  1. quick everybody do a speed test to the same website at the same time!

Check your real broadband speed here:

    http://speedtest.thaivisa.com

Please paste in the results, and also which ISP and plan you are using, Thanks!

PS! I'm right now on CAT-CDMA (800 Baht/month) and it looks very good:

Download Speed: 1373 kbps (171.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 352 kbps (44 KB/sec transfer rate)

    source: http://speedtest.thaivisa.com

    Faster than a speeding noodle...DTAC GPRS :)

  2. Back in the days of first class my ex and I often I used our FF points ( gained through economy travel) to fly Canada to NZ , Oz, Hawaii etc on the now defunct Canadian Pacific..great service ...sheepskin covered seats etc..... our young twin boys we stuck in economy and they loved it

( independence and fawning hostesses...lots of in flight "goodies") .

In later years when in their teens they flew business when we "negotiated" upgrades...spent most of the time down the back.."soooo boring up here". Now one of 'em is purser on a premium Arab airline in Kuwait and advises me that has very few problems with kids and many of his "upmarket" passengers behave more like children...lol

  3. Going to Pak? OR Afgan?

or maybe to your country... :)

Its so funny how some people so ignorant of the political situations around the world...

Afghanistan was infested by US weapons in 80's during so called war against communism. Bin Laden was Fighter of the Year by Times magazine coz he was fighting against USSR with US weapons.

They created a monster and now they cant control it and ignorant people like you pointing fingers towards other countries who are fighting a useless war of US in Afghanistan...

Only if US never attacked Afghanistan, world would have been much better place now... Thanks to new-cons...

Only for you're world maybe mate..you talk of ignorance.....have you any idea of the conditions under which the the Afghans lived under the Taliban and during the civil wars/communism?? ...do some research....the US is is not the worst that could have happened to their country by a long shot....their whole history has been one oppressor after another coupled with waring factions within!!

Okay just read this Times on line:

    From The Sunday Times

    December 13, 2009

    World news in brief

    *

    Arms seized at Thai airport

Thai security forces seized more than 35 tons of arms, including missiles and explosives, and arrested five crew members after a cargo plane made an emergency landing to refuel at a Bangkok airport yesterday. The flight from North Korea was thought to be heading for Sri Lanka.

  4. This was sent to me from my sister Switzerland....thought I would share it..great for kids...Nice

OOPs the "system" don't allow it.....bah humbug!!! If anyone would like... it pm me.

I've uploaded the first slide pasted to word.....

    Xmas_.ppt.doc

  5. We live in the south and usually take a return sleeper train cabin to Bangkok comfortable and pretty quick for a train ( 14 hrs to Thung Sung) .best bet for you might be Bangkok to Trang? Can't remember how much... think less than 3000 baht one way for two?

Lots of lovely beaches down here ....my favorites on Ko Lanta. (island south of Krabi accessible by two car ferries at about 60 baht?.google it!)...cheap(800baht to mid priced bungalows "on the beach" and trips to islands fishing/scuba/snorkeling etc. Wife says lots of beautiful beaches on islands off Krabi too but we've never been. Since we had a sailboat for a while we got to lots of "go buck naked and enjoy" little islands and beaches in the Andaman but I am sure there are lots of longtail sojourns available from most of the southern beaches .lots of better places than Phuket....have fun...

  6. wow... I'm glad I read this, I was just thinking about a Nissan Navarra... thanks... :)

Check out UK and US consumer sites..seems these Nissan trucks suffer from everything that makes 'em run. .....Had a mate with one in Melbourne..everyday a new sad story...he sold it and bought an Isuzu.

I have an OLD Mazda Fighter same same Ranger....would like to buy a new one tomorrow (Just need the 800k lol )excellent truck takes lots of abuse ..hope the BT50 is as good.

  7. This message from Mr. Seagal was send 4 year ago :D or send to Thaksin to enact this law in Cambodia.

Mr Seagal needs to check his sources before making any statements, what would be his next statement.

Asking the prime Minster off Japan to inforced striks security laws for mining in South Kazakhstan as this interupt the habitat off the North Chinees rabit.

His statements are on the same level as his acting, please sh@@ Up and you maybe get Nobel piece price next year.

    THANK YOU mr Seagal

    :):D :D :D :D :D :D

Your sooo right Mr Seagal is absolutely the worst actor!!.... also, ever notice the minimal number of worthwhile lines he has in his movies, all he seemed to do is put on his "tough guy" squint ? I always thought he must have "bought" his acting career. He was never a Jet Lee that's for sure.

I guess he doesn't have an elephants' memory either....

  8. David - either or both- turn off pump at night (already suggested by Rimmer)

Also don't flush after a piss on midnight visits, leaving the flush in the toilet tank for 'other'

Whoever gets up in am to cook the sticky rice can turn the pump back on.

I have solved the pump running dry & overheating problem, but that is not your problem here -

Thanks Scews..."in the land of sun and fun we never flush for number one" in my mates cabin in the wilds of Canada...good philosophy me thinks..

    cheers

  9. Turn off or unplug the house pump when you go to bed, and on again in the morning, we did that for years in the old house after one toilet washer gun hose burst and flooded the entire place out into the street.

