US debt 37 trillion should we be worried
HappyExpat57 replied to 3NUMBAS's topic in Political Soapbox
These are facts, numbers don't lie. -
SPOILER - JD Vance will win in 2028 and 2032
HappyExpat57 replied to angryguy's topic in Political Soapbox
I am constantly amazed at how many non-US citizens make such vehement and often vicious posts about US politics. -
Gotta admit, you see one mall or temple, you've seen them all. I teach to stay busy (and I really enjoy the kids, they're like surrogate grandchildren) on top of bicycing when the weather allows. This forum is the sand that fills the cracks in between. Ever since the transition from ThaiVisa to AN, it's now sand in the vag. It was never this rife with bitter keyboard warriors. I browse/post much less cuz of the blowback I know will happen. Instagram and Bluesky are taking over, much happier places, nicer experiences.

Tourism Chaos Erupts: Hotels Back Out of Thai Government Tourism Scheme
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Report the truth. Running of the Bulls at the Festival de San Fermin in Pamplona, Spain is chaos erupting. Hotels backing out of a scheme is a strategic business decision, a fart in a mud puddle. -
The first and last time I went swimming there, I brought a mask and snorkel. There was 0% visibility and I had to fight a pair of men's red undershorts trying to keep me from getting out of the water. No thanks.

Did you read the article? "Officers inspecting the vehicle discovered two bottles of liquor beside the driver’s seat." Not many people drive around indiscriminately with two bottles of booze next to their seat. And I used to work at a school where there were a large number of foreign teachers who taught primary, and would be chewing breath mints and pouring Visine in their eyes during morning assembly to cover up the hangover.

Tourism Chaos Erupts: Hotels Back Out of Thai Government Tourism Scheme
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why is it always "Chaos erupts?" -
Yeah, and they said horseless carriages would never replace horses. It is necessary for a true democracy (the two party system has failed miserably!). Whether it's now or in the future - only time will tell.

Report Southern Insurgents Target Phuket: New Bomb Threats Uncovered
HappyExpat57 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Hasn't anyone told the bombers that Thailand wants to fast track tourism to the south and this will hurt business? -
USA UPenn ban trans athletes after probe involving swimmer Lia Thomas
HappyExpat57 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I can't believe we're still having this argument. Men in men's sports according to birth certificate. Women in women's sports according to birth certificate. Trans in trans sports regardless of birth certificate, their choice. Done and dusted. -
My first introduction to socializing with Thais - I was visiting my Thai GF's family for a few days at a small village way out in the sticks. One night as we were sitting around a wooden bench drinking beer, I left a pack of my cigarettes out in front of me (I was the only farang in the village at the time). One of the guys picked up the pack without asking then passed it around for the others to help themselves. Another night her stepdad went through my travel bag when I wasn't looking and grabbed an extremely expensive dive flashlight so he could go hunting for field rat. No way he could have afforded to replace it had he broke or lost it. There is nothing I have in common with any Thai men I have met. I am fortunate to belong to a large group of western culture friends - we really watch out for each other. I'm too old and too tired to try and reach across that cultural chasm any more.

Tourism Pattaya's New Tourist Tide: Indian Visitors Stir Up Debate
HappyExpat57 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
There was supposed to be a big Indian night club a few years back at The Avenue Shopping Mall. Did that ever happen? -
I worked at a Scuba shop in Puerto Rico, owned by an American. He said his BEST month was only a $2,000 loss. I told him I had a family member who specialized in helping shops like his, he emphatically replied "No!" Don't know why that came to mind . . .

No idea, just reporting what I got.
