To all Americans reading this thread: I just called the embassy and they asked for me to send a copy of my bio data page and they will write personal letters. I don't know if this will help us when we go to Chaeng Wattana since it will not be notarized. Seems like the emergency decree of the 18th does not apply there.

No longer appointments at the US embassy and appears people are being told they need to get a notarized letter that they have paid for.

Good that you report that. Wonder what all that posted it was impossible to get the embassy´s to issue such a letter have to say now????
Thanks!People are being denied with those letters since they are standard ones and not personal ones, even with e-mail correspondence with the embassy. Best they are getting seems to be 7 days.

Yes, 4% not 13% pretty simple math
Yes when looking at the total cases that have not run there course it is like 4%. However, the closed case fatality rate is currently 13%, which is alarming. It had dropped to around 6% and then shot up as it exploded in Europe and the US.

Where are healthy people, with no respiratory problems dying?
Maybe several percent who have other underlying health conditions have died.
Have not heard of any healthy person dying
The news is out there. I can only mention certain cases I have read about but for sure it is there. A 47 year old paramedic died in Italy, always wore protective gear and no underlying health conditions. 37 year old civil guard died in Spain. Just read of a girl in her 20s dying for sure it is happening.

Thanks for the updates joe “ cannot contact Eva air seems phone lines constantly busy ! Worried about returning to the u.k - originally here on SETV due for renewal next month .... will play it by ear and I’m sure everything will work out in the end ???? thanks for the update
Yes Eva is constantly busy. The hour long wait for phone contact them made me miss the last flight I could get into Taiwan on March 18 with all the evening flights canceled and the only available one after midnight. They hadn't even been notified of the travel ban-I had to read them the article from an English language Taiwanese newspaper. They called me back after the office closed when I was in the shower. I called back immediately, but the office was closed and then no message, e-mail or additional call from them. I should have just ran to the airport and sorted it out there. I will probably pass on them next time.

Justin case- I just received that letter in an email. Don't think U.S. embassy is mailing individual letters. Can only hope it flys-
There are no individual letters coming from US Embassy as per my e-mail received last night which included the standard letter. They were saying the e-mail communication with the embassy was needed as well. I hope for many people's sake that the stand alone standard letter will work. It took just 2(or3?)days for them to get back to me with the letter after I contacted them via the website contact us.

I explained to them that my flight to Taiwan which I would be using to exit Thailand could not be used because because the nation was closed to foreign non-residents since the 19th, that I could not go to countries in the region due to border closures the next day, and that going home was fraught with difficulties since my brother's house was in quarantine and my elderly and infirm parents with whom I live when I am in the States are in complete seclusion so I could not stay with them.
There was no e-mail address just a part of the website to use to contact them and send a message.

Attention All Americans Reading This Thread. I just received an e-mail reply from my message to the US Embassy website late Thursday afternoon. They sent me a form letter to show Thai Immigration. They said that a number of people were able to obtain extensions by showing a copy of the standard letter and the e-mail correspondence with the Embassy. I recommend contacting the Embassy by it's website ASAP. I will try my luck at CW on Tuesday.

Do you have an emergency, for example because your flight out of Thailand has been cancelled or is delayed and no alternative flight or other mode of transportation can be arranged in time before the expiration of your current permission to stay?
For me the emergency would be I would probably be forced to fly to the US which is covid <deleted> storm, with my brother in quarantine and my elderly and infirm parents in seclusion so I wouldn't have home to go to. Would they consider that an emergency? No? So then I need to pick a country any country to fly to if they would accept me? And probably not be able to come back due new health and medical insurance requirements.

Clause 3 of Memorandum 0029.161/W 916 applies, for example, to foreigners whose embassy refuses the emergency certification letter required for an extension under clause 2.28 of Police Order 327/3557. This would be for foreigners, regardless whether they entered with any type of visa or visa-exempt, who do not qualify for any other type of extension and who have an emergency, for example because the flight out of Thailand is cancelled or delayed and no alternative flight or other mode of transportation can be arranged in time before the expiration of the current permission to stay.
So then for clause 3 if there is any other flight out of Thailand they can take to another country nobody qualifies, so you can pretty much deny most everyone. Therefore, we must have the embassy letter.

My understanding is Phuket can be tougher immigration district. Let's hope for better in CW

You can qualify under 2 or 3 if you cannot leave the country.
One person here said that since flights are still going to his home country, the US, he was denied extension on Friday. He also did not have a canceled flight ticket in his possession. I guess the crucial word here is can. Do you think next week their may be more leniency?

USA on a 30 day exempt that I already extended for 30 days. They ask me for my flight ticket out and to show it was cancelled. Since I hadn't booked a flight yet I could not show them a cancelled flight and because there are flights to the USA it was a no go.
I still have some time on my exempt, so Im weighing my options.
That's terrible news. I am in the same situation. However, I have a ticket, but not proof of cancellation. However, Taiwan has shut it's doors to foreigners since midnight the 19th, but I don't know if they will view that as the same as cancellation. Also, sorry to hear that happened to you.

You guys in in for a rude awakening as I went through this on Friday:
For People on Tourist Visas:
You can only get this extension if you already had a flight booked out of the country that has been cancelled, or if there are no flights available out of Thailand to your own country.
This is the only way to get the extension, not I don't want to go home, not I'd rather stay in Thailand, not it's too expensive for me to travel, etc.
What is your nationality and you were here on what visa?

If you can get a letter from your embassy, you will qualify under category 2. Otherwise, you will need to plead your case under category 3, probably resulting in the application being taken under consideration with a report back date 7 days later (30 days being given if successful).
The US embassy doesn't give letters.

@ubonjoe is CW our only option here in BKK or might we be able to go elsewhere? I really am not looking forward to going there for a variety of reasons.

Hi, I am on a 30 day visa extension and going for another 30 day extension tomorrow. I got my original 30 day extension at Changwattana. Does anyone know could I go to another immigration office (Nonthaburi) to get the next extension as I know there will be thousands of people at Changwattana tomorrow which I would prefer to avoid for a number of reasons. Any advice would be very much appreciated!
I think Nonthaburi is only for people residing in that district. I wanted to use it a year or two ago and a friend of mine said it was not possible.

BACK TO THE ORIGINAL TOPIC: Has this successfully worked for anyone? Can anyone share their successful experience?
Yes thank you. I will go Tuesday, and will also report. I think it will be crazy when you go there.

The page with the photo and personal information to [email protected] . Having said that, I don't know if it will work as CW was demanding notarized/paid for letters, and the embassy is closed for appointments.
