  1. I read on another thread on Thaivisa.com that this GH would not be very welcoming to Farang with Thai GF company,

so I'm looking for alternatives to Mut Mee.

    Maybe some other recommodations available?

Nong Khai Resort - near the train station. Excellent accommodation and the Thai GF will approve

  2. This is particularly so when you are in the so-called 'fast lane' and a bus/truck driver swerves to his right to avoid one of the afore-mentioned holes. It really is in a shocking state of disrepair.

Happened to me countless times yesterday returning from Korat, plus you have to use the left lane for overtaking the odd slow moving pick-up that doesn't want to drive on that bit.

I drove back from Korat yesterday 5th (one day after Thaddeus) and can advise that most of the holes have now been patched, Unfortunately it is very bumpy, and many drivers stick in the outside lane and refuse to budge when others want to overtake.

  3. My wife saw 10 fire balls and she has never seen them in her 30 years. She did say the drive back to Nong Khai was a royal SOB with 6 lanes of traffic on the two lane road!

So that's where the other half bottle of Irish whiskey went!

It was indeed one way traffic all the way back to Nong Khai (approx 40km). I'm glad I didn't want to come in the opposite direction!

  4. I am not convinced there ever are any fireballs. It's a SCAM

Reports in the Thai press said 12 fireballs were seen in Pon Phisai on Saturday night. I was there - plenty of attractive girls -plenty of Irish whiskey, but alas no fireballs!

  5. If you are married to a Thai there maybe a delay while they translate your documents. After that a NI number has to be issued for your wife and this may take time. If you have not tried calling them please do so, I always find them quite helpful. It took about 4 months for mine to come trough but as I was married in the Philippines no translation was required as all my original documents were in English. As previous replies have stated your claim will be backdated to the original date of the claim.

The translations take time, and obtaining the NI number (which the Pension Dept arrange) takes an eternity.

If the claim for ADI was made after eligibility for state pension, it will be back-dated for up to 3 months from the date the claim was received.

  6. Most replies are off topic and do not address the Op's original question. Typical responses!!!

He is entitled to claim ADI for his wife -whoever she is and wherever she is!

    To answer the question.

It can take a very long time. I(through my company( have helped several foreigners obtain ADI. One is still outstanding from last November. There were problems with the wife's date of birth. It is totally wrong to take so long as it is your money. However it will eventually be paid -back to the original claim date and up to 3 months before if the claim was not made at the same time you claimed pension.

If you want more info please feel free to e-mail me.

Typical response of someone selling something!! Get over yourself mate.

Not selling anything. He's done all the work! Just trying to be helpful which is more than most posters have done!

  8. Just returned from Queens Garden, Booked through www.Atsiam.com - the cheapest!!!

Restaurant on site a bit expensive, but walk up the soi where there is a 7/11 and next door is a great place for good cheap Thai food. Closes at 7.30 though. Other places close by.

Good hotel for plane spotting, and surprisingly quiet inside. Huge fish in the klong

Free shuttle to and from airport

  9. If it will help prevent baby-snatching, then I'm all for it. Many kids are taken from schools and villages and never seen again. Occasional random check-points would ensure who the kids belong to.

As for the 500bt a card, spare a thought for the downtrodden Isaan worker (or more often loafer) who has many many kids! Sell your lao kao shares quickly - they will go down rapidly!

  10. I really did try to word this topic in a way that would be obvious I'm not asking for hotel ideas. I'm asking about THE hotel that which is named "The Best".

Does anyone read entire questions? B)

It seems that you are the one not reading the posts Ubonrthai....we have all been answering ericr who posed a different question in the second post on this topic..

Whether or not it is correct to hijack someone else's post is not a reason to be sarcastic to everyone on here who has been trying their best to be helpful to all.

Personally I have never heard of the best hotel and so why would I answer to that question. And now Rdrokit informs us that it is not even in Nakhon Ratchasima city, so it is not surprising that no one here has heard of it.

    HL :D

Happylarry would seem to be less than happy!

The Best Hotel, whilst not in the city centre is close enough to it. Never stayed there although did consider it once. Always seem to be many cars parked outside in the early morning.

To erikr, I would support the advice given by Cardholder. Korat resort is very close to the zoo and waterpark and is an excellent hotel.Note that the water park comes free when you buy zoo tickets. Be careful of the flume - NOT FOR ADULTS!!!

