  1. hey u rekn some guys will be looking to offload an er6n a bit cheaper once the er6f comes out?

I don't doubt that a lot of ER6n's will become available, but not sure they'll be "cheaper" because of the ER6f- I plan to sell my ER6n when the ER6f becomes available. The ER6f has been wicked fun, but I could really use a fairing for the kind of high speed touring I like to do and I think that ABS could be a real life saver here on Thailand's unpredictable roads.

Let's see, my ER6n's got 12,000 km on it now, I probably won't go on too many long trips during the rainy season, I've added the TWO BROS, frame sliders all around, and upgraded the rubber to Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pro's. Whaddya think the bike is worth? I'm thinking somewhere between 210-220K Baht?

  2. hi, i thought my question would be appropriate here instead of starting a new topic. Ive lived here for nearly 4 hours without working but would like to start earning a little extra cash and due to my lack of qualifications i think english teaching would be only option....

p.s if there is anybody in the chonburi city or sriracha areas that teach that would be willing for me to sit in on a class and watch i would be very grateful.

You've been here for nearly 4 hours!!! and you are already out of cash!? Thailand is going to eat you up and spit out the bones :)

Your lack of qualifications will stop you from getting the better paying jobs but there are plenty of schools that will take you. If you are interested in working in Bangkok then you can PM me for more info and tips.

haha sorry, was a tad hung over yesterday and didnt proof read it, i meant 4 years. thanks for the offer but i quite like living in the chonburi area and live quite close to alot of factories so thought that could an option also, ive heard of some people teaching at them. cheers mate

  3. hey tony, wow that looks awesome, shouldve known theyre would already be a pretty good rider club setup, thanks for the pics they look great, noticed the ang-sila temple, i live pretty close to it, hope to join one day.

^ Ah- is that the name of that Chinese temple near Bang Saen? I'd always wanted to check it out, and thanks to the Kawasaki ride I finally did :)

yeah thats the one mate, out of all the temples i have been in thailand it is my favourite, so quiet and no real tourists, well not bus loads or anything anway and some good cheap seafood around there. hey u rekn some guys will be looking to offload an er6n a bit cheaper once the er6f comes out?

  4. yeah, got the feeling he might be saying 1 month just to entice hey. is there a kawasaki riders club or anything, i could see with the popularity of this bike and the 6f an awesome riders club developing, hundreds of these things riding all together down the highway would look awesome, especially if could develop into charity rides etc

  5. thats a sweet sounding exhaust mate, where and how much did you get it for? is it pretty easy to find it at most bike shops etc, cheers mate

I've seen the TWO BROS for sale at Red Baron for 19,900 Baht and at the Kawasaki Mityon in Pattaya for a whopping 25,xxx Baht. :)

I've got a couple on the way from the US that should arrive this weekend and will be happy to sell you one for only 15,000 Baht. :D

One is already reserved, PM me if interested in the other one- first come first serve. Massive improvement over the stock can:

hey tony, thanks for that mate but unfortunately i havnt even saved up the pennies for the bike yet so i think il do that first and contact you at a later stage and see if its still possible, if not no worries. i finally went to kawasaki pattaya couple days ago to check it out in person, its a beautiful looking bike isnt it, looks twice as good in real life also. nway thanks fr the info and hope can join u for a ride in the future. cheers, jonny

  6. Thais often do not answer emails; Brits usually answer. I encountered something smilar - maybe with a CELTA provider - and chose a more responsive course provider.

Well Eccthai look one of the best and was suggested so I suppose I have to visit in person.

I found ECC to be quite efficient, very responsive and they always answered my emails. Maybe you could call them? All the staff speak English. Assuming you're not yet in Thailand, you'll probably have to do a short telephone interview anyway.

There's a lot of information about accommodation on their website; I really wouldn't worry about it. Come out a week or two early to acclimatise and prepare and just book a hotel within your budget. Then spend a morning at ECC talking to them and look for a hotel near the course centre with adequate facilities for studying. There are plenty to suit all budgets.

