There is ample evidence to say they "work", depending on your definition of success. Lockdowns do not eradicate the virus, or even reduce the total number of infections. What they will do is alleviate the pressure on the health care system by spreading out the total number of infections over a longer period of time allowing doctors and nurses to cope.
