Report British Man Nabbed Smuggling Cannabis from Bangkok to Newcastle
WHansen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Seeds require 3 months of attention, grow equipment, electricity costs and the worry of getting your front door kicked in. Dutch weed is not cheap and takes a lot of organisation i should imagine. Thai weed is cheap, simple to put in a bag and the return is big, around £3,500 a kg i'm led to believe. -
Report British Woman Arrested at Heathrow for Cannabis Smuggling
WHansen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
When will they learn, anyone returning from Thailand is now being looked at closely. She/He looks very similar to a blatant cross dresser i used to see in a breakfast bar in Gorleston near Great Yarmouth, i wonder if it is the same person. -
Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown
WHansen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
After seeing this i got a little worried so just logged in to my account online, not via the app and successfully made my monthly 8,500 transfer to my girlfriend for my house rent. My account was opened 8 years ago with help from an agent/lawyer when i did not have an address. I had a message from BB on my account to verify my phone number etc but it only mentioned the mobile banking app so i ignored it, i had left Thailand by then anyway. The message said my account would be restricted by the 29th of April if i did not verify the details. I am hoping i do not get my account blocked at some point soon but as there is only 70,000 in my BB it is not a big problem, i would just transfer 6 months rent directly from my UK bank to my GF's BB account and sort my account out on my return in December. If my BB account did get completely shut down, in my situation of only using the ATM to withdraw 20,000 at a time, i would not loose any sleep of being charged B220/£5 to use my UK bank card for the 3 months i am in Thailand. 20,000/£450 a week, £5 a week in charges, it would only cost me approx an extra £65 for my 3 month holiday. It would be higher for the big spenders admittedly but it is peanuts in the overall scheme of things. -
Report British Tourists Nabbed with 33kg of Cannabis at Valencia Airport
WHansen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I have also thought about this as surely the exit scanners are the same as the entry scanners. I'm guessing that if it is spotted in Thailand, there is a tip off to customs at the destination airport in the hope that bigger fish can be caught if the smugglers give up names or addresses in the chain. -
Report Thai Police Launch Helmet Crackdown to Boost Road Safety
WHansen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Anyone who is familiar with risk assessments knows Personal Protective Equipment is the last form of protection and does not make the task (riding in Thailand) safe. As has been mentioned already, the dangers need to be addressed at source. Proper training, good maintenance, safe riding attitudes and proper law enforcement to name a few. -

Report Thai Police Face Scrutiny Over New Patrol Motorbike Purchase
WHansen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Good to know they won't be able to keep up with my Xmax 300 🤣 (joking) Describing an ADV 160/350 as an adventure bike is the biggest joke though, i have the 350 in the UK and at 186kg and 29bhp, an adventure bike it most certainly is not, it's a dressed up scooter which is no more capable than my Xmax. -
Economy The Thai Baht Paradox: Currency Climbs as Economy Falters
WHansen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That is my thought as well. As a typical 3 month visitor, i have only known 44 ish to the GBP, if it goes down to 42 i only lose £250 on my £5,000 transfer which i am certainly not going to lose any sleep over. Those dealing with massive amounts for retirement funds or property purchases will probably see it differently though. -

Crime Ex-Air Hostess Claims £1.5M Drug Stitch-Up in Sri Lanka
WHansen replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I find this hard to believe, both cases would be 25kg each, she must have noticed the weight. When she got ready for the flight the next morning did she wear all the same clothes she had on the night before or did she wear a new outfit, if a new outfit, she must have put her dirty clothes in one of the bags containing 23kg of weed and somehow not noticed all her original luggage had been removed. Could possibly have put everything in a carry on bag i suppose. A small lady would really struggle to lift 25kg in each hand if you ask me, and surely they were not 25kg each when she packed them for a "short trip" to Sri Lanka. Maybe it is all lost in translation and the bags were tampered with after being checked in at the airport.- 88 replies

Economy Thailand's 2025 Struggles: Growth Forecast Slashed Amid US Tariffs
WHansen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It has become fashionable to blame everything on US tariffs, a way many countries can try to hide their governments inept management, wastage and greed. Many economies, including Thailands were in dire straights long before the new tariffs were mentioned. -

Tourism Thailand Vows to End Dual Pricing Amid Growing Tourist Backlash
WHansen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I stopped visiting places that have dual pricing long ago, nothing to do with the cost which is small in the grand scheme of things but due to the policy which i disagree with. Most of us spend a small fortune when we come to Thailand and i personally don't like being taken advantage of to visit somewhere. Lets be honest, one temple is the same as the next and the national parks are full of viewpoints brimming with people livestreaming or taking selfies for their oh so important social media accounts.