  11. Great place for a relaxing drink and good eats at very reasonable rates.

Plenty of women every time i go there but quality is not that great.

The serving girls are often better looking - and friendlier - that the freelancers. Unfortunately they are generally unavailable.

  12. I think, meanwhile, they will just move over to the other side of the street where usually all the cars a parking.

I have been there often and you can get a lot of cheap with a good quality clothes but also technical things like a dvd player high priced. And do not forget all the crappy fakes. But they also selling very lovely frogs, a black kind that is living in the soil.

Is that lovely to look at or lovely to eat?

  13. I've said it before and I'll repeat it.

When busted by the police for something you've done - or more likely haven't done, just refuse to pay. State you have no money and INSIST on the matter being taken to court. Most times the police cannot be bothered to fill in all the paperwork, and lose all the backhanders they would otherwise be collecting.

  14. This is an uncomfortably tough subject. Sure, the antics of many of the Thai ladies along Beach Rd. are a general pain in the ass no matter who you are. And sure, it'd be a beautiful, balmy, carefree stroll along that same walkway if they weren't there. But... what can you do, really? So many Thai ladies badly need money and have but two products to sell; their beauty and charm. So, based on past experience, and what they've been told- many come to Pattaya. The huge flock of beach ladies that gathers along Beach Rd. are as sure to return there with their own regularity as the swallows to Capistrano. I see it as years and years of repetition... kinda like gathering in the best "feeding ground."

My best-guess solution: If the Pattaya government wish to continue to turn a blind eye to all things sex-related until something unlawful happens, nothing on Beach Rd. can change. Nearly all of the unlawful events which begin with encounters along the beach seem to usually occur elsewhere, like a hotel or condo. So, what about... the farangs members of the Tourist Police? Could not things in general, along Pattaya Beach Road improve at least somewhat with the presence of these concerned citizens? I mean, maybe every 100 meters or so, have a farang policeman or two, who can sit around or stroll around just to make their presence felt. They'd probably gain a lot of newfound admiration if they helped to make that infamous stretch of shoreline a lovely, tropical promenade... again.

They did have tourist police (farang ones) on the Beach Road some years ago, and all they did was sit and talk to the whores!

  15. Before dealing with the Thai whores on Beach Road, perhaps the East European hookers should be cleared away.

How do they work in their own designated bar on Walking Street? They don't have work permits, so should be deported............but obviously like everything in Thailand..........palms are greased! :annoyed:

    Who are they bothering?

That's a Thai immigration and also a mafia matter. Beyond the scope of this topic.

My views are purely social libertarian. Do as you please as long as what you are doing doesn't spoil the quality of life for other people. So I hate when people smoke in restaurants because they are fouling up other people's enjoyment. Same difference for the street whores, it is a total occupation of that prime real estate spoiling it for anyone other than hookers and johns.

    In their bar -nobody.

But they, like their African counterparts are also sometimes seen soliciting on Beach Road

And as for prime real estate, I would imagine Walking Street itself matches the Beach Road. This place in itself is a major tourist attraction. And here we have a wide assortment of disreputables . Not just hookers walking around (girls, boys and ladyboys) and not just Thai's but East Europeans, Cambodians and Africans too. Plus the drug salesmen, touts (who can be very heavy handed - more so than the Indian tailors); beggars, and the farang Police volunteers can be rather intimidating at times. Plus it's not unusual to see a tit or two poking out from behind the curtains of a go-go bar or if you're lucky even more!

Pattaya is Pattaya. Everyone knows what it's all about. If it's not for you, then there are plenty of alternatives both here in Thailand and elsewhere.

  16. The Thai government schools -especially the junior village ones- seem to do as they want.

In my village the school is frequently closed, or the kids are sent home shortly after arriving in the morning. No explanations are forthcoming. Parents as usual adopt the "mai bpen rai" attitude.

In the local town, there is a semi private school -very low fees - where some 90% of the pupils are the children of government workers (Doctors, nurses, school teachers etc) Apparently government workers receive a small annual allowance to send their kids to private schools. If Teachers at government schools sent their kids to a private school, that tells you a lot!

  17. I think Farang Connection,Surin and Ryans Resort, Prasat both do tours. Its against forum rules to post links (I think)

Maybe you can google them and contact direct.

It will take you the best part of a day to get from Surin to Angkhor Wat! A day trip is not really on. Most people recommend a couple of days minimum to stay in Siem Reap and tour the Wat
