  1. That was my experience 20 years ago. Now its brick walls, corrugated iron roofs that don't leak, toilet in the house, never seen a kid with scabies, all kinds of work but usually no field work. That's done by machines. 20 years ago, the farmers of Buriram walked to their fields, many had a bicycle. Later they switched to motorcycles. Now they rent a tractor (noticed the buffaloes disappeared?) I don't know every single village in Isaan. The places I know are mostly in the 2 (statistically) poorest provinces, as I said. I don't doubt your experience. But it's not the norm anymore.
  2. It remains to be sen if this includes Paxlovid, the only useful antiviral. "Antivirals" in Thai parlance usually means molnuparivir (a disappointing drug) or faviparivir (nice placebo)
  3. For more than 10 years now, there have been job opportunities in the cities of Isaan. Development is visible everywhere. Buriram city is a good example. I knew it as a sleepy rural backwater 20 years ago - now it's a globalized metropolis by comparison.
  4. You describe Isaan of 20 years ago, before Thaksin and the boom in Isaan. Even in the poorest provinces of Isaan (the one you live in and the neighboring province) most households have had access to a car for years now. Most families have a washing machine. Every single person under 40 has a smartphone. People who don't own land are poor, yes. Half of people in Isaan do own land. They have never been as poor as the slum dwellers of Bangkok. And with rising land prices, they are often quite well off now.
  5. I don't think this is "like normal people". They just bought a girl for a much higher price than Spark wants to pay. Many met their wife in Pattaya, anyway.
  6. That's what their hotline 1178 told me after i was rejected. The email gave no reason for rejection. That explains a lot. Immigration got my address wrong before. There are many ways to write it. I don't have a TM30. I have a receipt of notification like the one at the bottom of TM47. (I got it when i did my first yearly extension) The IO wrote my address on that paper, i will try to use what she wrote for my 90days report . Thx
  7. Because on the 12th i have to be nearby anyway, it would have been convenient to to the report when i am there.
  8. Oh 1178 says CW is open on the 11th, i hope it's true
  9. No, it's the first report. I tried online anyway but was rejected.
  10. Any experience if they might honor an appointment one day before the holiday, at 2pm? Just for 90 day report (I once had an appointment a day before holidays at 3pm, for visa extension. I was sent home. )
  11. Immigration's online appointment system would give me an appointment on friday, Aug 12. But I guess they are closed, it's a holiday?
  12. I tried to do my first report after applying for my first extension online. Got rejected. 1178 says, first report cannot be online.
  13. This happened to me at CW in May, when I went their to get a first extension of stay of 1 year. They stamped "must show up for next 90days report in .... August" (90 days after getting the extension) even I entered Thailand in April. They attached this to my pp. They also gave me a CoR which they only do if you did a 90days report. They seem to consider my showing up for extension as a 90days report, even it was only 45 days after entry.
  14. Taxi 60B (don't kill me if it was 80), mid May
  15. Look for a European insurance policy designed for incoming visitors. The kind that Thais have to show the embassy to get a visa. These policies often don't ask if you have preexisting conditions. That doesn't mean, preexisting conditions are covered. They are not covered. But as long as there is no claim nobody asks. These policies often cover acute, unexpected exacerbation of a preexisting condition, like Sheryl said. Look for the biggest insurers in the country you want to go, they probably have some "incoming policy" on offer. For instance, Thais who travel to Germany often chose the "incoming police" from ADAC, Germany's biggest travel insurance.
  16. Masks - the worst thing that happened to mankind in 50 years
  17. That's the usual way here Yes No. You need to see their doctor first, he will prescribe physical therapy. You then have make an appointment with the therapist. Maybe a week in advance.
  18. I was satisfied with Bumrungrad (about 2000/session) and even more with St Louis Hospital (950/session) I also tried BNH, Sukhumvit Hospital and Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital but didn't go there anymore as the two hospitals mentioned above helped me a lot more.
  19. They are more expensive than others, but they promise PCR multiplex results within 1 day. How are they for treatment? How are their doctors? Does it make a difference whether one goes to their Nana branch or to the main branch Silom?
  20. Paracetamol reduces pain and fever. It does not reduce inflammation. To reduce inflammation also, you need NSAID like ibuprofen.
  21. I have never been rejected. But I have been sent home several times, to come back another day. Of course I meet all the published requirements. But IOs can make up requirements on the spot. There are threads here about CoR that give good examples. I got CoR twice in the last couple of years, the first time it was 3 trips to immigration (each time a whole day), the second time 2 trips.
  22. No monthly immigration formalities, but spending on average 2 days per month for immigration if I honestly add up all the time I spend for them. This includes things like asking my landlord for a signed copy of his ID card, traveling 20 miles to a post office to post 90 days notice, getting multiple papers from Bangkok Bank for immigration (neither Bangkok Bank nor the IO had the slightest ideas which papers were needed so i just got everything the bank offered), printing emails confirming appointments, small things that add up because there is no end. And, of course, reading up on the requirements du jour.
  23. These new vaccines are designed for BA.1, the variant of January/ February. We are at BA.4 and BA.5 now. They are not designed for this. Nobody knows what variant will be the fall wave.
  24. No, they are not. Unfortunately. ICUs in Europe are mostly not overcrowded, but certainly not empty
  25. There is more than one city in Isan
