Cataract surgery prices in Bangkok and Chonburi
Lorry replied to Imua's topic in Health and Medicine
This list is slightly outdated. Just 3 points: PHITSANULOK wing 46 is not where you want to go for cataract surgery There is a Bangkok Hospital now in town UDON Panyavej has been bought by Bangkok Hospital 10 years ago, it's now Bangkok Hospital Udon. This and Aek Udon are generally the best places to go for pretty much everything in Udon. KHON KAEN Ratchapruek and Bangkok Hospital do most of the farang business these days, but i don't know about cataract surgery -

If they are modelled after a French mutuelle (or maybe a German VVaG, but they mention the French system in their brochure) there may be no underwriter/no insurance company. Actually, this is what they are saying in their brochure: no Bentleys, no business trips, no stock dividends. Socialism with Thai characteristics ????

This whole discussion of WrLife in Anglo-Saxon terms misses the whole point of WrLife. Just read (and understand) their brochure. They come from French thinking. They don't want to be a stock-market company. They want to be mutualiste. They don't compare themselves to AIG, but to CFE (CFE has been explained on TVF before). Having said that, before signing up I would want to know a lot more than what their website says.

In my experience, it depends a bit on the specialty. Neurosurgeons most definitely do it the way Sheryl said. (Neurologists tend to follow the radiologist.) GI doctors, and especially abdominal surgeons, do their own reading, too. Urologists follow the radiologist (and the discussion with the radiologist mentioned by Anti was actually a discussion between me and the radiologist)

Commerce Ministry Rejects Instant Noodle Price Rise
Lorry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That's a 30% increase but obviously TV members don't see a problem. Wait until beer increases by 30% and see the reactions here. -
Information about new Covid-19 cases per province
Lorry replied to Eaglekott's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Thank you No need for 4-10, once in several days is good enough -
They had a counter on the ground floor yesterday, selling Moderna for 750. I didn't need it, I was there for other reasons.

They are very reluctant to do this. They believe in reincarnation. -

Any updates available? Would be grateful -
You may be right about the UK. (The medical system there has a terrible reputaion) I was thinking of countries with a good health system: Scandinavia, Switzerland, France...

Sheryl explained it very well: Negative results rule nothing out, and positive results can have so many possible causes (most of them benign) as to be useless - and apt to lead to unnecessary (and possibly harmful) additional tests. If a chest x-ray would be a good way to screen people for lung cancer ( i.e. the benefits are bigger than the disadvantages) wouldn't you think that all those countries with socialized medicine would do this? But they don't - because it would bring more harm than good. If you screen millions of perfectly healthy people with chest x-rays you expose them to unnecessary radiation and you may end up with more cases of cancer than without the screening. More important, the follow up of suspicious results includes invasive procedures that do harm (perfectly healthy) people. So it is better not to screen.

Question about Internet Simcard 1000 baht per year
Lorry replied to villageidiotY2K's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
It is still TOT even if they are NT now. NT now runs 2 legacy mobile networks: TOT3G and my (formerly my by CAT), even TOT and CAT have merged into NT. -
Ultrasound is useless. Chest x-ray only if you hail from a TB infested place, like sub-saharan Africa. Standard blood test may be useful (blood sugar, creatinin, CBC...) but you are really too young for this. Urin analysis is useless.

90 days report online - a sad experience
Lorry replied to Lorry's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That's not possible for me, their drop-down menus are incompatible with what i wrote in the printed form. Everytime I give immigration my address they adapt (mangle) it so it fits into their forms, and every IO does it differently. -
90 days report online - a sad experience
Lorry replied to Lorry's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I did ask the IO. She said: First field: building name (There are 4 ways to write my building name) 2nd field: room number and street address (2 ways) 3rd field: she wasn't very specific about it So it's narrowed down to only 8 permutations. -
Aug 5: read up how it works, prepare documents Try to register - impossible. Immigration website is an endless loop, cannot register. Find ubonjoes link in AN to registration. Register. Apply for report. Rejected after 3 hours. No reason given. 1178 says, because it's the first time i report. Make appointment at CW. One or two days ater i read, that it might work the first time. But I should be careful how to write my address. There are 20 ways to write my address... Tried again. Wait. Aug 10: rejected 1178 says, because "the system is under construction, try tomorrow". 2 friends of mine were rejected on the same afternoon Aug 11: go to CW. Was sent to counter A, waited. Sent away, should go to counter B, because I have an appointment. At counter B, after finally doing the report, I was told the reason for rejections was that it was the first time. And I was instructed how to insert my address when i try to do it online - they use a 21st way to write my address, nobody has ever written my address like this, i hope it will work.

Correct. And even the usefulness of the PSA test for screening purposes is contested.

Yes. Have you? I don't have to resort to Google and Wikipedia, i go and look myself. I get the impression that you haven't been there for many years, or at least haven't traveled around Isaan for many years. BTW your map omits remittances. From Isaan workers in Rayong or Korea, from farang husbands, from bar girls in Pattaya. Their income is counted at the place where it's generated, but it's actually spent in Isaan. Not in my experience, but I believe you. 100km from the highway, 20km from 7/11: daughter has Russian husband, neighbour's daughter married in Finland, uncle lives in Germany, another uncle lives in Canada. Funeral for grandma 300,000 (10 years ago), Father has built his house with his own hands, hardly any outside help, over a lifetime. That's the past. A third uncle had a house built for 5m and drives a Camry. That's the present. Things have changed a lot in many places, even if not in all places. And yes, it helps a lot to be near a highway or railway.

The land is collateral. Almost no income required. I asked you before not to insult me. What's peaceful about poverty? You are romanticizing poverty. Seems you cannot accept that Isaan mostly isn't poor anymore.
-
Remember the one-legged German guy in his 50s hanging out in front of the hischools of Chaiyaphum? He offered the girls what their parents made in a month, at the time about 4000. He was quite successful until he picked up a policeman's daughter. If you wanna do this today in front of KKU, you probably should offer 30,000. And I guess you might be successful. BTW The German guy was deported.
-
No. I know a girl who just financed the open-heart surgery for her American boyfriend. The American couldn't pay it.
-
To get money, be it p4p or be it a rich husband. But nowadays farang - especially those living in Isaan - don't always have so much more money than Thais, and the girls know this.
-
They are landless. These are really poor. I doubt they are happy. Not many people are poor by choice (monks are).
-
Always prepaid, rarely postpaid. Every household has access to a car, for years already (noticed that public transport disappeared?). You get seed money from friends and family and from your employer (like if you live at the place of work). Many, many people have relatives abroad, married to a farang or working in Korea. Some do have a microwave, but their mother's like to cook on fire. By mortgaging. And the banks (mostly the agricultural bank) is pressing people to take out loans. We are talking 6 or 7-figure sums. This was Thaksin's economic policy (advised by Morgan-Stanley, copying countries like eg Peru). The junta continued it. I don't say it's a good policy. I am certainly more educated than you are. But our experiences obviously differ widely. That's not a reason to insult me.
