  1. Phoning done - they say it is OK for other nationalities to get Thai visas, by post, from Hull.

As has already been stated elsewhere, postal applications to be posted from, and back too, a UK address.

So you just need a reliable person in the UK to do the postal application for you, and to Fed Ex the passport back to you afterwards.

I wonder if this can be done in Perth, or elsewhere.

Phoned Perth consulate in June and they stated that they do not accept mail applications for Multi-O visas by mail. Application must be made in person. This is for a non-Australian citizen. Don't know about other visa types. Brisbane accepted mail applications.

  2. Early eighties the bus from Bangkok simply unloaded passengers curbside on Beach Rd., likely near Soi Zero. Don't recall there being anything more than a ticket office there.

  3. I am toying with the idea of buying a cheap condo for the occasional weekend / afternoon :) - have seen units for sale at Nirun condo for as little as 300K - are these horrible ? I don't mind an older building as long as it is well managed.

A friend who knows prices at Nirun says - rough and ready at 350,000 baht, semi-decent 370-400, decent at 400-450. Likely anything at 300K will be a desperate farang who needs to leave Thailand by midnight :D (And that one will get snapped up by a member of the "in-crowd".) These are 26-28 meters. Units in the tower go for ~800- to a bit over a million.

  4. Have you tried Central? The cookware section in my local Central on Chaengwattana road has about 5 different sifters.

Tried Central the other day with no luck, but today I went back armed with a printout of what I wanted and with the help of 4 staff I was able to buy one :)

    Only one model available here.

    Thanks for your response.

  6. An acquaintance was bitten in July while playing golf in Pattaya. He brought the snake to the hospital with him and they were able to identify it. I saw him 2 weeks after the event and his leg was still noticeably swollen.

  7. I came across a great link a while back. It's a blog done by a guy who lived in Patong in the late 70's and 80's. He tells stories of all the going's ons, and with pictures. He still updates it. Be sure to check out the archives in the right hand column. Warning, it's very addicting.

Thanks very much for posting the URL for the blog. Addicting indeed. Though I didn't spend any time in Patong until 1985 I know several the folks mentioned in the blog and of course heard stories about the many characters who'd left for parts unknown before I arrived.

  8. There’s a company in Bangkok named 1StopMusic 1stopmusic.com that has authorization from various foreign music publishers to collect royalties for public use of copyrighted music. Most of the major foreign labels are covered, Sony, EMI, Warner and such. However not all countries are included, but see 1Stop for details. The license fee is not exorbitant.

Also any CDs played, in a bar for example, have to be originals – pirated copies of CDs or DVDs are not acceptable. Copies of of your originals are not allowed to be played publicly and no compilation CDs are allowed even if you own the original CDs. Note that even if all is well the cops are not above slipping a “primco” copy CD into the bar’s collection.

And in the case of Internet cafes, any computer found with copyrighted music downloaded on it may be subject to copyright violations.

AFAIK Thai music copyrights is a real minefield and at least some bars I know here in Pattaya will not allow it to be played at all – that includes radios. GMM Grammy (see Wikipedia) holds rights to a lot of Thai music but not all by any means.

Of course all this is just an extortionate scam. “Fines” are in the range of 40k-100k but are negotiable down to 15 to 20,000 baht. They can and have arrested bar employees. Usually the cashier in a bar (no cashier, no business can be done) and they’ve also gone so far as to remove audio equipment and in the case on one Internet shop they hauled the computers down to the cop shop. And Thai owned businesses are not excluded from any of this.

  9. Hi All,

I have a question along this line.

I wish to apply for a non-immigrant B visa, with 1 year, multiple entries. I am in Sydney, but have heard Sydney is rather tough.

Can I send my application to another state or do I have to do it in person?

Any feedback on Melbourne, Brisbane or Canberra or is Sydney ok?

I apologise of this has been answered numerous times before, but would really appreciate the advise from you all.

Apply for a non-O in Perth.

    Reason: visiting friends.

You'll find it hard to get a 1 year non-B without a workpermit.

Mate of mine called Perth 2 weeks ago and was told he'd have to apply for a Non-O in person. Brisbane will accept out of state applications by mail.
