My understanding is that this source is originally from a Russian news-site that Reuters seem to have copied word for word. I would hold your horses until an official announcement comes out.

Reporting by Patpicha Tanakasempipat and Panarat Thepgumpanat; editing by John Stonestreet. So you think the thai reporters got their info from a Russian site? But it is right to be cautious

No, Khon Kaen, but from other posts I've read it seems most of the immigration offices are following similar protocol to what I experienced. Also I don't think there's any guarantee of second covid extensions being granted, if anything we "might" receive an extended amnesty under the decree. Maybe the IO was telling you to bring a letter if there if the amnesty is not extended?

I think so. But from what they say I think we can continue to push our time forward in case the additional amnesty is not given. I can't see how it would not be extended in May with most airlines non functional and borders closed. Unless they decide to kick us all back to the countries of our citizenship regardless of the situations there. The US is a complete <deleted>show and last on my list of places to go since I haven't lived there in 22 years..

Yes, I agree it can be frustrating. Personally for myself, I went to the immigration office for my follow up and just showed my passport and they stamped me til the 28th, but said I'm now covered in that blanket visa amnesty. The process was pretty painless. I have no idea why they're asking you to bring another letter especially since most embassies do not issue them anymore.

Yes it's to get an additional covid extension after this one ends. Seems like they are pushing it to keep the income rolling even though the amnesty will probably keep rolling. Did you have a valid stamp after March 26 when you got your emergency covid extension and were you at CW?

Just to be sure, is the 23rd the follow-up for the consideration stamp where you get a final stamp.... or is that when your full Covid extension (30 days) actually expires?

It's the follow up of the under consideration stamp, but what is frustrating it that I called the national hotline and CW last week and they said since I was valid on the March 29th I didn't have to go for the follow up stamp to be validated. I wanted to be sure so called again just to be 100% since I didn't know who I actually spoke too. This person checked my file and said I had to come. However, I don't know who I was talking to and maybe she were wrong, but the first 2 didn't check my file.

Why did you ring CW again after already being told from 2 separate sources you qualified for the automatic extension?

Wanted to be sure. This woman checked my file and said I needed to report. Not sure who I have been talking to any time. I just don't want to do the wrong thing and different immigrations are applying it differently.

  6. So I spent hours trying to get in contact with CW today finally got someone and they got an English speaker. She finally went and checked my computer file and said yes I needed to report on the 23rd. She said I could then apply for another extension with another personal letter from the embassy. Of course I contacted the US Embassy via e-mail and the automated reply said they will no longer do that for people with my stamps. Tried to call US embassy emergency line, but no one will answer.

So I think we need to go to CW since we have the under consideration stamp even though we have the valid stamps for after March 26th(mine was for March 29th) since we went and did the emergency covid extensions. I called right after the amnesty was announced and both national hotline and someone at CW said I didn't have to come. Not sure who is right but need to go anyway. This is really bureaucratic hell.

So if anyone interested who is in the Under Consideration status, after catching up on the posts here since my last, I still didn't see if it was clear if I could visit the IO before my end date (21st April), so I went along this morning (11:30am) to the Chonburi, Pattaya immigration office.

TL;DR: For what seems like a no questions asked stamp (not yet sure what it will be), visit the IO on the day Under Consideration visa expires, not any earlier, but it seems for sure that Under Consideration Visa's are not part of the amnesty in the Chonburi province

First, there was no queue or anything outside, immediate entry (no surprise now), though did have to wait to cool off as my temp read 38 (that be 10 min the taxi motorbike ride there in the sun)

    • I showed the main officer (I believe he's the Captain) my Under Consideratio Visa stamp in my passport at the reception desk and he sent me to desk 6 (the one at the back), no ticket given.
    • I immediatley noticed they had put up perspex glass panels at all the desks, a much needed improvement not only for the staff's health and safety but added a more professional touch. The building has a toally different vibe when near empty.
    • I showed the IO my passport and he was about to give me a stamp within a few seconds no questions or documents asked, until he noticed my Under Consideration stamp date was 21st April. I do believe that stamp he was about to apply was going to be just a valid extension until 30th April - it wasn't an adjustable stamp, so must be fixed wording.
    • I was told to come back on the day my Under Consideration visa expires

Will update / quote this accordingly if people finding it useful. Thought I'd contribute as without these posts I would have assumed I was eligible for the waiver / amnesty renewal program!

Thanks. Nice report. What people really want to have asked of the IOs when they report for that under consideration stamp is whether people who had a valid to stay stamp that was after March 26 needed to come to get the under consideration stamp changed to valid or were they covered under the amnesty to April 30.

I will attwnd CM immigration on 24th for returning with the under consideration stamp. I will post here what my experience was, and as you say above I will clearly ask what will happen next. My under consideration stamp was for 20days not 15. Oh well I will check.

