Extra account for retirement visa?
NoDisplayName replied to jethro69's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I believe your agent is incorrect. You can switch accounts, but must take care that there is no break in maintaining the balance. -
Extra account for retirement visa?
NoDisplayName replied to jethro69's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Bangkok Bank can do a passbook balance update (at desk or auto machine) without requiring a small deposit as required by some other banks. I have a fixed account for my 800K, only transactions are semi-annual interest. I pop by the bank every three months or so to update the balance. No change to the amount, but IO gets to see the balance has been maintained. -
Extra account for retirement visa?
NoDisplayName replied to jethro69's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes, you can....but why would you unless switching account sometime during the year? Multiple amounts multiplies the risk of one of the multiple accounts falling just short of the required amount. And then you get to request bank guarantee letters and 3- or 6- or 12-month statements (depending on IO office) for each account. -

Electric baht busses for Pattaya......Good idea or Bad idea.....
NoDisplayName replied to redwood1's topic in Pattaya
This is deleted ridiculous. How 'bout set up a public transportation system like other third world countries? Why depend on untrained, unlicensed, anybody's second cousin with an old beater pickup to haul the public. Really. It's not that hard to set up a public bus system. Forget the monorails and futuristic semi-bulletproof EV Tesla moontrucks and just have the city buy some small 17-seater short-buses that will easily fit on the roads, and hire and train municipal employee bus drivers. Heck, if Myanmar can do it...... No, that's not complicated enough. We're wanna be the hub of hubs of Asian space exploration instead. -

No comment. I simply enjoyed the final sentence of the article. -
When you get tattoos or nose rings or dye your hair purple and green, then go out in public to show it all off...........you've made it other peoples business. "Look at me! Look at me! Notice me!...........How dare you look at me!"

It's a form of advertising. Frisky falangs can tell their mates about the awesome chick that could do everything and more. Forget her name, they all sound alike, but she was at ___ bar and had this ____tattoo on her ____. You can't miss her! Similar with the tramp stamps on the rear. So XXX movie producers can tell the "actresses" apart.

Be aware: Re-entry permit
NoDisplayName replied to RafPinto's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
If you're going to CW for retirement extension or certain other extension services, you can make appointments both for extension and re-entry permit. If you don't want to bother with the appointment system, get a queue number for re-entry just before your extension number is called. Re-entry desk works pretty quickly. Odds are your re-entry number will be called as you're rushing back upstairs with the photocopy of your new extension. -
Why not lead with that information, rather than imply you're looking for a backdoor method to get a possibly illegitimate license?

Do you have significant motorcycle experience? No matter, with a "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" attitude, I'm sure you'll find a way. Good news, I suppose. The easy option comes with free Darwin award. Good lucky!

Be aware: Re-entry permit
NoDisplayName replied to RafPinto's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The agent was correct. You can get a re-entry permit anytime, valid until the expiration of the CURRENT permission of stay. Agent asked when you would return. You gave a date before the end of the CURRENT permission of stay. I'll have to assume the agent did not ask if you were going to get a new permission of stay that very day, nor did you offer than information. There is a reason we all get the permission of stay first, then the re-entry permit. Note that we have to provide a copy of the current permission of stay to the IO at the re-entry desk. The re-entry permit is keyed to the permission of stay, with the POS number and expiry date written on the re-entry permit. -
Which BASIC pickup would you buy new or almost new?
NoDisplayName replied to Sandboxer's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
We're borrowing my wife's BIL's old work truck and will eventually buy it. 12 year old Toyota Hilux basic contractor's model, dual fuel (petrol or NGV) with nearly 400K on the clock. Don't know about AT as an option, though. Runs great, expect to get another 5 years out of it. I'd buy another similar model used next time around. Toyatas seem to go forever, any mechanic can work on it, and repair parts are readily available. -
1000 Island Dressing on a Pizza????
NoDisplayName replied to sqwakvfr's topic in Western Food in Thailand
You could try something amazingly devious. When you order, ask them to use regular pizza sauce instead of 1000 island. -
That would depend on the bylaws of the condo, if any exist. I would expect that anything attached to an individual unit is the responsibility of the unit owner. The regulations may state that the exterior must remain in accordance with the building plan, but that simply means the owner can't deviate from the plan. It says nothing about maintenance of privately owned units. Windows must also adhere to the building aesthetic, but if the owner breaks the glass, who is responsible for replacement? Same-same with balcony railings.

The great firewall doesn't discriminate against salads. I can honestly say during my 15 years in 'red' China, I never needed a VPN to find salad making instructions, nor has salad been pixilated in movies. Yes, the Chinese know salads, but they aren't too keen on eating raw vegetables. Something to do with the nightsoil commonly used on the lettuce perhaps? The problem the Chinese have with western food, is they don't have many real, authentic western restaurants. Some Zhou will open a restaurant featuring western meals, but he has no experience, probably only ever had Scottish food at the local MacDonald's. He copies a menu off the internet, gives some photos to the cooks, and says make this. They prepare food that looks western, but tastes alien. I can confirm spaghetti made with ketchup, pizza with vegetable oil instead of pizza sauce, and poor cuts of meat smothered with pepper sauce and labeled steak.

You bought the condo? You own it? The railing in question is on the balcony in your unit, NOT a common area? Seems that should be your responsibility.
