Trump surrenders for historic fourth arrest
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As President, I sure hope not. I voted against him twice. Can't register truthfully again. As far as prison goes, would be no tears shedded from me. -

Well OK but if you read many of the quotes on here, you certainly would not consider that, even given all the evidence, procedural issues are still part of the legal process. -

So seeing justice is done means he is convicted. OK. The damage the guy could do in the US and world even on a daily basis is more than I care to contemplate. -

I am just following the cases as best I can also on the legal docket. And I'll say it again: The outcome of any of these criminal trials to me pales against the notion of whether Trump will again be elected President in 2024 -

There are likely other former federal court judges who think otherwise on the timing. At least one of Trump's Georgia co-defendants wants the trial sooner rather than later. But some on here want to talk about Trump's prison attire. I remember on the eve of the 2016 election one of the conversation topics was whether the newly elected President should be addressed as Madame President. As to whether Trump will 'get away with it' I really don't care so long as he is not elected President in 2024. -

And a former federal court judge and attorney general said it is unlikely in his opinion that any of these trials will commence before the 2024 election. -

There are 4 criminal indictments. The rest is just noise. Well this should have been to your other post but so what. This guy -- obviously for other reasons -- was underestimated in 2016 and I don't want to see that happen again. -

With all the criminal indictments, in the USoA at least one is presumed innocent until proven by a jury otherwise. -

I am not saying that he shouldn't be charged in the 4 criminal trials or that I think he will get off in any of them, just that there is a bit too much slam -dunkism on these topics for my taste. -

And another likely older legal maxim: Ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat. The burden of the proof lies upon him who affirms, not he who denies. -
Giuliani to surrender to authorities in Georgia election probe

Judge schedules Trump codefendant Ken Chesebro for October trial in racketeering case The expedited trial date does not apply — at least for now — to Donald Trump or any other defendants in the Georgia case. A Georgia state judge has scheduled an Oct. 23 racketeering trial for Kenneth Chesebro, one of 18 codefendants charged by local prosecutors alongside Donald Trump in a plot to subvert the 2020 election. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis asked the judge, Scott McAfee, Thursday to schedule the trial for all 19 defendants on that date, an unexpectedly rapid timeline that Willis proposed in response to Chesebro’s formal demand for a speedy trial. But McAfee indicated that “at this time” he would only expedite the trial date for Chesebro. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/08/24/fulton-county-prosecutors-ask-judge-to-set-oct-23-trial-on-trump-racketeering-charges-00112816 -

Not to disagree with the above but the association of Trump and Giuliani goes back a long ways: Kiss and tell: A brief history of Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump The history of President Donald Trump and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's long-running friendship Trump supports Giuliani for mayor In 1989, Giuliani was the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and an aspiring mayoral candidate and Trump was a real estate mogul who placed full-page ads in New York newspapers calling for the death penalty for the Central Park Five, a group of black and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were accused, convicted and imprisoned for a rape it later turned out they didn’t commit. That year, Trump co-chaired Giuliani’s first campaign fundraiser. He also donated $3,000 to Giuliani’s campaign. https://www.cityandstateny.com/personality/2018/05/kiss-and-tell-a-brief-history-of-rudy-giuliani-and-donald-trump/178512/ -

Final moments before Pride flag killing emerge, along with disturbing portrait of gunman Aug. 22, 2023 Updated 4:28 PM PT According to an acquaintance of Carleton who watched closed-circuit video of the shooting, Ikeguchi seemed to pause in the moment before he shot Carleton, as if considering what he was about to do. “He then almost flinched as if thinking twice but then went for it, grabbed the gun and then aimed it and shot Lauri,” said the acquaintance, who requested anonymity because the video did not belong to him. “That caused her to fall back onto the floor, and then the door swung closed, and then he shot one shot through that door and then took off. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-08-22/who-was-travis-ikeguchi-shooter-in-lake-arrowhead-pride-flag-killing https://archive.is/amr74#selection-1263.1-1263.89

Suicide by cop Suicide by cop, also known as suicide by police or law-enforcement-assisted suicide, is a suicide method in which a suicidal individual deliberately behaves in a threatening manner, with intent to provoke a lethal response from a public safety or law enforcement officer to end their own life. There are two broad categories of "suicide by cop". ... The second version involves people who are already contemplating suicide and who decide to provoke law enforcement into killing them. These individuals may commit a crime with the specific intention of provoking a law enforcement response. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_by_cop

Who was Travis Ikeguchi? Shooter in pride flag killing posted far-right, anti-LGBTQ content AUG. 22, 2023 2:16 PM PT Court documents and a few social media posts paint a narrow picture of Ikeguchi’s troubled life, a young man struggling to make ends meet and support his mother while falling further into an abyss of social media conspiracy theories and hate-fueled rhetoric online. “I know it’s controversial for me to mention the option to kill a police officer, but these police officers are not the servants for the people they are the servants for the laws,” a post in 2021 reads. The posts belie the fact that Ikeguchi was the son of a Florida Highway Patrol state trooper and firearms instructor who had reached the level of “master trooper,” according to court filings. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-08-22/who-was-travis-ikeguchi-shooter-in-lake-arrowhead-pride-flag-killing https://archive.is/bIIpK#selection-1263.1-1263.92

Trump proposing April 2026 trial in federal Jan. 6 indictment
jerrymahoney replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As noted on different topic, Trump's lawyers said: "In a 16-page filing, attorney Gregory Singer argued for the defense team that putting Trump on trial as requested by prosecutors on Jan. 2, 2024, ... would mark a “rush to trial” that would violate his constitutional rights and be “flatly impossible” given the enormity of the government’s evidence." They raise a constitutional issue which would be for an appeal of any ruling so it seems they do not expect the sitting Judge to agree to their current motion. https://archive.is/2djnJ#selection-505.0-513.150 -
