  1. Just to think that in about 20 years from now, there will be a puff piece about the derelict Bali Hai condo in Pattaya.
  2. Not on a 5 month overstay I'm afraid. I recall if one made it safely to the airport with a wedge sufficient for the maximum overstay fine, you were allowed to escape while being caught while travelling on overstay afforded no such benefit. When they rejigged the penalties and bans for overstaying, did that 'loophole' disappear? Maybe he mistakenly thought he could do a cheap border hop and "extend" his Thai adventure? As for still having money, we really don't know what his nest egg or budget was, but I am sure @Celsius can advise on the latter as he seems quite obsessed with the habits of the south Asian monger.
  3. You just shush now, you're getting @Celcius all aroused.
  4. The more I travel, the less enamoured I am with airports and layovers. The IAH-NRT flight was a godsend when I was living in the US and working in Vietnam. My poor opinion of Qatar economy cattle cars to the UK is tempered by their thankfully shortish Doha layovers. A couple of ~6 hour flights back-to-back with just enough time to change gates is almost perfect. Before the Ukraine ruckus queered their pitch, Finnair's +11 hour non-stop in Business Class was great with KLM's similarly lengthy jaunt via Hamsterjam a close second even in Coach as that's a decent airport to kick back for a few hours. My 'trick' for long haul flights is to stay awake as long as possible in the 24-hours before departure. Check-in, board and drag yourself to your window seat but tell the crew supervisor you do NOT want to be wakened up to eat. I'm fast asleep before push back and awake and refreshed well before the serial movie, nap and a crap breakfast crowd block up the bathrooms before landing. Airplanes are for sleeping in, but you need to be tired. Airports are for passing through, but you need to be wide awake.
  5. Forget about what @bkk6060 said, where were the 'facts' in your puerile comment? (rhetorical)
  6. So a grown woman that is the victim of rape isn't left with "psychological trauma for all her life, with consequences which we men can barely imagine"? All rapists, regardless of the age of the victim, should get the same punishment.
  7. Oh look! Here's the ever-helpful @Nick Carter icp again!
  8. All right bob, what have you gone and done now?
  9. You hang around the knocking shops watching the guys? I see.
  10. I took it to be the smart cars Nah... it definitely says "operations" and "X-ray scans" so I reckon they may have been playing doctors and nurses?
  11. Jeez that's a bit rough Ben. Where do you come from again?
  12. Why didn't you take this up with the insurance company? These roaming loss adjusters are not direct employees of the insurance company, they are agency staff and most are on-call for different insurance companies. If the guy attending the accident is a lightweight, incompetent or easily intimidated by the cops, call the insurance company (not their hot line either). PS: Why did you stop so quickly?
  13. What has low, Russian bucket shop airfares got to do with a guy running out of money and exemplary Thai hospitality?
  14. OK, slipping into my usual role of Thai apologist here, excellent care and compassion shown by TAC, the Phuket Tourist Police, and staffers at Phuket International Airport in making this guy's extended stay as comfortable as possible, including treatment at a local hospital and ALL at no extra cost too. Now, back to our regular hating programming.
  15. Yes, it's the culture here. No, it's the culture. The culture is more to blame. It's the culture. Correct.
  16. The first picture is of the re-entry permit desk AFTER you have gone up the Zone 2 escalator, gone through security, gone down the escalator and TURNED RIGHT before the passport control lines. The second picture is taken through the glass BEFORE you have gone up the Zone 2 escalator, gone through security, gone down the escalator and TURNED RIGHT and before the passport control lines.
  17. It doesn't stop you going on holiday at all. It stops you from leaving your car sitting for an excessive amount of time in a space-pressured car park.
  18. If you're in Thailand for more than 180 days, yes it's taxable at a rate commensurate with how much it is. No real benefit in getting it in your Thai bank account early as far as I can see.
  19. Most toxic? Hardly. The youth are waiting for an app to show them how to rule. It's either that or they're waiting for AI to help them out.
  20. Yes, it's called a coup by stealth. Previous interventions required tanks and got a bit messy to manage with interim 'security' governments and other tosh. This way, they save themselves a lot of time and money and (to them) it 'looks better'.
  21. 71000 baht actually Then there are deductions for being above a certain age, being married, children at home, caring for oldies, etc.. Play your cards right and the RD will owe you money!
  22. One can always make it more than a 2-country option. Plenty to see and do in a third country and eliminate falling foul of any 180-day rules anywhere.
