Everyone knew Ukraine had a neo-Nazi, far right, or whatever problem. Before the war this was openly discussed. Now it is Russian propaganda or Putin talking points ...

Wouldn't surprise me ... JD Vance was right about Europe: "For years we've been told everything we fund and support is in the name of our shared democratic values, everything from our Ukraine policy to digital censorship is billed as a defence of democracy, but when we see European courts cancelling elections and senior officials threatening to cancel others we ought to ask ourselves if we are holding ourselves to an appropriately high standard." (February 2025) This is how it has been going ...

Starmer pledges to ban Ninja swords by the summer, taking bold action. I have doubts! If Ninja swords are the problem, does it not stand to reason that Japan would have more stabbings than the UK? Me thinks it is not a Ninja sword problem. It's the Ninjas. What are your thoughts?

Acting Social Security head threatens to shut down agency
expat_4_life replied to TheAppletons's topic in Political Soapbox
I thought it was illegal for even the President to shutdown an agency, plenty of court rulings of late ordering employee re-hires, etc, etc, He is clearly confused about the court order. Mr. Dudek seems exasperated about how to proceed with DOGE being blocked access to fulfill their mandate. He has no authority to shut SSA down and has subsequently backtracked on his remarks after receiving clarification about the court order. You can stop the hand wringing over a SSA shutdown or carry on, your choice. It is not the Admins policy and would be political suicide. I suggest ignoring such nonsense. -
Who you gonna believe, anonymous sources or denial from Musk and Trump? Looks to me like a case of Fake News

Why are you pretending that this is something new? Where were you when Biden was the EV car salesman?

Shake up in the FBI’s NY office, Head, James Dennehy resigned…

Perfect example of why some people say, "The FBI, where evidence goes to die" -
No, it is not recognized as a Treaty. The Budapest Memorandum, signed in 1994, was never ratified by the U.S. Senate, a prerequisite for a treaty to become part of U.S. domestic law under Article VI of the Constitution (the Supremacy Clause). Without ratification, it doesn’t have the status of "supreme Law of the Land" that would allow its provisions to be directly enforced or challenged in U.S. courts. It’s an executive agreement, binding only as a political commitment, not a legal one within the U.S. system.

That does not prevent Hunter or anyone else that was pardoned by Biden from being compelled to testify in any investigation. They also can no longer utilize the 5th amendment to avoid responding. Anyone that was pardoned and offers false testimony under oath can be charged with perjury, a new crime, not covered by their pardon.

DOGE Claims It Has Saved Billions. See Where.
expat_4_life replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
Oh, thanks for pointing out that DOGE needs to "double down" and cut deeper to reach their $1T budget savings target. I support this sentiment. Slash more!! -
I agree with your sentiment ... there is no indication that anyone is actually going to read the replies that workers send. More like a "pulse check" and rooting out of people that "resist" such a simple request. I really want to believe there are hard working people at some of these agencies but the media is making that difficult by amplifying only the dumbest, most malcontent of them.

By your measure it's actually 4x as good ... suspect many were not around in the 80's when visa exempt was a mere 15 days -
Musk targets Social Security with blatant misinformation
expat_4_life replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
You have to skip over the dozens of times during the campaign that Trump has said "no cuts to social security" to make this claim. Most recently, even since the inception of DOGE, he has said it again in a couple of interviews: 1) February 7, 2025: During a press conference at the White House alongside Japanese Prime Minister, Trump stated, "Social Security will not be touched, it will only be strengthened." This came as DOGE’s audit was underway, with Musk present at the event. 2) February 18, 2025: In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump addressed concerns sparked by DOGE’s fraud allegations, saying, "Social Security won't be touched, other than if there's fraud or something. President Trump has been consistent on his policy of no cuts to social security. Everyone knows that social security cuts are political suicide, not going to happen!!
