Should my wife die before me... I would have said yes, but others might have a different opinion.

SURVEY: Jo Ferrari -- An opportunity for change or business as usual?
Will B Good replied to Scott's topic in Thailand News
Sadly, I think there are plenty of 'sons of' ready to step into the dinosaurs shoes in order to maintain the current status quo. -
I appreciate that, but imagine if it becomes "a thing". People would leave litter, start having charcoal BBQ's, invite friends, loud parties, food left for vermin. The condo management have it right. No BBQ's. Having said that, each to his own and I imagine I will be in a minority (of one?) with these views.

Are you experiencing “Expat Pandemic Fatigue”?
Will B Good replied to ASEAN NOW News's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I do acknowledge the terrible impact this has had on many Thais, but I have to say I am 'enjoying' the side effects of the pandemic. Most places are pretty empty, it is easy to travel and there are no tourists. -
Now that made me laugh.

There seems little doubt that 'victimless' white collar crime is treated much less seriously than 'normal' crimes. No idea why. They are not victimless and sentences are typically not a deterrent. -

1. If it is registered in her name, unless she is feeling generous, you can say goodbye to it. 2. No expert, but I would have thought bike theft is pretty endemic, particular in the current climate.

Will B Good replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Phuket News
Ha. I know. But it was the going rate amongst the Thai girls. They were continually borrowing and lending money from each other, mainly to cover gambling debts. -

Hate these articles being posted and referring to a video, but then they don't post the video. The Independent and the BBC do it all the time. -

This may be old news but yesterday I visited two Irish pubs but both had no Guinness. Is Guinness still available in Thailand? That's Brexit for you.

Loan shark debt collection erupts into brawl
Will B Good replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Phuket News
My wife regularly lent money out when we lived in Germany to the local Thai girls. I wouldn't call her a loan shark by any stretch, but the accepted rate was 5% per month. I think I missed a trick there. -

When corruption is so endemic it has its own momentum. It is like trying to stop a super tanker with a captain who has a vested interest in going as fast as possible. With so many snouts in the trough, where is the desire, the pressure, for change going to come from? -
Loan shark debt collection erupts into brawl
Will B Good replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Phuket News
Things must be getting very tense 'out there'. Many Thais must be in debt up to the hilt to these loan sharks, and yet have nothing coming in to start repayments.
