Both National Police Chief And ‘Big Joke’ Transferred To PM’s Office
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The PM's office appears to be the new hub of inactivity. The last time Surachate is believed to have stepped on someone's toes, he was transferred to the then PM's inner sanctum, only to pop out about 16 months later, all squeaky clean and heading up all sorts of high-profile crime investigations all over the shop. During that time, nobody cared to guess who he had managed to upset. At the same time, nobody ever heard anything about Sukvimol who ultimately got the top cop job. I recall that during the impasse between the elections and Srettha finally getting the nod, he was being criticised about a public comment he made that suggested that these police appointments are influenced by the government, both national and local. It was along the lines of 'You get the cops that you ask for' rather than the cops that you need. This apparently contradicts the laws and constitution and whatever other bit of Thailand's political hokum that whimsically suggests that the police leaders are promoted and assigned on their individual merits. -

You're simply recycling a trope. Now, how about National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Torsak Sukwimon? If the deputy earns 'ridiculous amounts of money', what does his superior 'earn'? -

So, are you going to submit an application to rejoin the FB Isaan farang fossil club under a new moniker and work earnestly on your need to foment insurrection? I hope so. -
First British passport for second child: DNA test?
NanLaew replied to NanLaew's topic in Q&A, Ask the Consular Team
That's how I read it. The birth certificate for the young lad has me identified in the appropriate boxes, same as the supporting documentation that we used for the oldest lad's passport application. Probably, Google algorithms are placing emphasis on DNA testing and British passports because more users with plans to immigrate to the UK are searching specifically for British passport requirements, including immigration. -
First British passport for second child: DNA test?
NanLaew replied to NanLaew's topic in Q&A, Ask the Consular Team
Thanks for the effort. I did Google and top-order links suggested that a request for DNA testing was a possibility. This is why I asked for recent, 'real life' experiences. Yes, we have all the same paperwork for the youngster as we had for the older son so no doubts in our household. The oldest lad obtained his first British passport when he was around 5 years old, and back then, there was no question of a DNA test being required or even being an option. My oldest lad's first passport was issued over ten years ago here in Thailand, and no additional DNA hoops were needed to be jumped through back then, not even mentioned. Recent? Ever since Theresa May was Home Secretary, the UK's immigration bars have been ratcheted up, and this includes those who simply want a family summer holiday and visit family. -

How on earth do you handle the social stigma of THAT admission? The admin of a FB group? -

Not the old German with a surfboard who I tried to chat with while waiting for the hotel minivan at Bali airport last month. Ended up we could almost converse in Bulgarian, but it was bloody torture. There was also an enclave of crusty Gott im himmel sorts out in Nongplalai (north of Pattaya) who occupied a pub and if any non-Germans happened to drop by, they all went into silent scowl mode. They used to come to my wife's restaurant, point at the picture of what they wanted on the menu and rattle off the German words for it. No English, no Thai, only German. Oh yes, they drank Archa. -

Say no more! Those are exactly the conditions I am looking for in a place when thinking about moving. Hopefully with the added bonus that @brianthainess doesn't live anywhere near you. -

Halfway between Nong Khai and Bueng Kan. Ahh, way over there in West Jesus. I see. The OP can always join the Udon Map forum and play keyboard callisthenics with some of the more professional Isaan blow hards. Are you trying to be funny? -
I will be renewing the British passport for my first Thai-born son next month, who is now 15 years old. I will also be applying for a first child's British passport for his little brother, also born in Thailand, aged 6 years old. A quick internet surf mentions DNA testing, which appears to be linked to first-time child passport applicants as well as those seeking to emigrate from foreign countries to the UK. Since the marital status with my Thai wife and mother of our boys is unchanged (we continue to live together under the same roof), and we do not seek to move to the UK, will HMPO seek a DNA test as part of the young one's first British passport application? It looks like things may have changed, but any actual recent experience on applying for a first British passport for a child born in Thailand of British/Thai parentage would be good. Thanks! NL

UK passport renewal - supporting documents

Not all UK banks have got around to closing accounts with non-UK domiciled addresses. My understanding is Lloyds is one bank that doesn't mind where you actually live. It can also depend on the type of account. Opening a new UK bank account without extra proof of a UK address or domicile is pretty much impossible these days. -

Apart from their mental capacity of these two delinquents, since when has a 36 and 38 years-old ever qualified as being 'kids'?
