  1. Can you tell us whats so bad about the new Sim City? I was thinking of getting it

From what I have read the AI is not so hot for the cars and people in the city. Constant connection to the internet upsets many and the area size in which to build your city is not big enough so you constantly have to rearrange it all.

I have not played it though. I may try it out when it finally reaches the Mac soon.

  2. Sadly it really does lack in content and some of what it lacks it really should not. That is why jailbreaking is recommended. You can get content that is not legally available in the store and it is not your fault Apple did not put it there.

Usually what you see in shops like B2S, Boomerang is on the Thai iTunes store also but anything else and it is most likely not there. For example I wanted a game for iPad called 'Dragon Flight'. It was not in the Thai store so my iPad, being jailbroken, meant I pirated it. I would have bought it if I could but I couldn't.

You don't need to jailbreak anything to listen to music or watch video. But you do need to jailbreak to steal apps...

Apologies, I misread this. For video I had an AVI file I wanted to watch on my iPad, converting it through iTunes would take time so, because my iPad was jailbroken I used an application I installed on the iPad to make the iPad 'see' the AVI file so I could play it. That could be classed as a legitimate reason for jailbreaking a device instead of just pirating things for free.

DaveBKK - Completely right, piracy is stealing, I admit to doing it occasionally, if the App store had free trials or time limited demos then maybe the number of pirates would decrease? But now, with most major apps (especially games) being freemium, whether you download it from the App store or pirate it, you still have to pay real money to progress through the game and get the better things. Whilst I do not condone piracy sometimes it is easier to do in certain circumstances (such as licensing restrictions and such). Piracy can also be beneficial, Microsoft have said they would rather people pirate their software than their competitors and then they (Microsoft) can work on persuading those who pirated it to purchase a legal version.

To answer the original question, in terms of music, there are some albums I could not find on the Thai store and so I would get directed to the US or UK store instead.

  3. Currently, if rumours are to be believed, Sir Johnathon Ives biught tons of Nike watches back in the 90s which could suggest Apple has had the watch market in its sights for some time but is only now at the stage to progress. Also, again just rumours, there are indeed iWatch prototypes running a 'full blown iOS' which could prove hard to use on such a small screen unless Siri is improved and used on it. The Pebble is something I have followed for some time, it is the only Kickstarter project I have backed and I needed a new watch anyway.

Apparently it should ship to me here in Thailand (free worldwide shipping) starting March 18th. I will let you know what I think of it if you are interested.

  4. I was hoping that there would be some on topic discussion in this thread about this new product. I'll just let myself out then.

As the smartwatch craze hots up I have purchased, through Kickstarter, a Pebble watch. I liked the idea of it and I am hoping it takes off. It was only a matter of time before Apple were mentioned to be working on the same thing.

  5. Buddy, you say you have an online account with a Thai bank. They should be able to create for you an online shopping card which is basically a credit card linked to your debit account. The number and details are provided by the bank and you enter them, as you would any normal card details, and it deducts money from your debit card. It works fine for me with Kasikorn.

  6. The PS4 reveal was interesting but nothing really special, the controller looked unfinished, like it was from a 3rd party. It will be interesting to see what Microsoft does now in response. Not all gamers want social connectivty and not all gamers have access to a super fast internet connection at all times. If the 360 successor requires internet at all times to play games (and no second hand games) then it would fail over here due to the poor internet speeds.

When Sony said (in the PS4 reveal) that you could stream games as they were downloading, I imagined how that would be here. It would be quite painful.

  7. I would suggest upgrade an SSD + HDD Caddy case like below. You got the speed and storage minus the Optical drive.

This is what I did to my Macbook Pro 13" (2011)

Let me know if you need help on this. I am around CM.

Could I do that with my mid-2010 13-inch MBP? I rarely use the optical drive so I would love to do something along the same lines as the above and just use an external optical drive as and when needed.

  8. Just moved to Bangkok a week ago and got the Gevey sim at MBK to unlock my US (AT&T) locked iPhone 4.

It took the person at MBK several tries to get it to work. I suggest getting a pre-pay sim card from the start, then switch it to a post-pay later if you want. But after a couple of hours at MBK, I had an iPhone 4 that was able to make/receive calls as well as access EDGE & 3G data network.

A couple of days later, while I still had a True signal and could make phone calls, I had lost the data network and had no EDGE or 3G. I did a reboot and went through the initialization steps for the Gevey sim and everything was back to working order. Again, yesterday, I lost the EDGE/3G access and had to reboot once again.

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I did some online research and want to know if entering the APN for True will eliminate this problem. Or, is there an easier way to get back the data signal without going through all the Gevey steps, since I never lose the phone signal.

Using a gevey SIM on D-Tac, my friend had the same issues with their iPhone 4 so much so that they just got another unlocked phone from Thailand instead (original was from the US). It was so frustrating watching the phone constantly loose signal in some way and then it took ages to reinitialise the gevey SIM following the steps given which meant the phone was useless and, as said, I took it to a shop and even they had issues with it.

  10. I have no idea if 30k is realistic. I just thought that because it has the Applecare warranty still then it means it is worth more than normal as the warranty itself is expensive and also because the specs have been maxed out for hard drive and RAM. I paid 40k for it when I purchased it.

I am looking at upgrading to a 13-inch quad core MBP/laptop.

Thanks for all your advice and replies.
