US Charles Schwab Residency?
NoDisplayName replied to BKKKevin's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
No understand. Who is passing and who is inheriting? International accounts registered to a non-US person wouldn't be affected by a US estate tax? All taxes due on interest and dividends were collected at source, and capital gains are not taxed per DTA. Only tax due would be on remittances to Thailand. I'm no expert, so........... -
US Charles Schwab Residency?

You're comparing a US domestic account (Vanguard) with an international account (Schwab). Different animals. There are also differences depending on account ownership. Schwab International will withhold taxes on dividends and interest for non-US account holders, at a rate set by the relevant DTA, sent directly to the IRS. No tax returns are required for these account holders, and refunds are not possible. The rate is currently 15% for Thai citizens (10% for Chinese). There is NO tax on capital gains for non-resident aliens. Holding non-dividend paying ETF's results in zero tax to the US. Schwab international accounts do not withhold tax for US citizens who have submitted the correct W-9 and personal identification. Tax returns will be required for these lucky folks. -
George Floyd was a career criminal, should have been sentenced to life in prison, not executed in the street. Have you questioned why your video cuts out before the cardiac arrest, before Floyd stops breathing, before the subordinate officer informs Chauvin, before subordinate officer asks to move Floyd, before Chauvin refuses permission, before Chauvin sits atop a dying man for nine minutes? They tried this with Watergate.
-
Incorrect. Floyd was being held down by police officers, not being choked or throttled. He went into cardiac arrest, his heart stopped. Cops are not to blame, Floyd's drug abuse 'probably' led to this. We're fine up until this point. This is where one of the subordinate officers informed Chauvin that Floyd no longer had a pulse, and wanted to administer CPR. Chauvin denied his subordinates request to render aid to a man who's heart had stopped, and held Floyd down....using a legal hold.....for an additional nine minutes, apparently to ensure he remained dead. That is the crime. Arguing over the cause of cardiac arrest is deflection from the actions of the officer who refusing to allow his subordinates to render aid. It's not just that he declined to assist. He actively prevented the other officers from resuscitating their captive.

US Charles Schwab Residency?

You can link to other US banks or credit unions or brokerages where you have accounts, and use the no-fee ACH transfer. I set up my Schwab International account to push/pull with a broker, a credit uniion, and Wise, all done online with no calls or authorization required. My Schwab account is setup with my Thai True number. I've received both SMS and voice calls from Schwab. -
Report Thai submarine plans sink as Germany halts engine sale

Not knock-offs. The CHD620 is identical to the MTU396, being a licensed copy. The only difference is the label.....and the cost. This is just the result of EU regulations on sales of military-related gear to China, probably coming into effect after the licensing contract had been signed. China already has the tech, and is allegedly making improvements. Since the engine offered to Thailand is referred to as "CHD620" not "TBD620" that means it's one of Hechai's improved variants. At least it should have high pressure common rail injection. Maybe sequential turbo-charging as well, not sure. Hechai's webpage on CHD620/622 is completely blank, so no specs sheet. Technologically it's certainly more advanced than MTU396, which is an ancient design by now (MTU is promoting MTU 4000 for new submarines). from a post on Weibo, believed to be the submarine variant of HND’s CHD620 diesel engine designated the CHD620V16H6 passing certification. This variant of CHD620 is planned to be installed on Pakistan Navy’s Hangor Class (S20P) and Royal Thai Navy’s S26T class submarine currently under construction. The CHD620V16H6 will replaced the MTU16V396SE84 as the submarine’s main generator since Germary block the export of such engine to China. https://www.sinodefenceforum.com/t/chinese-marine-propulsion.8400/page-9 -

Are the two engines not identical, apart from the label? the offered Chinese engine, CHD620 is actually a licenced-manufactured version of the German MTU396 engine. https://www.defensemirror.com/news/35501/Chinese_Submarine_Engine_is_a_Licensed_produced_German_Powerplant__Thai_Navy_Chief And the German engine is no longer in production. Production of all MTU 396 diesel engines has been discontinued from 2020 as well that makes Chinese-style submarines equipped with diesel engine propulsion MTU16V396SE84 such as Type 039A/B/C/D (NATO) diesel-electric attack (SSK) submarines (class coded Yuan) built after this will have to be replaced with a CHD620V16H6 diesel engine. https://defense-studies.blogspot.com/2023/08/china-completes-certification-for.html -
Trumps policies make inflation the lowest since 2021

Oh, you want the entire Biden regime? That inflation was "Trump(45) Overhang." -

That's not how this works. Inflation that occurred between the election and regime-change was caused by the anticipation of Trump's flawed policies, what we would term the "Trump Undercut." -

Wait! Isn't that supposed to be the "Biden Overhang"? If not, does that mean we've passed the point where we can blame Biden (or whoever was actually running the regime!) when inflation zooms up next month? -

If I 'member correct, the contract called for German engines, but Germany prevented transfer to China. Meanwhile China had been making and selling exact copies under license from the German manufacturer. A previous Thai government wanted to cancel and have frigates delivered instead. Last government agreed to having Chinese engines, but most recent government reversed that decision. This is just a final court ruling from Germany, not really affecting the current contract. I expect Thailand will eventually agree to having the Chinese manufactured Germn-designed engines installed, as these are the same engines in the same subs China has been selling elsewhere, including Pakistan. Seems Pakistan is satisfied with the subs, as well as the recent performance of Chinese jet fighters and missiles, so this should be a non-issue. -

Unrelated. We buy things in later transactions incurring sales tax. The targets of this tax just want to keep their cash. That's just petty. -

Yes, 'refundable' tax credits that can reduce your tax bill below zero resulting in a refund. I doubt this tax will fall in that category. -

Big Beautiful Expat Tax

These are allegedly employed immigrants, sending their already-taxed income back to their families. They've supposedly already paid their fair share. If the point is to increase revenue, they won't make it easy to get the credit. If they can limit it to a maximum of tax due, they keep the surplus, unless carried over to the following year. -

Trump just surrendered to Xi, lowering the tax on American consumers to "only" 30%. What's the tax on gifted 747's? -

Why would a direct refund be more likely? I suspect this will be more like the tax credit for foreign taxes paid that may be used ONLY if you have tax due. This is targeted at evil, stinky immigrants with the purpose being to prevent/reduce remittances to home countries. Expect an executive order banning WISE and other transfer agents, unless the tax is deducted at transfer.
