  1. Just sent money via Wise. Sent from my credit union to Wise yesterday, batch processed after midnight EST. Received funds notification from Wise this evening about 8:30pm local time. Converted to baht, sent to wife's Bangkok Bank account. Was not asked purpose of funds. Was charged the old Wise fee. Had her bank account open online to confirm receipt. Press send 8:40:55 All sent 8:41:06 Bkk received 8:41:21
  2. Had been following this thru January when the interpretation seemed to be all income earned worldwide would be considered taxable. Not really following it now, as stated, waiting to see how it plays out in the reality world. I want to see a written directive from the Thai tax authorities.
  3. That's what we HAD. The purpose of the rule change (or reverting to actually following the law as originally written?) was to capture the earnings of Thais working overseas, but expats would be caught as well. Unless you've got a link to an actual government tax office directive, the rule is than an expat in Thailand >185 days is a resident for tax purposes and all income worldwide is taxable. How they deal with tax treaties and pensions is unknown. I'm waiting with all the others to see how this plays out.
  4. Have they? From what I've seen, nothing has been made clear. It appears all income worldwide is subject to tax. But nobody knows yet how this is to be implemented.
  5. Wise charges a service fee for an ACH pull, and takes additional time for processing and verification. Sending an ACH push from your bank should be free and complete within minutes or by next morning, depending on your bank's procedures. Having a Wise balance doesn't affect this. It simply means you already completed the 3 days of processing days or weeks prior. It's still there.
  6. How did you calculate that? Yesterday evening (9am NYC time), I sent $1K from my broker to my credit union (no fee ACH). A couple hours later (batch processing), my credit union notified me funds available. I logged on and sent $1K to Wise (no fee ACH), pending batch processing. Credit union is not necessary. I use that step to avoid linking Wise directly to my brokerage account. Using the CU firebreak adds a day due to overnight processing. If I sent from the broker, Wise would have the cash available within a few hours. This evening around 6pm, I'll get an email from Wise advising funds availability. I'll log in and send the money directly to my wife's Bangkok Bank account. Account details are stored, so I just have to press a few buttons. I'll be charged about $7.50 and get the advertised foreign exchange rate. If I select "monthly living expenses" as the purpose, the funds will be in her account in 30 seconds, which I can confirm by logging into Bangkok Bank. If I select "long term Thailand", then the transaction will be reviewed, then will be released at 10am the next day, and in the account by 1pm.
  7. Hmmmm.............they've reduced the top tax rate for income derived from Thai sources from 35% to 17%. At the same time, they've instituted universal income tax whereby all income worldwide is subject to Thai tax........at 17% top tax rate.....for anyone deemed a resident for tax purposes. Hub of consistency.
  8. How was the 250 Euro sent? If via SWIFT, then it's a fixed fee charged by that bank. Send 100,000 and the fee is a paltry 15 Euro. Send 250 and the fee is a ridiculous 15 Euro. Send 50 and the fee is a criminal..........15 Euro.
  9. This mot'rcyclist gang, their faces obscur'd behind helmets, has't been capturing their brazen acts on cam'ra, executing high-spe'd wheelie stunts in congest'd areas. Regularly did share via social media, these videos has't did shock the oth'rwise harmonious community, frightening pedestrians and fellow road us'rs.
  10. Good to know if you get charged and flee the country, the clock doesn't pause and you can simply wait it out.
  11. Will + Usufruct. Usufruct will put your name on the back of the Chanote. A little protection so relatives can't "legally" force you out. The will could put the property in the son's name with the stipulation that you continue to reside there.
  12. Fee calculator here: https://wise.com/price-change/borderless-send?source=USD&target=THB&payInMethod=BALANCE&priceChange=global-reprice-may-2024&sourceAmount=1000 Cost to send US$1000 went up $0.65 For US$10,000 add an additional $3.30
  13. Why? Were police involved, and one officer set up the, umm, interview? Or did the other rider make the request? Details? Did this occur in the roadway or on the sidewalk? If the roadway, was the other rider passing on the wrong side? Was the other rider inattentive, failed to see you, and hit a stationary object?
  14. More expense and hassle than leaving the country and returning?
  15. Seems as though Lao e-visa might be accepted. https://laoevisa.gov.la/index
  16. Apply Visa in Advance To travel between China and Laos via the cross-border train, foreign tourists need to obtain a visa in advance. The Mohan Railway Station Port and the Boten Railway Station Port do not provide visa-on-arrival services. Make sure to check the visa requirements and apply for a visa in a timely manner before your trip. In Kunming, you need to go to the Consulate of Laos in Kunming in Caiyunbei Lu in Guandu District to apply for a visa to Laos. Office hour: Monday to Friday Morning: 09:00 – 11:30 Afternoon: 14:00 – 16:00 Appart from Laos Consulate in Kunming, you can also apply visa to Laos via Laos Consulate in Jinghong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanning, Changsha and Hong Kong. http://chinatrain12306.com/travel/kunming-vientiane-train.htm Sounds like an interesting trip. If you do this, please post details.

  22. That doesn't make any sense. What local bank? Where is the nearest mall?
  23. If you're concerned and want confirmation, take the passbook into any branch and have the clerk do a balance forward. This will print recent transactions in the passbook. The coding for the transfer should confirm an international transfer. It's also possible to do this at the Passbook Update ATM outside the bank for both savings and fixed accounts.
