    Hello,

I heard some stories about people who had a tourist status (e.g. visa exempt) and are on a “covid extention” since 2020 and got rejected at the immigration even though the official statement is that they can apply for another 60 Days until March 25th. They had no other visa in between, they are just “longstayers”. E.g. in Koh Phangan they say, that only new tourists can get the 60 days. Others have to leave the country in 7 days.

When we went for our latest “covid extention” to the immigration in Chiang Mai, one officer told us we cannot apply for another one. We then asked another officer and he told us we have tourist status, so it is possible, BUT he gave us the advice to come a few days earlier before expiring date and ask again, because it can change.

I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and is a “longstayer” too?

Can I ask when your current permit of stay end?

I think it will be harder for everyone. Many countries open now for travelers and dont request quaranene anymore. Some don even request a covidest if ur vaccinated.

Well my destination country is still requesting mandatory quarantine & pre-departure covid test. Recently they have started asking for 48 hours pre departure test instead of 72 hours.

I know that there are many countries opening up and getting over with this pandemic.  But there are countries still not decided with which way to go.  I don't even think Thailand has made up its mind yet neither.

Instead of rushing to kick people out, I think they should take it a little slower.   I read that in most countries current Covid wave will hit the next high sometime in February or March.  And sometime in April or May,  life will start to get back to normal.  Or maybe life must get back to normal.

Regardless of severity of the pandemic, people like me are under the grace of government policy making.

I read in the thaiger today that it will be hard to get CE from now on.You need a wery legimit reason for get 30 days CE.IMM is tigthening the grip now.I understand them because i see some people arriving on TR visa..and after change to ED,and then volunteer for just staying in thailand. The good times is over i think.

Well, what about for someone who entered the country with tourist visa and didn't change visa type and continued getting covid extension??? Will things be different?

No: open the document that I provided a link to. I am talking about all the standard reasons you can  use to justify your application for an extension of stay in Thailand, according to the update by Immigration in 2014. Technically, there have been some minor adjustments since, mainly affecting retirement extensions, but the document I linked lists all the necessities (reasons) you can cite for an extension of temporary stay in Thailand, together with the conditions that must be satisfied. . The Covid extensions are a temporary special extension type, offered by Immigration for a limited period because of exceptional conditions (Covid-19 epidemic) preventing people from leaving Thailand as usual at the end of their stay.

    Ah... I'm a bit confused....and worried.....

I have until late March to leave.  But according to the recent announcement I can apply for another extension.  So I can reapply for another one right? (entered via Tourist Visa)...

And when I apply for another extension in late March, I just need to fulfill some of the listings on affidavits of covid extension right?

What you are saying is for the people who want to stay in Thailand after the government stop issuing the covid extension right?

Or will I need to fulfill 'standard' reasons for my covid extension application in late march?...

To anyone who has read the document that describes valid reasons for extensions to your permission to stay as "in case of necessity", the wording is pretty clear. For convenience, there is a link to that document in a pinned thread on this forum. See Immigration Order 327/2557 (2014)

To simplify: after your permission to stay as extended due to Covid ends, you will either need to leave or find another valid reason for an extension of stay.

So you are talking about the list of reason for extension on the "affidavit and other papers" we sign at the immigration for the covid extension?

So 'Pandemic is still ongoing back home & etc.' is good enough for another extension?

It always depends on the immigration office, the immigration officer, the month, the day, the time. But really, the immigration rules are universal and should all be the same.

I agree that the immigration rules should be the same in all of Thailand. Whenever I go to the immigration, I feel as if I'm about to play Russian roulette.

I personally don't like all these confusions and unnecessary stress.

It's amazing how farangs on this forum are talking about a simple covid extension and some are already thinking if it will be extended until May. Immigration are making money with people that are using this kind of extension that's the reason why it is extended every 2 months but obviously it will not be extended forever. To my personal opinion immigration prefer this kind of farangs because they can take fees extensions every 2 months and obviously not from long term farangs that pay only 1900 bath a year for annual marriage extension or retirement

I wish it was only about bi-monthly 1900 baht.

