  1. One instance when the plastic bag over the head might have been appropriate.
  2. I know that but the OP I was responding to didn't. Hence my post.
  3. Keeps

    New McDonald's

Should do good business from the 'munchies brigade' with that Weed shop right next door.
  4. Ha Ha. I actually responded with a suggestion for Fish and Chips and still made it on to the OP's Ignore list! Hate to think what he would do to those discussing Indian food and German buffets......
  5. Wow. Responding to a topic 11 months later and still trying to 'shoe in' an anti Brit comment. Not sure if you are bored, sad or both.
  6. Agree. Whenever I send money from my UK bank (Barclays) to Thai Kasikorn, Kasikorn deduct 300 baht for their 'fee'.
  7. I would stick to using the term Fish and Chip shop if I were you. Otherwise, people may be confused regarding what you are actually looking for.... usually chippie slang, disapproving. a. : a woman who has multiple sexual partners : a woman who is sexually promiscuous. b. : a woman who engages in sex acts and especially sexual intercourse in exchange for pay : a woman who is a sex worker.
  8. I know that but the OP has never said he wants/needs a new UK bank account from what I have read. He wants a financial outlet that will allow him to deposit funds and subsequently transfer amounts to his Thai bank in the event of an issue with his current UK bank. An international bank account may be a solution to his problem.
  9. I had an upper molar extraction undertaken in Chiang Mai end of November at private clinic. The tooth had split in half and couldn't be repaired. X-ray, injection, extraction, dressings and pain meds. Came to 1,000 baht all in.
  10. Lastly, an article from Which? detailing which banks will allow you to keep your UK account as an overseas expat. It's a bit out of date (November2023) but I would imagine the majority of the information is still applicable:- https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/which-banks-allow-you-to-keep-your-account-as-an-expat-aIiEs1i49WTf
  11. HSBC seem to offer an expat bank account:- https://www.expat.hsbc.com/international-banking/products/bank-account/
  12. Do you mind sharing which UK Bank you currently have an account with? I believe that some will allow you to maintain an account as long as a certain level of funds are held within certain products. For instance, Barclays have their International Banking arm:- https://international.barclays.com/campaign/uk-bib/?cid=mm04soc_sc17bib_ppc_may_refreshppcgeneric_international_account&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5ZLsq8vmigMVkaRQBh2KTgZYEAAYAiAAEgJGsPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds It does not state anywhere that you need to be a UK resident to have this account. In fact, I noticed the following under the 'Important Information' section:- For guidance on rules governing your use, please contact a legal adviser. In particular, this site is not directed to, or intended for use by, residents of the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan or India. I would take from this that there is no problem if you are residing in Thailand. There is a minimum financial requirement of £100,000 but I would imagine they have some 'vanilla' low risk products which may match your income needs. You also mentioned a 'substantial' amount to be deposited. Other UK High Street Banks probably have similar International banking divisions. Worth speaking to an alternative to your current bank so as to not put them on alert that you will be moving overseas until such time you have a suitable arrangement in place.
  13. Pathetic. I assume from this post that you are an 8 year old girl?
  14. His comment regarding Monzo would lead me to believe it is going to be an issue going forward otherwise I would not have mentioned it.
  15. It would appear from the original post by the OP that having a UK address is going to be problematic. If that is the problem, there is little chance of opening an account with a UK High Street Bank.
  16. I can assure you that it is deep fried. From the coffee shop element of the establishment which is situated outside, you are directly looking into the kitchen and seeing all food being prepared. This includes the Fish and Chips which are deep fried separately in baskets next to each other. I have sat there and watched them prepare my meal. Why do you not take some crumbs of positivity from people's posts rather than just trying to pick holes in them and be negative? You are surprised that people then have a 'pop' at you in their responses? I suppose your posting name should give a clue to your attitude.
  17. They certainly offer takeaway as I have used this service many times myself (even including a Sunday Roast which was very good). I do not know whether they deliver via any of the food Apps. However, I seem to recall that you have 'your own' Win rider. Nothing to stop you ordering a takeaway and having your chap go and collect it for you if they do not provide an App ordering service.
  18. Why don't you get off your ar$e and go and eat somewhere? Every thread of yours states 'must deliver'. Fish and chips doesn't travel well. Once it is wrapped up it will 'steam' and become soggy very quickly. The best Fish and Chips I have had in CM (and quite possibly Thailand as I can't recall better) is from OMG at the Loy Kroh side of the Ping River next to the end of the Iron Bridge. It's around 300 baht. Choice of Cod or Haddock and served with chips, peas, bread and butter, tartar sauce, pickled gherkin, pickled onion. It is consistently excellent. I've been meaning to try the chippy at Thapae Gate (behind the Mc'Donald's) but haven't got around to it yet.
  19. As others have mentioned, Lamai could be a good fit for what you require. It has pretty much all you need regarding shopping, restaurants and accommodation and all within walking distance. Within the centre of Lamai, you are slightly restricted on accommodation if you require more than a studio apartment for long term stay. There are however bungalows/villas to be had at various price points depending on how central you want to be. A friend of mine rents a villa with shared pool and 5 minute stroll to the beach in the centre of Lamai for 18,000 per month including electric and water. If you go slightly further out (other side of the ring road) then you would comfortably find a bungalow in the 10k per month range. There is a nightlife scene and plenty of ex-pats of all nationalities. I've been visiting Lamai for 25 years (and lived there for 2 1/2 years many moons ago) and have made some fantastic friends. It's a pretty laid back area. Of course it has a large number of holidaymakers but there are plenty of long term stayers who are, in the main, a friendly bunch and very welcoming of newcomers.
  20. First couple of lines of first post. Yawned and then gave up.
  21. That is a very UNtraditional Cornish pasty recipe. Some Cornish locals get very anal about what is allowed in a pasty. A true pasty should only have small cubed beef, cubed potato and swede (I think it's called yellow turnip or something in the US) onion, salt and pepper. A Cornish pasty is crimped at the side as per BMT's picture. A Devon pasty is crimped at the top. They were traditionally eaten by miners as they were robust, easy to carry and you could eat the majority of it and then throw away the crust which in parts would be covered in coal dust from holding it. The Bedforshire clanger is a similar idea but one end was savoury and the other end sweet so you had a meal all in one.
  22. I knocked one out in bed today. The other patients on the ward didn't look too happy about it.
  23. That appears to be a guess at best? I need something more concrete or I could suffer an untimely demise. Should I risk it? I really need the assistance of a Quality Street expert.
  24. Does anyone know which flavour this one is?
  25. Perhaps he was celebrating being first in the queue for bread. Back in the homeland he could have been 1017th in the queue with a further 3 day wait. Wouldn't you have been celebrating under those circumstances?
