A 10 speed box is good on a motor with low rpm torque, they shove in a very low first gear ratio to get the thing moving, plus it has 3 overdrive gears for fast cruising. In my opinion an engine with low rpm grunt that stays there through it's normal usage doesn't need  so many gears. Of course final drive ratio comes into the equation but...????

increasing the number of gears is not a cost increasing fancy fart from the manufacturers but the squeeze from the regulators to reduce average fleet pollution. although marginalised pertaining to a single model every bit of pollution decrease helps to meet the afore-mentioned demand. that nobody cares in Thailand and that the resident eggsburts think it's overkill is irrelevant.

He probably wouldn't be tempted to embezzle just your money, but what if he had 100 or 1000 others on his books?

And would most people use a lawyer for this or an accountant? I suspect the latter. Plenty of dodgy examples of those around.

And whichever you go for you still have the difficulty of selecting a decent one, which is exactly what many farangs might have trouble with here. I certainly would.

i could name a fistful law offices in Pattaya who render these services having a history of 15-25 years in business.

Maybe so. But most farangs come from countries where professionals can be trusted. It does take some time to get into the mindset of assuming that everyone around you may be a thief.

And I wonder how much use such a document in Thai would be to the average farang? Would you be able to tell a real one from a forgery? I wouldn't.

no, i wouldn't be able to tell. having said so i have strong doubts whether an established lawyer would engage in a criminal way embezzling a peanuts amount of $400-500 per annum.

Colin Vard also invested about £1m in Phuket, after a successful career in Dublin as an author and part-owner of a clothing factory. He lost a total of eight properties, over a similar time period.

'nuff said, nothing left to add. :whistling:

It is not unheard of for accountants/lawyers to charge farang owners for doing the annual returns but not to actually do them. I personally know two people in Pattaya who were stung this way, and they received demands for taxes and fines going back 10 years or more. The accountants had vanished, along with much of the company paperwork.

Professionalism in Thailand can leave a lot to be desired.

if the Farangs were stupid enough not to ask every year for the "tax return settled" documents i can only say "som na na".

When I said I had 3 mil in the bank, 800K is in a kind of term deposit for retirement purposes and just over a couple of mil in a joint account, which means I have more than sufficient for us both to live on for some time to come without making any more transfers from Oz. Also, I'm no spring chicken, and I'm keeping what I hope is enough in reserve if I need any kind of emergency medical treatment. I'm sure it's not the way others would choose to do it, but it's my way.

Oh good.  Someone else who is determined to state that they are wealthy....

I'm at a loss as to why a few posters with no interest in the topic at hand (as they are v wealthy, and so it doesn't affect them....), keep posting regardless!

an unfair statement as "giddyup" didn't mention anything about being wealthy. but even if he did it would be ludicrous to equate 4mm Baht cash holdings as "wealthy" because not everybody can afford it.

"laying open" is a bit misleading.

AFAIK, but maybe I'm wrong, the identity of the true beneficiaries of the company is only known to the BVI registrar, maybe to the BVI government due to new reporting duties, and to your bank.

there's no need to report it to the bank. i'd like to know which bank still keeps accounts without a natural person listed as beneficiary in violation of CRS.

my "laying open" means no more nominees as beneficiaries (as in the good ol' times).

Important legal concept...its not your limited company, that infers ownership, you are an officer eg a managing director of a legal entity, ie a person which is the limited company, and you are employed by said legal entity

incorrect information. nowadays not only BVI companies but virtually all jurisdictions which offer offshore constructs insist on laying open the individual beneficiaries irrespective whether nominee directors are appointed or not. we established two BVI constructs and have to update every two years the beneficiaries, i.e. my wife and myself including proof of our tax residence. that also applies for trusts, setup as last will,  in which "future" beneficiaries can be named.

I find the No Aircon Bums are first out the Taxi,  Last to the Bar, and say they love Thai Food.

and if anyone's a bum, it's the guy who can't keep cool without some a/c

you both crossed a line using the expression "bum". having said so i claim that in most cases the real reason of rejecting the comfort of airconditioning in a tropical country (or heating in a cold country) are financial limitations and not the reasons pulled by some out of thin air whilst poking their noses.

i like honest comments such as "lower electricity bill means more beer!"