I normally make the non o visa because of being married, now I'm on covoid extensions, I assume we will be ok to continue on covoid extension untill the borders open and we can obtain another non o visa , always baffles me why we have to border hop every 90 days though instead of going to Thai immigration and paying them every 90 days, Thailand must lose out on lots of extra income not doing that

I recommend you to recheck the new 'covid extension' requirements.

I think I read that it will only be given to those who originally entered the country via 'visa exemption' and 'tourist visa'....

In the other facebook forum, I read that those who currently have 'covid extension' but entered the country via other visas will not be given 60 day extension but instead 10 day extension.

I'm not sure of the situation, this is what I've gathered so far...

     ***  URGENT  ***

Even if you think you have time to apply, don't wait. APPLY FOR 60-DAY Covid Ext. TODAY.  A reliable forum on FB posted a finer translation of the document. It is NOT an extension of the covid program.  It is a NEW program which defines NEW ways of handling those who are extending under Immigration order Article 5. Apparently, anyone else who will apply for an "UNABLE TO TRAVEL" extension after 25-Jan will ONLY BE GIVEN 10 DAYS PER APPLICATION.  <== Heads-up @yogi yogi

Text from the FB post follows....

"This announcement is a complete new way of letting people stay who are unable to travel due to Covid.
It is not an extension of the ending maximum 60 day program.
    So far we understand:
People entered Thailand with a visa on arrival can NOT apply for an Extension of Stay based on unable to travel due to covid.
People entered Thailand with a Non Immigrant Visa can NOT apply for an Extension of Stay based on unable to travel due to covid and must apply according the normal requirements for their stay and reason why the visa is issued.
People entered Thailand on a Tourist Visa must apply first for the normal 30 day Extension of Stay based on Tourism, after that they can apply for an Extension of Stay for no more than 10 days each time.
    There is an extra warning:
    2. Increasing strictness in considering permission to stay in the Kingdom to prevent aliens from using them as an opportunity to circumvent the reasons for applying to stay in the Kingdom without meeting the objectives of the immigration law. In this regard, the relevant laws, regulations, orders and guidelines shall be complied with. The agency inspects the notification of residence under section 38 of the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 and checks to prevent illegal work without permission"

    This is a teamkill.

im on small island with immigration that aint too busy.........i went yesterday just to check and they said i could come today to extend (before new news came out) and they said no problem.  i hear what u are saying though. this has been huge stress on my for 1900 baht.  im mad at myself cause i should have just done it in other citys long ago where they gave out the 60 days from time of expiration.............so i hear what you are saying.  i willl go again to immigration today and ask if i come on last day if i will have any issues...........thanks

Up to you.  But I've noticed that IOs shift their attitude depending on a given circumstance.

Why don't you just straight up ask an IO, if they could give you 60 days from the time of expiration?

ok but now i have a week to extend.  not only just today.  what irks me is to get the 60 days i have to go on the final day of my current visa,,,,,,i wish they would give the 60 days now but they dont.......im only going after the covid extension once then i go to home country so i dont feel im abusing the system............but i have been on some visa sites on fb and they lambast me for not getting a "proper visa"  .  a covid extension is a proper visa.  i think they are mad at me cause they are on long stay visas and they cant get the covid extension

Better to go sooner than later IMO.

I've noticed that people are more likely to bump into more problems when they apply for the extension closer to the deadline.

IOs know that those people will consider using visa agency when they bump into trouble at the immigration when they have little visa time left.

If I were you I wouldn't wait until the last day.

Better and cheaper to do it now and maybe get another extension later.

    Just my opinion.

THey just want to raise the fees for agents right now. They'll extend it in the next days. I was scared same in Sept 2020 and went back and when I was back i heard it was extended. Just relax lol

I also sensed that there is a money grabbing strategy going on.

People seem to bump into more trouble when they apply for an extension closer to the deadline.

Initially I didn't think that the government would be in this too, but now I feel like it is possible that there are some kind of understanding between parties within the government.

    Just my gut feeling.
