My thanks to you Crossy for the link above. tried to search for it in my browser and also inserted above URL in Google and could not find. Thankfully clicked on your link above  and got it.

I too was p*ssed of when ThaiExpat told me I had to change over after first promising that the UKTV player could still be used. Now with your help have got it back. Has many more

channels than before though no sports channels.

The only problem I see is that you can record a program but you cannot watch it back. This was a much superior version than the EXpatTV especially when they removed the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

Pity that I can't play back a recording. But it is free so can't complain.

I double click to watch the programme from the beginning, but whilst I get an image for a nano second, thereafter it's only audio. What am I not doing correctly?

UKTV.webtv.to  is very similar to expattv, but FREE and its working.

    regards Worgeordie

Thanks. I downloaded, but when I play a programme it starts with a picture for a nano second, and then only audio. Is there a magic key that I need, or am I just being dim?

  3. BBC 1, BBC 4, CBBC, CBeebies, ITV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, CH4, Film4, CH5, pick**, BBCNews, BBC World News

are up this morning. Missing from my package are:

BBC 2, E4, More 4, CNN, Y, NHK, SKY News, Australian TV

**pick is a new one, but doesn't make up for the missing channels. Happily surprised that some have all their package channels back, so maybe hope that I too will be in that happy position.

I too noticed the NBTC announcement last week, (or more ago) on Richard Barrow's twitter, but ThaiExpat TV wasn't included in the list.

Again, just a small notice on their website would be helpful, even if they are not sure of the specifics, as there is no one answering the phone.

First thing: a blue house book has nothing to do with house or land ownership. The blue book is part of the Thai civil registration system. It is quite possible to have an empty blue book with nobody registered to the address. Equally it is possible to have several people registered in a blue book, none of which own the property.

The owner of a property is listed on the rear of the title deed, as are any encumbrances. It's very obvious if you know what you are looking at, but equally all of the writing is in Thai.

If someone is interested in buying land then get them to ask for a copy of the chanote. Take it to the Land Office and ask the staff if everything is correct.

Can you please explain to me what the purpose is of the blue book. I have a title deed with my name registered, but no blue book has ever been issued for the original owner, (developer), and the owner prior to me. So three "owners", all on the title deed, but no blue book. I have been elected on to the committee at the condo, and there is a suggestion that instead of the title deed, I need to produce the blue book. Will find out if the Land Department say so, but curious if anyone can enlighten me if that is likely, or indeed what other purpose there is for the book. Many thanks.

  5. I am always happily surprised at the large variety of what is available foodwise, in Central Food Hall for example, (OK it's more Western orientated), ditto Villa supermarkets. CFH has a much larger variety (of international food items) than its equivalent in UK, such as Waitrose, Sainsbury's etc.

That said, there are a couple of non food items I struggle to find - silver polish (cream), but it does sporadically come into stock from Wright's for the water mixed paste, and Hob Brite, (to clean the stove/hob top). Both I buy from Amazon or Ebay.

  6. I normally find taxi drivers in Bangkok to be good to very good, but the last two evening taxis I have taken to go out to dinner on a Friday and Saturday night at around 8.30 pm - called by my security from the main road to the condo - have been nightmares. The first had a cloth over the meter, which we didn't notice until we came to pay and it showed THB99 for a trip of 5 minutes. The second, last night wanted to go the wrong way, and then having explained how to get to the address we wanted, went to the wrong street, again another 5 minute distance of travel. We asked him to stop, and got out and walked, but not before loads of abuse and shouting by the driver, which was quite scary, despite paying him the full fare. Perhaps I've just been unlucky, but my antennae is reading all sorts of sinister disgruntled behaviour into it. I hope it's not a trend. The DLT app, as mentioned, doesn't work.

Just turn them all into giant air conditioned relaxation spas for the everyone, with free wifi and comfy seats- I mean that is what most people use them for isn't it.

I think online shopping is fast becoming the way forward. I wish you could get online grocery shopping here. It is a personal bugbear of mine and wish there was an alternative to Big C and co. The wet market is fine for daily stuff but spending an afternoon doing the monthly shop in those awful places ...urrrgh.

    Online grocery  shopping  anyone??

    tops online

    villa online

    lotus online

  8. I spent the majority of Songkran under self-imposed "house arrest", with daily visits to my pool. I did venture out on Saturday evening at around 7 pm to a nearby park via Suan Phlu, to alleviate the cabin fever that had been building up over the preceding days. Was doused on the way there, wrung out my tee shirt, walked around the park, and was doused on the way back, wrung our my tee shirt, (aka wash, rinse, repeat). Boredom alleviated. Resulting discussions at home upon our return and after thoroughly scrubbing clean what might have been in the water, resulted in a desire to "definitely go away next year", the refrain that we usually leave unfulfilled. But, has anyone ever been to say Phnom Penh over Songkran, and is it less crazy? There was a slightly sinister element of quite drunk Thais on the pavement on Suan Phlu, dancing to loud musak outside a 7-11, and I was quite relieved to run that gauntlet unscathed; there was a young (mid teens) farang girl in the gang, who also appeared to be high, so I hope there were no tears.

