  1. Personal Allowance for spouse: The simple tax guides writes "supporting a Thai wife". I guess that's how Somchai the tax inspector sees it. The RC does not say, it has to be a Thai wife. It also doesn't say, you get this allowance only if you support her. And from Sec 47 (3) of the RC follows, that the wife doesn't even have to be a resident of Thailand. Sherrings says "dependent spouse", but if you continue reading it's clear that the spouse doesn't have to be in Thailand. https://sherrings.com/personal-tax-deductions-allowances-thailand.html Any experiences about this?
  2. If I have to install the banking app on a new device when abroad, the Thai SIM card registered with the app has to be in the new device. Kbank and AIS both say, it would work if I use international data roaming with the Thai SIM card (cheapest package from AIS for data roaming is 600B). Has anybody actually done this? Does it really work?
  3. Sheryl is right. Chula MD is a good and cheap place to ask. Saw Palmetto is available here (I think even the brand Permixon is available), in the usual dose of 160mg. But not cheap. Cheaper online: Lazada, shopee, iherb.
  4. First of all, ask at a real pharmacy, not at Boots. Even better, ask at a cheap pharmacy. PS 15 pharmacy in Sukhumvit soi 15, for example. Nowadays, there are many cheap pharmacies, where are you located? Second, what medicine are you talking about? You are not supposed to send any medicine here by mail, but if it's a limited amount of some innocuous stuff (no opioids, for example), sent by mail, not courier, maybe nobody cares. It's always better and more legal if someone traveling here brings it with him. Third, some (few) European travel insurances cover this situation and will get your stuff here for you.
  5. Yes, they do. But its very difficult to sound sarcastic in a language other than your mother tongue, as can be seen daily on this forum. And in another culture, it's even more difficult. These weird aliens running around Sukhumvit and similar places say Kobkhunkap ("I am very grateful for what you did for me") all day long, when there is no reason for gratitude at all: they say it when nong does her job or when they get 17 baht change at 7/11. So this guy, he said it when I cut in line in front of him... strange ...but they are really friendly, aren't they?
  6. Thx, correct website, better than 3M website. But the links to the products are "under maintenance". I really love all things online
  7. I have seen these, in shopee and Lazada. I once bought a tech product (bluetooth keyboard and mouse) from an "authorized dealer" and got cheated. I want to by from 3M official store, and they don't have it PS after 10 trials, shopee found the official store of 3M, and they do have it. They even have the (supposedly better) version 9809 (purple, not red). And after ordering, they told me Lotus has it for a lot less, so I am going to have a look.

  9. Many people write, one should gift money to spouse or other relatives, and then live off this money. This is illegal, because its not a gift if it's actually used by the "gifter". It's also very stupid to publish such criminal plans on AN for the TRD to read. The most stupid would be transferring the "gifted" money, once it is in Thailand, to one's own Thai bank account. A real gift means, the receiver uses the money for whatever he wants. He doesn't transfer it back. Real gifts: the receiver buys land/a car in his own name/gold/pays uni.
  10. Neither 3M official store in shopee or Lazada nor the 3M website list Filtrete aircon filter. You can find many knock-offs in shopee/Lazada, and 3M website shows some aircon filter which doesn't carry the name Filtrete. Is there a substitute?
  11. I have never heard a Thai friend use the word "winter" for any season in Thailand. Obviously, I don't speak English with Thai friends, why should I? Those of my Thai friends who can speak English use "cold season" which is the literal translation of formal "ฤดูหนาว - Ruedu Nao" or spoken " หน้าหนาว - nâ: nă:w". (sorry for the diacritic, my keyboard doesn't have the correct one) Neither have I ever heard any foreign friend of mine use the word "winter" in their resp. language for any season in Thailand (I don't speak English with them, either, but the word "winter" does exist in their languages). I have seen this usage in print only, in local English-language media. BTW you didn't tell us on which planet you live. I live on the third planet of the closest star next to HIP 70890. You?
  12. Growing my own stuff is a bit difficult here in central Bangkok. Thanks for the answers, both of you, but you only confirm my problem. Yes, I avoid fruit and vegetables from temperate climates, like apples or grapes, because it will be from China. But you cannot live from durian alone...
  13. Hami is from China. They are good, but you get the toxins for free
  14. With all the publicity, grapes are sold out. BigC sells stuff from the King's project, I did believe them, and it probably is impossible to get them independently tested. They also sell stuff from npfood.com, a very secretive company from Ladkrabang, all-English. Seems not trustworthy to me. Any trusted way to get organic food?
  15. I had to watch a tiktok today, a cat dressed up as Krahang, with rice-basket wings. O tempora, o mores
  16. That's the one in Wat Mahabut, mentioned in the OP. It is on Khlong Phrakhanong, most recent arrivals (Thais or foreigners) nowadays call the area Onnut (it's not near BTS Phrakhanong). The shrine of "Mae Nak Phrakhanong" is even on Google maps.
  17. You farang, you not understand. Thai can do.
  18. That's a good one. But isn't that more a custom of Israelis, Palestinians, and Americans?
  19. If a local tax office says, you don't need a TIN, they are right, of course.. As of Oct 31, 2024, you don't need one. Bureaucrats are not in the business of divining the future. They follow the regulations they have right now. Example: when some important social security rules in my home country changed, it was all over the news, and everybody who would read a newspaper knew the starting date. I called SS - they had heard things would change, they weren't sure about the starting date (bureaucrats don't read newspapers, they read official bulletins), and told everybody to wait until they would receive the new regulations. It might take up to 6 months after the starting date, but they would then apply them retroactively. (It took 9 months) BTW right know, the tax situation there is like here - everybody knows rules have changed, everybody would like to know the exact new rules, tax office is in no hurry. But once they have made up their mind, they expect payment within 2 weeks. Having said all this, many people DID easily get a TIN.
  20. Nowadays, it's called ฤดูฝุ่น Ruedu fun - smog season. Characterized by burning fields and burning eyes, fire engines spraying Silom Rd and politicians promising improvements.
  21. In a moving object time passes slower according to Einstein's theory of relativity, that's why the plane could fly 45 minutes with only 30 minutes of fuel.
  22. Many private hospitals work for SS, too. You will get a different (not necessarily worse) treatment from a privately insured patient.
  23. No, some (few) other posters have pointed this out, too. This may change in 2025. But that's really just guessing. Nobody knows.
  24. Shocking to read how, in 2024, "educated" farang mostly look for excuses to justify drunk driving. Are these the same posters that regularly call Thais bad drivers? And these posters still have the chutzpah to say, even when drunk they drive more safely than a Thai.
  25. For years I have been seeing with dismay, supermarkets here full with agricultural products from temperate climates - apples, grapes, cabbages, peas. It's rarely stated where these things come from - of course, they all come from China. I never put something from China in my mouth. China is the country where they sold Melamin as baby formula, and where they use gutter oil, the examples are endless. Chinese who can afford it do like I do. They only use imported food, especially for their babies.
