  1. Yeah, there certainly seems to be a high level of scumbaggery in those places. If they could manage to keep them there, at least they could declare a partial victory. I visited both once, years ago. Never again..
  2. You are right in there not being many famous Thai brand names. They do, however, produce a lot for major foreign brands, notably japanese, korean etc. for the ASEAN market. The automotive industry, for example, is huge in Thailand.
  3. That's a common misunderstanding.. In reality the manufacturing sector (much of it high tech) is the largest in the Thai economy (35%). The service sector, which tourism is merely a part of, is the second largest (25%). Then follows commerce (18%), real estate(14%), agriculture (9%).
  4. Funny to read all the triggered comments about 'only' foreigners being targeted and punished, whilst in the Thai media, (Phuket) locals are complaining that foreigners are getting away with crimes and misdemeanours that Thai people would never get away with.. Who is right?
  5. With near daily occurrences of misbehaving tourists/foreigners in Phuket, there's no doubt they have to take action. But again I wonder, how are they gonna do this without hampering the lives of the many good and decent foreigners coming here and those of us calling los our home? Increased screening will most certainly make obtaining and extending visas both more cumbersome and, probably, more expensive as well. Revoking the visas of perpetrators is all good and well, but it doesn't really prevent any incidents from happening..
  6. Nobody needs to make excuses for her, as she was not in the wrong. Resting peacefully on some stairs by the beach is not illegal, and is fully acceptable behaviour in Thailand. He was the only one in the wrong here. Is that so hard to understand..? Now, if she and they wants to go after him for what he did, and even make an example out of him, then that is nothing more than he deserves.
  7. Where to begin.. firstly, you are saying that (Thai) people going to Europe or the US will witness 25x(!) worse than unprovoked, violent assault on a daily basis? That's just plain wrong. Also, nobody 'needed' or were forced to go to Afghanistan or Iraq (except the poor souls living there). They went there, volunteeringly, as trained soldiers, expecting violence.
  8. The beaches in Thailand are public land, and in principle accessible to anyone. Thai people know this. It is the ones (many) encroaching on public land that are in the wrong. In any case, that swiss pos' behaviour was wrong under any circumstance, anywhere. Now stop making excuses for him.
  9. Exactly so. Unbelievably, after all that is known, there are still people in here trying to make excuses for that ill-behaved, self-entitled piece of thrash..
  10. So many disgruntled expats in here, indulging in victim-blaming and thai-bashing on a daily basis, trying to get some relief from their own 'ptsd' from living in a country where they feel estranged, misunderstood and miserable..
  11. Says the keyboard-warrior.. In real life you would probably lock yourself in and sob helplessly if a khatoy came up and beechslapped you on the street.
  12. A nice and decent thai lady from a good background is not accustomed to get physically assaulted, with no warning and for no good reason, by lowlife thrash like that swiss pos. Not surprised she has some kind of reaction after, also given all the stir this all caused.
  13. Considering her name and her psychotic disposition, I'm willing to wager my left nut that she originates from a certain mammoth-sized slavic nation...
  14. Well, they are few and far between, and I guess they keep more to themselves.. The (few) decent ones I've met have been from the major cities in the west, are better educated and have a more European mindset. They can't speak their minds at home of course, but they have no love for their evil little dictator and his wars. I almost feel sorry for them, trapped in a country and a situation they are powerless to change...
  15. He doesn't really seem to fit the profile of a 'high-risk foreigner', but he shouldn't have overstayed his visa.. At his age, and assuming he has a nice Norwegian pension-check coming every month, it's quite easy for him to get a proper (non-o) long-term visa.
  16. 90% of russians are.. and they all vote for putin. The remaining 10% are okay.
  17. Thanks for that one MicroB, though there's probably a lot of reading involved for those who don't believe in science. They usually prefer slogans and one-liners.. One key-takeaway; 'The effect of masks in controlling transmission is additive. The more masks worn, the greater the knock down.'
  18. Projecting much are we..? You must be one of those anti-science hicks who injected chlorine to rid yourself of the 'choina-voirus'... It is scientifically proven, beyond any doubt, that an entire population wearing masks will slow the spread of a virus in said population.
  19. You again.. What Israel is doing in Palestine is per definition a genocide, which is; 'the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.' Which is exactly the netanyahoo fascist regimes' endgame. Now go count the dead Palestinian civilians, far outnumbering those of hamas, then recalibrate your moral compass, because you are on the wrong side of history here.
  20. No, you can stop posting nonsense now, along with your feverish and immoral attempts at trying to defend and justify an ongoing genocide.
  21. Clickbait? I'll believe this if/when they enforce this where I live. In any case, to help prevent covid, everybody must wear masks in public, not just a few select people..
  22. You are incoherent at best, and make little sense. What are you trying to say here?
  23. Absolute nonsense. There has been an ongoing conflict and an israeli occupation of Palestine for decades and decades. History didn't start on october 7, 2024, and you should hang your head on shame for trying to twist the facts and trying to justify an ongoing genocide, condemned by the entire world.
  24. Put that flag away boy. There will be no genocide on behalf of the tolerant and peaceful people of Thailand. And a genocide it is. What is going on in Palestine now has nothing to do with self defence, it is ethnic cleansing, and if you are defending it then you are no better than the wehrmacht during ww2, or putins butcherers in Ukraine.
