an outside chance that letters sent, if written in English/non Thai language were intercepted and opened in the hope they contained money and then discarded in the trash, leaving the sender to believe his wife had met another man and wanted nothing to do with him. It would be interesting to find out how the letter became lost for 60 years.
  4. I know it comes in for some criticism but i find it easy to navigate and has plenty of facilities. Been through of plenty of worse airports. Some of the staff can be a bit grumpy but that is understandable considering how busy they are and the peanuts they get paid.
  5. Was through there a few days ago. Very nice airport with loads of high end shopping outlets, loads of smoking areas and a modern feel. Downside, arrest and fines if you are caught vaping, in country or transiting. Vapes have to be disposed of in dedicated vape bins before going through security for your connection, they are yellow bins positioned outside smoking areas with warnings printed on them. I do not know how strictly this is enforced, but while having a smoke i did overhear a guy warning others with vapes on view that it is illegal and he personally was arrested and fined $700 after being caught, may have been a repeat offender though. No tobacco products are available in the duty free shops, and according to the law, even tobacco products purchased elsewhere need to be declared so they can be taxed. Transiting from terminal one to terminal three, i didn't come across any travelators either, it was all carpeted.
  6. I have no knowledge of how a change of custody for a child works, but i would have thought it involves a massive amount of organisation and official paperwork. I doubt the child had a passport, so Thai immigration would have needed this which would have been organised through the British embassy i presume. The UK social services and other departments would have also been involved. I guess it would be a long process to do this if all parties were in the UK, let alone with the mother in a Thai jail, child in Thailand, British mother etc.
  7. Put it back to how it was. Visas are cheap and easy to obtain if you have nothing to hide. I didn't have a problem with spending £30/35 and half hour online to obtain a 60 day SETV.
  8. I wonder how many of them would have been here if they had to go through the old visa system for certain countries, needing to prove sufficient funds for the planned stay in Thailand. The 60 day visa free for all, whilst no doubt is generating massive amounts of tourist spending, has also created an opening for non genuine tourists to misbehave. I can't remember reading the daily reports of the carnage and problems in high tourist destinations a few years ago. Maybe it is just being reported in the media more now, or i have a short memory.
  9. I was in the same situation, flights cancelled on the 3rd, 3 hours before i was going to jump on the coach to swampy. Emirates offered a rebooking or refund, tried without joy to call them for a rebooking so i purchased another flight with Royal Jordanian as Jordan hadn't had any issues with drones. Four days before the flight they changed my connection to the following day, wanting me to sit in AMM for 30 hours. I was a bit peeved by this time as already on a visa overstay so i requested a refund, bit the bullet and booked with Singapore airlines. Cost far too much but i needed to get back for work. Requested a refund from Emirates 10 days after they cancelled the flights and got £320 back from the £410 return leg. Waiting to see what Bookingdotcom get me back on my £670 flight through Jordan. I did see a few cancelled flights to/through Dubai last night whilst in Changi. Thai immigration were great about the overstay, took photos of the cancellation on the 3rd and waived the usual fees.
  10. Read this yesterday. Hard to believe 8 people sharing the table only noticed the syringe tip after almost emptying the plate, but who knows, maybe a clam was laying directly on top of it.
  11. I have given 15 stone/200 lb plus friends lifts and it is very hard to ride nicely if the pillion wants to remain upright in corners rather than leaning with the driver. When stopped it is a struggle to keep the bike from leaning over with such a high center of gravity. Can understand both points of view.
  12. It appears from later reports that the gentleman refused to pay for a planned 'massage' after discovering she was in fact a ladyboy. I agree though, some seem to be into some weird stuff.
  13. The penalties for this are just not severe enough to stop it happening. A crazy suggestion to make those involved think twice....Immediate remand for the nominee and the foreigner until all monies earned from the business by both parties are forfeited, this secures their release and then the normal process takes over.
  14. Used shoes in a tropical climate, no thanks.
  15. Sounds like she found a method of murder that went undetected initially and went to town with it for approaching a decade, if the charges are accurate of course. Defense lawyers are paid to pick holes in the prosecutions case and did their jobs here. Luckily for the prosecution, she didn't walk free after being acquitted on a technicality.
  16. After the near daily stories of ladyboys getting violent, i would be interested to know if the tourists involved were intending to engage with ladyboys or if they were intending to engage with ladies and refused to pay when they discovered additional bits. I am in no way judging peoples preferences or ladyboys, if it makes you happy, go for it. I know some ladyboys are stunning and unless directly asked, mistakes can happen.
  17. I am not medically trained but i'd have thought that broken ribs and a punctured lung would have been quite apparent and extremely painful for the patient. I've broken a rib and was in agony, there was no alcohol in my system to dull the pain though. I guess the police were acting on information provided by the first responders. Sad story.
  18. Same situation, got bumped the 3rd. There 'were' flights available on the 5th when i purchased mine via china for £390 but a 30 hour journey, i bet even the horrible routes are now a £1,000 plus. Not a nice end to peoples holidays.
  19. Hard to imagine how a page gets torn out unnoticed, but to give him the benefit of doubt, i guess a child could have got hold of his passport. Personally, don't inspect my passport before traveling. I should probably start doing so after reading this.
  20. Imagine, thinking help had finally arrived only to be handcuffed and thrown in the back of a pickup. I hope he recovers without long term damage.
  21. Hopefully, the lack of oxygen for such a long period and being revived doesn't leave her with long term damage.
  22. One of the countries i would personally never visit. Dangerous enough before the recent events there.
  23. Article mentions a fire broke out at the storage facility before the explosions occurred.
  24. I would have thought a competent crash investigator would be able to determine the position of both vehicles at the moment of impact.
  25. Reading this has got me thinking, i only ever bring whatever cash is left over from my last 90 day visit. Is the 20,000 cash just for Visa Exempt or is that also a requirement for a 60 day SETV ? It would be devastating to be refused entry over 20,000 cash when there is 100's of thousand Baht in my Bangkok Bank account.