There is one flush of water in the cistern for midnight runs to the comfort room.

Great.... simple and effective thanks ..how come I didn't think of that..lol

    cheers

  12. I am not surprised , it has taken me almost a year & a half to dial in our Kohler. It has stuck a bunch of times I finally machined some parts with my neighbors metal lathe. The flapper nut (the one that holds down the post with the flapper is prone to falling off as well.) Threadlock to the rescue. My neighbors 20,000 Naam throne same problems. Now I don't laugh at the people that post I am bringing my own throne from England. The rubber they have been using here since 2004 or longer(I moved here then & am not sure what year they started using rubber instead of wax) But as Dr. Naam can attest to if you do not watch the workers the trick is to pitch the gasket in the bin & cement the toilet in. <deleted>. The rubber probably last 5-10 years the cement(besides it looking like <deleted> ) who knows.I will use the ceramics for the toilet & pick up the inner workings & pack them in my check in box for the new house in June when I go back to the U.S. At least I know it will work. 2000 liters is a lot of water & will deplete a well quickly-especially in hot season when the water table is low!

Oh good!.. thought it was just me lol.

Just finished f..g around with the offending throne (4500 baht "Karat" everything is nylon or plastic except the arm which is brass and of course the ceramics)..nylon composition cam, cheap little plastic flush handle.. nylon needed a bit of filing off burrs to allow full throw and return..seems okay now..oh yes noticed the little rubber fill pipe was so short it was potentially binding on the arm so put in a longer one ( rubber hose from a broken foot pump).

Yeah gotta get a 2nd tank soon... the well gets a bit low in dry season. Have another well about 200/300 metres from the house which seems to stay full, it would I suppose since it ain't used, but have not got around to plumbing up the hill to the house..bloody pump would have to a biggy.another year perhaps.....

Can just see you going thru customs with a loo bits ..lol probably think they are for a thermo nuclear device..

I brought in wax seals from Canada on my last trip as the units did not come with them.. store people selling toilets told me to use silicone..they had never heard of wax seals...

    cheers

  13. Just a "heads up" for some of us on stored well water:

For the third time in two years now, I have awoken to our pressure pump running and no water.

Problem ..2000l tank empty ( manually filled tank ie we switch on the well pump every day or so)

Reason : Flush toilet arm stuck ''up" and the water continually running until out of water. ( usually happens after a mid night "comfort visit" when the old wits are not into checking all is well with the house plumbing.....)

I have been wracking my brain to discover a simple guard against this potential problem to no avail....any thoughts welcome.

I am gonna add a little weight to the chains on both toilets to force the arm and flapper valve down..maybe it'll work?

So much for the quiet flush/fill Koeler and the like modern units ....cannot hear the toilet "running".....such is progress!

  14. you don't need water circulating pump - the hot water will flow up and the cold fill from the tank

The solar collector will be on the roof and the water tank will be on the ground. I'll also need a flow control valve at the return line to assure that the coil stays full of water and in the coil long enough to collect the heat.

Please add a flow chart of your system! You are planning a forced cycle system - expensive and difficult.

    Cheers from Samui,

    Claude

Obviously I haven't explained it very well. Forget about the water supply to the house. This is an insulated tank at ground level. A small circulating pump pumps water to a coil on the roof through the coil and back to the tank on the ground. That is a simple closed system. The only complicated part is a timer to tell the pump when to run. Ideally it would be thermostatically controlled.

..maybe a solar powered (12v marine suppliers have 'em)pump?? Solar cell could be located so that it gets shaded at the appropriate time...just a thought...

  15. As a "cheap" scotch drinker...Just purchased a bottle of "Blend 285"...200Baht

Not bad ...far nearer scotch flavour..Thai beverage web site says it has a scotch base..worth a try ..far better than when Sangsom and as good as 100 pipers if you're mixing or even straight up

  16. Thanks to all for the great info ...

After consideration maybe I WILL just rent an operated unit..did lots of that before when building our house and digging wells etc not so expensive..800-1400/hr. It seemed the hired units always had problems ..lol ...hydraulics and cooling systems among them..probably cos of all the rock we have..

    thanks again guys

  17. There is a fax service that is called Pamfax and it can be linked to Skype. Not free but small fees

    Pamfax

Used this often using "skype out credit" then it all went tits up and PAMFAX told me I have to buy PAMFAX credit as Skype is not prepared to fix linked charge software issues. Good service though works well....not expensive.

  18. Blackberry Supply a 3G Network throughout Thailand, 650 Baht Monthly Unlimited Use / Download/ with Other Packages Available. I use it on a Blackberry Storm Since 5 Months ago from Down South to the North have never been with out service.

Leigh1979:Had a good google on this.....seems WAP technology used by the Blackberry Storm is AIS ( Blackberry does not own any wireless network) which does not have G3 ... your probably using GPRS and WIFI where available...

Thanks for the "heads up" though. Looks a great product especially as it is quadband.

    cheers