Yes, I'm one of the grumpy old men; happy that the water sports thrill children of all ages, but only wish there was an opt out, if one so chose, and that was not only achievable by "house arrest". Any friends who ever suggested coming over here during Songkran have usually been put off by my unbiased description of what they should expect getting around in areas with which they might not be familiar, (the wet zones etc). It's more than slightly tiresome to arrive at dinner in an airconditioned restaurant when you're wet through to the skin.

  9. Wow! Can we hire you to sort out or building's requirements?!

You certainly seem to know what you're talking about. I don't, and trying to relay these issues through the building manager, True, myself, the construction logistics (as in internal lines etc) is a Gilbert & Sullivan production. This afternoon's (dress rehearsal performance) of phones being passed between my building's technician, the True sub-contractor the building manager (away at Savill's for a meeting) was as  exhausting as it was comical.

  10. My ADSL was cut yesterday morning. I had been given some notice, (not that they would cut it), but that they were offering a new fibre optic cable service, "now available in my condo". Unfortunately our building doesn't have fibre optic cable, which I explained to True the first time they came here about 3 months ago. The fixed the ADSL signal. Then the service had a disruption about 2 weeks ago, and again a couple of scruffs turned up to install fibre optic cable for my internet. Same problem, obviously. They fixed the ADSL signal. So yesterday after an hour of so of discussion with True and with my building manager, True accepted that fibre optic cable was not possible in our building. They would however come to install a fibre cable for internet, which I could receive through a TV aerial; I already have one for my internet TV in the bedroom. But I wanted another in my home office. The only way was to install a fibre cable from the core of the building through the corridor ceiling, through my party wall, through my apartment's ceiling etc etc. So that didn't happen. I have now arranged for them to install a "repeater" in my office, which will feed off the existing fibre cable.

So yes, they are just cutting ADSL without notice of doing exactly that. I have also decided to increase the Mpbs from 18 to 30 or 50 from the existing fibre cable, hoping that will permit the transmission to be strong enough to run both TV and internet simultaneously in two different rooms of my apartment, which are separated by a further bedroom in between. Any other recommendations of what might work better will be appreciated.

I am tempted to try another service. Any suggestions?

The True CS claimed yesterday they were trying to fix the ADSL, but it would take some time, (unspecified), and so I would be better using the new fibre cable. Obviously they have no intention of fixing. I can only use this internet in the office because the signal from the bedroom's fibre cable is accessible, but 3 bars instead of 5, and download streaming in the office for torrents on my laptap is putting a strain on the whole thing.

I left BKK this morning and after check in at around 8.30 am went straight to Priority section as I was on business. Queue was out in the main departure concourse and security check took about 20 mins. Imm was swift, but it appears the bottleneck is at security check in the Priority section; it is clearly not able to deal with the larger numbers using it, and the qualification to do so is quite wide as well as there being priorty within Priority, who cut the line.

Seemed a lot better organised on my return last night at around 11.45 pm. There were about 10-15 people in each of the 2 queues at Priority Lane, and there was a "sort of attempt" to check that people had the Priority card; But only sort of. The two gents in front of me didn't and were sent packing, but not before I moved to a new queue, just opened, in addition to another opened as I was waiting. The latter suggests they are making attempts at managing booth requirements in line with demand, (whoa!), but at the risk of sounding cynical, it's a the consistency of how this proactive management is implemented.

But a plus point is that Priority luggage was off the flight within about 20 minutes of arrival, and getting home to Sathorn within an hour of touch down all-in, is very impressive.

See my post 113 above concerning this morning

Thanks. Missed that. Sounds more promising. I'm travelling on Business anyway, but I think I read that Fast Track also had delays.

Certainly using Fast Track  (on arrival) last year was no help at all, as there were no checks as to who was eligible, and there was a large group of Chinese tourists (with their flag waver) using the facility and certainly without the FT card; unsurprisingly there was no intervention or management by IMM staff.

  14. Thanks. I assume that if I tried to do the Extension on the 22nd May (my due date), and the deposit only reached the full 3 months on the 23rd, they would not process it, and would ask me to re-submit on the 23rd, and pay the one day's fine; is that how it works? Viz, they need the 3 months and 1 or 2 days short is not going to cut it.