@lee b FYI, I have heard elsewhere (FB group I belong too) that CM immigration you definitely don't have to do that. The group admin lives in CM and went there personally and got all the poop on the decree/amnesty. If you PM, me I can give you the group info. In my initial reply to you, I thought you were saying CW

  10. @JackcwbaDid you ask what happens if they pass another emergency decree (the current emergency decree doesn't cover anything past April 30th)? Did you ask if you were automatically extended to April 30th if you did not get stamp to May 2nd and did not need to get the new stamp or report if you didn't want to and would be good until April 30th? The questions I think you may have needed to ask them would have needed to be very specific I think.

You should be very specific about the questions you ask.

Right so I just got back from CW see my original post for the whole story ..

arrived around 1:30 and it was empty.. went to desk and asked them if I need to fill out that awful form that is not clear at all where to fill in your info ( if you’ve been before you will know what I mean )

didn’t need any of that but she said I don’t even need to be here because it’s automatic extension until April 30 INCLUDING THOSE WHO ALSO HAVE UNDER CONSIDERATION STAMPS ***** but seeing as I’m here I can get a stamp if I’m worried... of course I got the stamp.

Please note I have seen other stories saying otherwise that under consideration people still have to attend immigration when stated.

i got my ticket number and within 10 seconds my number was called... ( I hadn’t even sat down yet )

they took about 10 mins to call me back in and I had my stamp until May 2.

i asked them will I now be automatic after May 2? ATTENTION ALL NO I AM NOT AUTOMATIC..

the cowboy made it clear if the situation is still like this after May 2 I will need to obtain a new embassy letter and the usual documents ... passport photo and photocopy and 1900 baht fee to get another month and return on May 2

the automatic extension is fake news !!!!

we still have to keep getting these pointless letters from our embassy that takes that about 4 days to respond with it...

So Get your wallet out every 30 days it’s gonna be a fun few months.

Interesting in a distressing way. However, It's not automatic 30 day extensions, but automatic extensions until the date they say. After April 30th there is still no decree so maybe that is why she said that about extending on May 2nd. For sure, it will be impossible to get more embassy letters now.

Report (think yesterday) guy obtained second extension march 26. Given under consideration. At the time his permission of stay expired March 30.

He was told recently by io that he did not need return for stamp as he previously had a POS till March 30. Importantly post march 26. Dont like his chance of a refund 1900baht.

Yeah tbh I don't care about that refund Dr.Jack. I just want to be valid and covered under the amnesty.

    @vermin on arrival

UPDATE > You called your IO (Chaeng Wattana) and they confirmed that you do not need to come back to have your under consideration stamp transferred into a permission to stay, since you are eligible for the amnesty as your permission to stay expires after 26 March.

    So no problem for you.

But those that are in the same situation as OP are advised to contact their IO, as it seems that there are some IOs that DO require that you visit them on the report-back date to have the under consideration stamp transferred into a permission to stay (takes 5 minutes).

See attached link to a post by UbonJoe re this issue >

Thanks. I may call and double check with them on Friday or next Monday just to be sure. I have some paranoid anxiety about doing the wrong thing.

I can second that. I plan to go back on April 23rd to stamp on passport. Currently, it says under consideration till April 23rd.

You see my post #13? So you don't trust the two IOs I talked to today, one at national hotline and one from CW  who said I didn't need to come since I was valid on march 29. Told me I didn't need to worry about reporting to validate the under consideration stamp. Mine also says report on April 23.

Think I may have advised you to attend imm on April 23 as you had "under consideration". Completely overlooked that you had valid permission of stay till March 29.

Surprised one of the forum experts didn't advise you re what you now know.

Thanks for update to assist others.

Could be worse than the 1900 you lost. Imagine turning up April 23 to be told not required.

Relax, have a beer. Whoops Thailand not selling.

Lol. You actually told me it could go either way for both reasons, but to go to be on the safe side. I am so stressed out that I am having trouble trusting it. Would be good to here some confirmation from tvers who have been to CW/MTT today or after just to be super safe ; )

Consideration stamp is not visa. False information.

It's not but here is my post from another thread: Well to try and confirm my situation, I called both the immigration hotline 1178 and Chaeng Wattana Immigration today. They both told me since I was legal to stay on March 29th even though I had gone on March 26 for emergency covid extension with an under consideration stamp for April 23rd that  I did not have to report on the 23rd for the final stamp, and I have an automatic extension until April 30th. Chaeng Wattana asked what passport I had and I told them US with original 30 day stay, and the women said don't worry no problem. Should I trust them or still go? Am i paranoid? Any confirmation from people going to CW?

  18. Just now, Peter Denis said:

From your report it seems that IO takes the 'sensible approach' because of your VisaExempt entry with a permission to stay till March 30.

And since you meet the amnesty criteria your permission to stay is automatically extended till April 30 (and will probably be prolonged).

Their reasoning will most probably be that it was - on hindsight - not necessary for you to apply for the emergency extension which provided you with the under consideration stamp till April 23.

So given that double IO confirmation and the fact that you meet the amnesty criteria, it is fairly certain that you can ignore the report-back date, as you are already covered under the amnesty.

Thanks man. I am so stressed out now I just needed some confirmation from an intelligent and informed observer that I was good to not go. Have a great day : )
