It is pretty sad alright ... been on the decline for quite some time https://www.city-journal.org/article/unscientific-american As to your observation with regards to the election I agree. A more serious effect is the damage to trust in science as a whole. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41562-023-01537-5

Your Girlfriend's Average Sandwich Quota
expat_4_life replied to Chris Daley's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Who can eat 5 sandwiches @ day? My gf makes an absolutely delicious grilled ham and cheese with jalapenos on sourdough ... the rest of the time, when she is not working, we eat Thai salads, soup, or whatever she fancies - she has a weakness for fresh seafood. She makes up for her less than enthusiastic desire to clean by always grabbing me a beer when she opens the fridge. 🍻 . -

Kudos to the BJP. Although gambling may generate government revenue, it simultaneously creates misery, family strife, debt and destruction. Who picks up the pieces of the destroyed lives it leaves in it's wake? -
SpaceX, picking up where NASA left off over five decades ago, getting closer to the visions we had then of human achievement in space. I recall being a member of PanAm's First Moon Flights Club back in the 60's - enthusiasm was high. Looking forward to other firsts with the SpaceX plans to launch and test colonization concepts on Mars in 2026 that were recently announced. Godspeed SpaceX.

Probably for the same reasons that Five men have been declared dead days after they left for a voyage in a 22-foot submersible to see the wreckage of the Titanic. -
I would characterize this a little differently - US hegemony is unraveling before our eyes. This is what is steadily leading to the "sick brain" you refer to as the US lashes out to maintain the hegemony it has enjoyed and abused. Hopefully this comes to an end without a major global conflict and nuclear destruction is avoided. Fully agree with your comments about the US as a major cause of conflicts and economic disaster. US leaves nothing but destruction and and misery in its wake

As other posters have advised, 30 or 45 days before expiration, depending on the office. Just a couple of notes: 1) this will not change your renewal date - if u apply one month early for example you will effectively receive 13 months. 2) financial requirements will be applied as of application date, not expiration date - for example 800k in the bank 2 months prior to renewal will be based on application date Good luck with your extension

I just had a similar experience at CW. Reporting 90 days at CW after returning from a trip abroad on a re-entry permit. I'm on a NON-O retirement extension. Went in with an appointment and was done in 2 minutes. Only needed my passport and the TM47. Was not asked for a TM30. Curious why some get asked for TM30 and some don't, but not sure we are going to solve that riddle here today. Shout out to @TallGuyJohninBKKmaking an attempt to ask relevant questions though as to what may trigger a request for one.

Quite the turnaround from the original "If it's not Boeing I'm not going" which originated in the late 70's in the wake of the deadliest aviation accident in U.S. history - American Airlines Flight 191, which crashed on May 25, 1979. A total of 273 people died – 271 aboard the plane, two on the ground – at O’Hare Airport in Chicago when a DC-10, the flagship product of what was then Boeing’s biggest and most serious competitor, McDonnell-Douglas, lost an engine as it was attempting to take off. There were actual bumper stickers carrying the original slogan

Phuket taxi driver tussle turns streets into a brawl zone (video)

I suspect there is always an uneasy tension between the locals and the tourists that occasionally boils up in incidents like this. There are way too many tourists for me in Phuket, can imagine how locals sometimes might feel. -

I fear the answer is never, too much corruption - doesn't seem to matter who gets elected. The rot extends through all the institutions. -

Sad that this woman apparently thought she had to take her own life because her daughter was a drug addict. Drugs and Alcohol ... habits that destroy the lives of addicts and those around them. -
Oh Beloved Bangkok, How So You Have Changed...
expat_4_life replied to HugoFastor's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
This is one of the things that makes life more convenient, no doubt. I certainly don't miss a trip across town or to the malls for retail shopping. However on the food end, all the rapid development has forced many food options to relocate to malls. Street vendors no longer exist anywhere near me and many small venues (food and entertainment) have been replaced by gentrification. Condos, commercial properties and hotels have taken their place. I'm dreading the day they finally force my local wet market to pack their bags and I'm forced to shop at the mall/supermarket. -
First off, take a giant chill pill and a deep breath. From what you've posted it looks like a problem between the actual owner and the "dishonest agent". The "owner/new agent" was forced into taking action to change the locks and seems to be acting in good faith. Doesn't sound like you've been asked for any back rents. Be prepared to enter into a new contract and have your receipts or bank transfer evidence of payment in order then see what happens next. Be prepared to move - I seriously doubt that if you have the note basically admitting to agent fraud, the contract, and payment evidence that you are in any legal jeopardy. Good advice from @KhunLAregards getting in direct contact with the owner. Less than desirable situation to find oneself in, good luck

Thai PM Srettha Axed Over Controversial Cabinet Appointment

Doesn't fit my definition of "Axed" .... maybe/hopefully gone soon though, Not a Srettha fan. 😁 Only worry is who we get next ... careful what you wish for, as they say
