  1. I did set up a Paypal account through Kasikorn, first you need to open a savings account, your name, with debit card, Internet Banking is available right away and is well set out, then apply through internet banking for Kweb shopping card which is a cyber credit card no physical card, you can set the limit from 0 up to I think 100,000Bt, then link this to your Paypal account and once registered it works like a dream for me anyhow.KTB are in the dark ages.

    Best of luck BW

I don't have Paypal, but use KBank's Web Card a lot. You do not get a card, just the number, expiry date and CCV number. When you order something on-line, they send you an email, giving you a chance to challenge if, in case someone tries to double bill, then in 3 days they pay the money.

Their internet banking seems good for what I need.

  2. We hear fairly regularly that immigration intends to enforce the long existing law on foreigner visitor registration in hotels etc.

I think it would be a deterrent for some undesirables - assuming their passport is genuine and backhanders do not get passed around to not register the visitor.

Equally, let's hope that immigration do not also accept a brown envelope to bypass any of the targeted establishments.

However, how many hotels, etc. are there in Phuket, and does the immigration department have enough staff to check every place?

    Questions, questions, questions.

In Pattaya, they can hardly cope with the sea of Walk-in Clients. Here we queue in the car-park and listen for the loudspeaker to call our number.

My last 90 Day took 90 minutes to do as the queue was so long - and it was mid-week!.

  3. Spent only 10 mins in prison, clearly didn't like the decorcoffee1.gif

....I didn't know there was an 'opt out' clause if you don't like 'the arrangement'....

....."I'm not feeling well. May I leave now?"......

10 minutes or 10 years, he has served time. Now his Family can request a "Royal Pardon". That is the Thai legal system.

That is the reason that they cannot request a Royal Pardon for Thaksin, as he has not done the 10 minutes.

  4. so , dinner and right to sleep ? no sex ? a heart attack including Viagra during sex could be possible also. But I admit , it can be shocking to wake up near a corpse. RIP poor fellow.

I remember a girl once told me a customer had died in his sleep while she was with him. Ever since then, she only went Short Time. Her logic was if LT, he would want to have "Another go or three" and could end up dead as well.

The girls have feeling too. She will remember this a long time, I suspect.

  5. is the driver not responsable for his his car is maintianed and safe to drive? is there no periodic control of the cars here, in europe the car and trucks undergo periodic controls, and will be removed from the roads if they not pass. but anyway , the driver of a car is responsable for the car is safe to drive, and if a wheel falls off, due to some loose wheel nuts or things like that, the driver must be hold responsable.

Yes cars undergo a check every year... This check is a joke, my last one took just under 4 mins.

However, can the driver really be held responsible for every mechanical failure !!

Pretty sure you don't check all your wheel nuts every day before you drive a car, I know I don't...

He probably confessed because he knew his sentenced (whatever that may be) would be halved.

Also fled the accident scene as that is considered the thing to do, rather than face the consequences immediately.

    Very sad accident.

Once I was driving in the UK, and it sounded like someting was wrong, as there was a thumping noise and the car did not handle corectly.

I stopped and went round the car checking the wheel nuts, and sure enough, one had come loose.

So I used the when brace and tighten it and all was fine.

I think the real problem is that most Thai drivers have no idea and not trained to tell if something is wrong with their car when driving.

My Thai MOT (Annual test) also took 4 minutes, but did include a rolling road brake test.

But I was confident that it would pass as I always take my car for checks and any problem to the local Mitsubishi main agent, as labour charges are so cheap here, so I use them and not some jobbing mechanic on the street corner.

  6. Remember ti update your unit as soon as they come out. Shows changes to roads and more information. Normal price on line is 450 Baht.

I signed up for lifetime updates for 1,500 Baht and have had 2 updates already

My unit is a 205 (or is it a 215 - I forget), but can only store a Thai or English map, at one time. I believe more high-end units let you hot-swap between TH/EN. Useful if you want a Thai to drive.

My unit can still switch between languages EN/TH.

  7. Excuse my ignorance. but i am trying to keep track of all the uniforms in this country..

Is this guy from the AirBourne division of the fire brigade ?

( tounge planted firmly in cheek)

Remember all males have to be ready for "National Service" as we called in in the UK. There is a draw and if your number is drawn, you go in.

Many people wear their insignia when moving to another uniformed job. (Have you seen School Teachers? - Half look like spaghetti on their chest)

But maybe he is a member of the Fire Dept's "Flying squad" (Another English slang for quick response unit)

  8. A bit off topic, but would a car cam be of any use in cases like this (I'm planning to buy one) ?

That is why most people buy them. It would help your case, but remember the Thai thought that the biggest one is the usually pays the bill - Big car versus small bike...

I Googled the name and there is a well known drummer from Ontario, Canada with only one letter different and looks middle aged.

  9. What speed was he doing. Looking at the wreckage, it must be over 100 kph, or else the construction of the vehicle was so flimsy that it disintegrated.

Looking at pictures of crashed Pick-ups, same as the use as taxis in Pattaya, the vehicle retains its basic shape after an impact, even if the the engine bay is compressed. This shows a shattered mess.

    RIP

  10. I bought my pre-paid SIM in 2006 from a 7/11 store in Bangkok - I was asked to show my passport details and my passport number was recorded; so as far as I know, I'm registered.

One benefit is if you lose your phone, you can get the same number back.

I registered both my SIMs, and the system works - got mine reissued when I lost it or was pick-pocketed (Maybe?).

How and where do you register your SIM?

I live in Pattaya, and at the time I went to the local service Office. Now there are loads. In Pattaya - DTAC have one in Big C Xtra, and several other shopping centres. AIS are covered by Telewhiz shops - Big C xtra, Tukcom and several other places.

I imagine 7-11 will key your ID / Passport Ni onto their tile. They do all other utilities, so I think this will be no problem.
