Major News Outlets Refuse To Sign Pentagon Media Rules
Major News Outlets Refuse To Sign Pentagon Media Rules The U.S. Defense Department has revised its press access guidelines, prompting concerns from media organizations about transparency. The new rules, outlined in a memo from Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder, aim to streamline press operations but have sparked debate over potential restrictions on journalists’ ability to report on defense matters. Under the updated policy, reporters must submit requests for access to briefings, with the Pentagon reserving the right to approve or deny based on space, security, or other operational needs. The changes also limit the number of journalists allowed at certain events and impose stricter pre-registration requirements. Media groups, including the Pentagon Press Association, argue the rules could hinder timely and independent reporting on military activities. Critics fear the guidelines give the Defense Department excessive control over who covers sensitive topics like national security, defense spending, and military operations. The Pentagon insists the updates enhance efficiency and security without undermining press freedom. Ryder emphasized that the department values open communication and will continue to engage with journalists to ensure public access to information. The policy shift comes amid heightened scrutiny of government transparency. Media outlets are urging the Pentagon to reconsider the restrictions to maintain robust coverage of defense issues. As the debate continues, the balance between national security and press freedom remains a critical issue.Key Takeaways New Guidelines: Pentagon revises press access rules, requiring pre-registration and approval for briefings. Media Concerns: Rules may limit journalists’ ability to report on defense and national security issues. Transparency Debate: Changes spark discussion on balancing security with press freedom. Thai restaurant bans Israelis. Israelis respond with boycott!!!
The topic can be heated and contentious, however it is a subject within the public domain, and it is reported in English speaking Thai media. It is a fact that some Thai establishments have banned Israelis, and that is a topic for discussion as most Westerners are loath to condone discrimination in any form. So I'll let the topic roll.

There have been signs in Pai and there was an article in AseanNow in the past discussing that signage. The photo by MalcolmB above comes from that article. No - I don't have the link. I have seen that article.

FBI Reveals Jack Smith's Surveillance of GOP Senators in Jan. 6
FBI Reveals Jack Smith's Surveillance of GOP Senators in Jan. 6 Probe In a startling disclosure, newly reviewed FBI documents indicate that former Special Counsel Jack Smith authorized surveillance on the private phone communications of nearly a dozen Republican lawmakers during his investigation into the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. This revelation, uncovered through an oversight probe led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), highlights potential overreach in the "Arctic Frost" election interference inquiry. The surveillance, detailed in a September 2023 FBI "CAST Assistance" memo, involved preliminary toll analysis of call records subpoenaed from major telecom providers. Smith's team accessed data on call recipients, origins, and endpoints—without content—for senators including Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), and Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), as well as Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.). Sources suggest the monitored calls related to the 2020 election certification vote. FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who spearheaded the review, condemned the actions as weaponization of federal law enforcement. "It is a disgrace that the FBI was once weaponized to track the private communications of U.S. lawmakers for political purposes," Bongino stated. Patel echoed this, vowing, "Under our leadership, the FBI will never again be used as a political weapon against the American people." The pair is briefing affected lawmakers on Capitol Hill to ensure transparency. Launched in April 2022 and inherited by Smith in November, the Arctic Frost probe culminated in charges against former President Donald Trump for election subversion, later dismissed post-reelection at a taxpayer cost exceeding $50 million. Critics argue this surveillance underscores concerns over FBI impartiality in high-stakes political investigations, prompting calls for stricter oversight in Jan. 6-related probes. This development reignites debates on government surveillance ethics, echoing broader scrutiny of federal probes into election integrity and Capitol security. Key Takeaways Targeted Surveillance: Jack Smith's team monitored phone toll records of at least nine GOP senators and one representative, focusing on calls tied to the 2020 election certification amid the Jan. 6 investigation. FBI Leadership Response: Directors Patel and Bongino labeled the actions a "disgraceful" politicization of the bureau, committing to full transparency and prevention of future abuses. Oversight Origins: The disclosure stemmed from Sen. Grassley's request, revealing the "Arctic Frost" case as a sensitive, prohibited matter with significant taxpayer-funded implications. Farmer bailout
First - Stay on topic. Bickering is not "on-topic." Please stop. Bickering posts hidden. Second - This is about farmers bailouts, which by the way, I see no link to. OP @Tug Drop a link into this thread so members know what you're actually discussing. I tempted to close this as I really don't know what the purpose of this thread is without a reference to a source about "farmer bailouts" in the US. Third - I suggest referring to Spidermike007 to get back on track as its about the only post which is linked to a source that discusses farmer bailouts. I've dropped links which discuss a "bailout" for US soybean farmers. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/02/trump-bailouts-farmers-tariffs-usda-00591846 https://edition.cnn.com/2025/10/05/business/farmer-bailout-trump-tariffs https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-bailout-trade-hit-us-farmers-expected-this-week-2025-10-06/ https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/world/trump-bailout-for-trade-hit-us-farmers-expected-this-week/ar-AA1NZdSY

Honestly, what drives my decision to use one or the other is product availability and product price. Other than that I find both platforms useful for online shopping. My overall satisfaction for each platform is about the same. I use them both.

Has this forum collectively given up on the UK?
Once more - keep on topic. This isn't about the US or anything in the US. Posts with comparisons to the US are fine, as long as you compare and contrast. Posts about the US as the sole content of the post are off-topic. Once more the topic is: "Has this forum collectively given up on the UK?"

Notice to those who want to continue to post about Trump. Next up I'll be issuing warnings. This topic is: Has this forum collectively given up on the UK? Please stay on topic.

SS Direct Deposit Thailand
To be honest, I've seen the SSA checks deposited as late as the 7th of the month. It is usually caused by either a holiday in the US, or a holiday in Thailand. I wait until the 7th before I get concerned, but up to now I've always gotten the deposit by the 7th. So as others have said, relax. It's just a matter of time. Look on Thai and US calendars to see if there are any holidays, and don't worry until after the 7th - then drop Manila an email.
