Perhaps the 2 deceased men and Gage the survivor, were victims of the karma they unleashed in the world. That's karma catching up with you. -
Visa Extension - Renewal Problem
expat_4_life replied to allane's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
This is probably the least expensive option, exit to a nearby country and re-enter visa exempt. Your situation is also what fixers/agents are for, no idea what it costs. You didn't mention showing the transfer receipt to immigration, might work. -

Only thing I can say about Nikki is I don't know much about her. Pompeo on the surface does have an impressive resume - but he's a hard no for me due to his scheming to have Julian Assange kidnapped or assassinated. https://news.yahoo.com/kidnapping-assassination-and-a-london-shoot-out-inside-the-ci-as-secret-war-plans-against-wiki-leaks-090057786.html

TM30 and first 90-day reporting in Bangkok
expat_4_life replied to Yumthai's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I helped a friend go through the visa exempt to retirement process recently at Chaeng Wattana. Alright it not a marriage extension, and he did not apply for any interim 30/60 day extensions, he went straight from visa exempt to 1 year extension based on retirement. (90 day reporting and TM30) He was not asked for a TM30 until he got to the annual extension. We had checked at the 90 day reporting counter when he received his NON-O stamp (converting from visa exempt). At that time the 90 day reporting counter said that during the extension process he would get a receipt informing him when to begin his 90 days reporting. Thia is exactly what happened (regarding his 90 day reporting), when he received his annual extension they stapled a receipt into his passport informing when he should begin his 90 day reports. (annual renewal date and under consideration) The only other thing I can add is information regarding his annual renewal date, this might be a concern if you plan to spend time out of the country. The expiry date of his NON-O became his annual extension renewal date. In his case case he applied for NON-O from visa exempt first few days of December, when issued it had a 27 Feb expiration (90 days from the day he applied). He did not get the NON-O on the day he applied, but had to go back a couple of weeks later (under consideration) to actually get it stamped into his passport. Immigration performed a home visit during the under consideration period. (receiving the annual extension) Then in early Feb he applied for the 1 year annual extension (this was the first time they asked for TM30) and his one year renewal date is 27 Feb (same as the NON-O he switched to from visa exempt). -
I was at Chaeng Wattana with a friend doing TM30, took 2 tries. First try: Signed copy of landlords ID CARD and house book, rental agreement. I would have thought that was enough, but he needed more. Perhaps due to the fact that his rental agreement was with an agent (in the building) whose name appeared on the rental agreement (as opposed to the owner). The immigration officer provided a Power of Attorney form they wanted completed by the landlord. Second try: (as above) Signed copy of landlords ID CARD and house book, rental agreement. (Plus) Signed copy of agents ID CARD and a Power of Attorney from the landlord. This was just a few weeks ago at Chaeng Wattana.

Biden rules out sending Ukraine F-16 jets
expat_4_life replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Pretty obvious to me that Ukraine is losing this war. If they were winning they would not need more weapons. Thus far they've burned through the old soviet era weapons, not just theirs but also of the former Warsaw Pact countries, the western supplied anti-tank stingers/manpads, artillery and in the coming months they will burn through the new shipments of tanks and armored vehicles. I don't think anything the west can supply will change the outcome, but it will ensure many more needless deaths. All F-16s will do is draw out the conflict and risk even further escalation. It feels like the West is in a trap, they can't stop escalating. Any country that does not continue to give more and higher tech weaponry is going to be the country that takes the blame when this war is lost. Diplomacy is the only way out. -
First on CNN: US Navy veteran released from Russian custody
expat_4_life replied to Scott's topic in World News
Definitely good news, some more details would be nice. Much thanks to Bill Richardson and his team for securing his release. What did the Russians get in return? -
I can confirm that a friend I have been assisting with his visa exempt to NON-O for retirement at Chaeng Wattana also got a home visit. Do they now do it for everyone? Who knows ... This happened just recently, he applied something like 27 Nov, got under consideration until 15 Dec. Then got a phone call and house visit about a week after he applied.

Was at Chaeng Wattana yesterday - friend received his 90 day NON-O. He converted from visa exempt and entered 10 November. His 90 day NON-O expiry date is 90 days from application submission. Having seen this thread just the day before, we stopped by the 90 day reporting area (Counter A) where I spoke to an officer there. Was told no need to do a 90 day report before applying for an annual extension at which time, as part of the process, they would provide a 90 day reporting receipt advising when the 90 day report is due.

Bangkok, Nov 9 (TNA) – Staff of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration collected 572,602 Krathong baskets ... there was not a single Styrofoam Krathong basket collected in seven districts. Of the collected Krathong baskets ... 4.3% were made from Styrofoam. ------------------------------ Can't make up their minds about the Styrofoam. Oh well ????

You're right about the Kiwi, was one of my favorite pubs to chill at. I've taken a liking to O'Sheas on Sukhumvit 33/1, has tables on a veranda out front and pub fare. There is also a Japanese place right next door, Ten Ten, and on the corner is another English Pub called Robinhood. The huge Emquartier/Emporium malls are only a short distance away. For Thai food I always recommend Wanakarm Restaurant right off Sukhumvit 23, and Phuket cuisine at Prai Raya on Soi 8. Another spot I like to take visitors is Tawandaeng German Brewery on Rama 3 - they have a live show with a mix of performers and music.

I have a friend returning to Thailand, trying to figure out what extension renewal date he will get. He will be doing his paperwork at CW in Bangkok. 1) he plans to enter on Nov 15 2) he already has 800k seasoned in a bank account 3) he can apply any time for NON-O while tourist stay is valid allowing 15 days remaining 4) after he obtains NON-O he will apply for retirement extension Question is what renewal date he will get? Will eventual 1 year retirement extension renewal date be based on: 1) the date he originally entered Thailand (Nov 15) 2) the date he applies for NON-O 3) the date he receives the NON-O 4) the date he applies for 1 year retirement extension 5) the date he receives 1 year retirement extension Thx

Reducing my house electricity costs – any advice please .
expat_4_life replied to Custard boy's topic in The Electrical Forum
If you're away for a few days at some point, read the meter to get a estimate of how many units your home uses when it is not occupied. You can then gauge how much of your bill is due to daily activity. This might help you zero in on activity vs overheads you can reduce. Other little things that may shave off a few baht 1) Keep the refrigerator door closed more 2) use the washing machine less, do larger loads less frequently, check what type of wash cycles duration/water temp you use, let the sun do the drying use less spin speed/time 3) If you're going to cook, then possibly cook meals for several days at one time. Allow items from the fridge/freezer to defrost or reach room temp before heating/cooking
