Whilst on this thread although a slightly different thread.
If I hire a maid, gardener etc and their work is not up to scratch even though they are paid well, is there a good way to get rid without them losing face and being offended without the normal pissed off through not having that job?

I am sure farangs get ripped off in Thailand, brits get ripped off in britain all the time, we don't go around saying all brits ars bastards though.
Recently I was in Phuket with a hire car, we were cruising the Island when our battery in the rental car went flat outside a garage around Kathu, some 30 miles from where we were staying.
Whilst trying to phone someone to help a Thai guy in the a Volvo off roader pulled up to get fuel, he saw me with my head under the bonnet and came to ask if he could help.
I explained what had happened, he phoned someone and told me to wait ten minutes, he then drove off.
Ten minutes later two Thai Muslims turned up with jump leads and started the car, I then asked how much they wanted and the answer was nothing. Needless to say they gat a great tip.
Would that happen in the UK, not a bleeding chance, you would have sucking of teeth, a £60 tow charge and the price of a new battery.
All humans are the same, some are gits, most are good, it is a shame the gits get all the press.

Sorry forgot to add, vets will recomend that the animal is less than 5 years for a retriever, older than that and they won't adapt to the heat and will really suffer.

My wife wanted to start a dog breeding business in Chiangmai. So we bought the most expensive goldon retriever from the most expensive kennel in chiangmai ,and guess what a month later it started walking badly .After six visits to 4 different vets we got a diagnosis which agreed with mine, hip displacia. Not giving up we went to the 700 year old stadium dog show to find a better breeder ,and bought another dog who seems fine only problem is when we took lilly back to the kennel for a visit we noticed one of her brothers has hip displacia.Hence we cannot breed from either dog although they cost 25,000 bht,and we spent 10,000 on vet bills.
We have decided to import dogs with hip scores from england. Can anyone give me any advice that might help
Yes you can import, you need an import certificate from Dept of Livestock in BKK [www.dld.go.th] you can apply in person or send someone else, the website will explain.
They also say you can fax or e-mail, this is what I am trying to do from the UK with no success yet, a bit of a worry as we leave for Phuket next month.
From the uk you will need an export certificate from DEFRA [google for website]
The dogs will need to be chipped and injecyed for various diseases including rabies. This has to be from a certified vet, the list of vets can be obtained from DEFRA.
Finally the dogs have to be checked by a vet NO MORE then 72 prior to departure for infestations etc. Get them sprayed with frontline and this will take care of any nasties.
Also have them wormed.
Hope all this helps
Stuart
By the way one of our dogs is a retriever, his grandad was a Krufts champ, shame you are so far away in Chiangmai.

Hi
I have to go to the Dept of livestock control in BKK, could anyone tell me of any decent but not too expensive hotels in that area please?
The last time I was in BKK was 1977 so I am a bit out of touch!

On a more mundane note after the thread on Phuket being c**p, not something I subscribe to, I find it the most wonderful place.
Could someone give me a guide on how much to pay for a cleaner for a house on 2 half days a week?
I don't want to be mean but I don't want to be ripped off either.

Hi
We are moving to Phuket next month and the rules and regs are a nightmare, can anyone help me please?
The dogs are fully vaccinated and DEFRA rules have been followed {UK]
DEFRA say there is no need for an import certificate from the UK, Thai consul Hull says same. However Airline says you need an import certificate as does Thai Embassy London.
I asked how to get form and they said you have have to collect one in person from the Dept of livestock development in BKK IN PERSON!! This is a bit difficult from Manchester.
Can anyone help please, I have scrolled through the site but everyones story seems to contradict each other.
Cheers

change them at Super Rich when you arrive in Bangkok.
I don’t know about Super Rich and Google can’t help me.
To the OP: presumably, you already have an account with a Thai bank and I suggest that you order your UK bank to transfer GBP. If your Thai bank has a website, you can look up the exchange rate on their site. Obviously, the bank cannot give you a rate for a date in the future. The rate you get will be the rate for the day when your money arrives in your Thai bank.

Hi
I do have a Thai a/c but if I transfer a sterling amount [£50,000] would the Gov keep 30% for a year?
Many thanks

Hi
Could any of the financial whizz kids here tell me the best way to transfer sterling into THB to get the best possible rate, I am in the UK at the moment but am relocating to Phuket in April.
Many thanks

I would go for the boathouse as well, beautiful place, not cheap though

I think you will find covering your mouth whilst having a good old root around is considered good manners in most places around the world, certainly in the UK.
I wouldn't appreciate a piece of stringy chicken flicked into my drink and don't really want to see what you have just eaten lol

Hi
I am also looking to rent a 2/3 bed house/bungalow on the east or south of the island, [draw a line from Chalong to Karon, anywhere on or below that line]
A/C and a walled garden a must.
Any help would be appreciated with suitable liquid rewards when I get there! [can't wait]
