Speaking Thai - is it necessary these days for an expat ?
NanLaew replied to The Cobra's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Good to know, thanks. It's still a pity he wastes so much of his precious remaining minutes in Thailand yakking in English on anonymous internet forums. -
Good observation, but I would say they have no political metrics to help them understand the difference. They have never experienced anything other than serial despotic manipulations dressed up in fancy rhetoric and hyperbole, such as their 'special democracy' nonsense. The political mechanisms of other countries are pretty much an alien concept. You've got that right as well, and it's not going to be allowed to improve for at least another 50 years.

Ah yes, the infamous 'hanging chad' affair and the loser that 'invented the internet'. Fun times, eh?

Whereas, Trump is a liability. Hobson's Choice. May the best man not win.

I'm finally quiting baked beans, price is ridiculous
NanLaew replied to scubascuba3's topic in Western Food in Thailand
Good regional and UK cost comparison, but you need to factor in travel costs if you really, really, REALLY need to go get some baked beans. But whoever you chose to fly with to Asda, don't fly Austrian. They are absolutely bloody awful! -
I have a couple of perfectly good but not SMART televisions at home and I was wondering which would be the best option to get some alternative viewing. I see that both Firestick and Chromecast are available locally (on lazada as well) but since I am in the UK at the moment, maybe get one or the other here? I only have a Netflix account and an infrequent viewer of BBC iPlayer. I don't have Amazon Prime, don't spend a lot of time on YouTube or other services. I appreciate that configuring a VPN will be required for some streams so is one easier to configure over the other? Thanks, NL

My youngest got top marks at school with the only admonishment being for his English-speaking skills. His teacher spoke to Mrs NL and suggested that since dad is a native English speaker, he should speak more English with his son. Mrs NL set her right and said the lingua franca at home is Lao and that includes dad. If I do ask him a question in English, he answers in Lao. When he rarely asks me a question or tries to converse in English, I will answer in Lao as he will both will understand that quicker. Yeah, it's that darned farang's fault again! -
Just another bloody holiday to knock scheduled funds transfers from overseas into a cocked hat. Last week it was Easter bank holiday in the UK, this week it's Chakri Day here. Next week, it's sodding Songkran.

Nope, it's after at BKK too, same location though. It changed recently, it's got the red tape across the entrance now and tell you to clear immigration first then take a left. That may have been temporary? I got a re-entry permit at BKK a couple of days ago, and it is back where it always used to be, east end of Immigration Hall 1 and BEFORE the immigration kiosks where you get stamped out.

Eggs and Burger are Manna. Ever have Loco Moco? Ever had a Wigan kebab?

There used to be a couple of posters on here who knew a website that estimated the revenue stream of various YouTubers, Facebookers, TikTok'ers, etc. They estimated based on the number of views, country, etc. I never really cared enough to make the effort myself, but it was sometimes interesting to see that some nimrod was pulling down big bucks on what I thought was a hobby at best. Those nimrods taking the world's gormless on virtual tours of WS and Soi Chaiaypoon are NOT "pulling down big bucks" on YouTube.

That's a pretty heated defence of retired British judges. Both houses of British parliament are chock-full of those aspiring to the higher echelons of society where their predilection for cross-dressing or feeling up blokes in men-only clubs while rubbing shoulders with respected members of the British judiciary who themselves are a little bit pished and slumming it while wearing their girlfriend's thong underwear and an aubergine stuffed up their jaxi. Some of my best friends are judges said nobody, ever.

Foreign woman criticised for urinating on Bangla Road, Phuket
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Us blokes, being blessed with "outboards", have no issues with taking a leak in public. It's way tougher for those born with "inboards" (and smaller bladders), especially in the age of Thai men with cellphones, Facebook and other havens of the 'enraged netizen'. -

6 month multiple entry tourist visa options

No body knows for sure about the details until next year. Best to wait and see. The law is in place and active. How it will be implemented is the 'wait and see' bit. -
PM Srettha: Legalise casinos to save Thailand’s economy

Asians have a serious gambling problem. More sensible and mature Asian governments find ways to earn valuable income through tax revenues from legalised gambling, while preventing access and abuse by the locals. At the moment, in Thailand, all illegal gambling is controlled by the RTP and certain social elites and I doubt this PM has the clout to change this.