I'm sorry your original thread was closed. CELTA is a great course for someone who has never taught before and it should give you a lot of confidence to start your TEFL career (if that's what you want to do!). If you're just looking for something to pay your way while you're in Thailand, there are cheaper and possibly more suitable alternatives, particularly courses relating specifically to teaching kids. Since doing my CELTA at ECC in 2005, I've spent 3 years teaching kids and teenagers, plus some adults and corporate work, and now I only teach IELTS and corporate and earn a nice salary. My CELTA training was invaluable and a requirement for my current job.

    Good luck!

what are the courses that are more suitable to teachng kids? thanks

  7. hi, i thought my question would be appropriate here instead of starting a new topic. Ive lived here for nearly 4 hours without working but would like to start earning a little extra cash and due to my lack of qualifications i think english teaching would be only option. I am 27 years old, australian, look respectable etc but i have no previous teaching experience and only really have high school qualifications. I was hoping some of you could give me some advice on what i should do to go about teaching, is simply doing the tefl course enough? would it be possible to sit in with other english teachers to learn how they teach etc? how do you go about what you teach on a day to day basis etc.

thanks for any advice and info you provide, its much appreciated.

p.s if there is anybody in the chonburi city or sriracha areas that teach that would be willing for me to sit in on a class and watch i would be very grateful.

    thanks

  8. can someone explain to me why the triumphs are so expensive here even though they are made here and why this kawasaki is so cheap or how all of a sudden it became cheap? the kawasaki er6n is imported right? who actually determines the price/markup of these things? or is it some tax loophole they have found or negiotiated? anybody think triumph prices will go down, couple nice models theyve and judging by the er6n popularity if they dropped price a bit im sure they would be just as popular.

This has been addressed a few times in different threads.

I'm paraphrasing and apologize in advance if some of the details are a bit off. It goes something like this: Kawasaki negotiated a domestic sales agreement into their BOI contract that allows them to sell their Thai built bikes as domestically produced goods, which saves them from having to pay the import duty. Triumph apparently failed to do this and as such even though they do build some twin cylinder bikes in Thailand (Triumph triples are still assembles in the UK), these bikes are subject to normal BOI rules and must be imported from the tax free BOI zone into Thailand, with all import duties paid.

Even so, there was an astute member on the GT Rider site who calculated the import duties and determined that Triumph Thailand is still taking the piss with the prices on their bikes in Thailand.

Same can be said for Yamaha. Have you seen the massive price increases Yammie implememted for 2009?

    2009 Yamaha FZ6 for 490,000 Baht vs 2009 Kawasaki ER6n for 225,000 or ER6f ABS for ~280,000 Baht

    2009 Yamaha R1 for ~880,000 Baht vs 2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R for 650,000 Baht

Now if only Kawasaki would import the Ninja ZX6R, I would be sorely tempted... :)

It seems to me that Yamaha is not even trying to compete with Kawasaki... Doesn't seem like the best long term strategy, but as long as Yammie keeps landing multi million baht orders with the Thai Highway Police I guess they really don't need to worry about retail sales...

    TiT Baby! :D

thanks for that bigbikebkk, sorry if it was an old question re-adressed, i know i saw it asked somewhere before but couldnt remember where and i really wanted to know the answer, thanks for taking the time to answer.

  10. im pretty sure the reason they have pulled out comes down to World Sports Group owning the rights/tv rights to many of the asian tour events and i believe W.S.G is now with oneasia so im sure you will see another 5 or 6 tournaments from the asiantour dissapearing this year alone, whether they go to oneasia or just get cancelled will be interesting. Will also be interesting to see if there is much of an asian tour left next year.

  11. i too would not buy them anything, i had some labourers doing some work for me and did buy them beers on occasion to be nice and in the hope they would be nice and do a good job in return, instead they just took the piss, did a shit job and always requested beers at the end of the day. Be nice and find out what they are actually saying, if it is rude then talk to their supervisor and tell him if it continues you will get the head of police from your area to pay a visit, the supervisor definately wouldnt want that incase they are working iilegally.

  12. cheers fellas, candoman what area are those courses? not familiar with them.

UNICO is just off Srinakarin road and right beside Krung Thep Kreeta course (Bangkok)

Lotus Valley-head out past Lam Luuka and keep on going

Panya Indra near fashion Island (Bangkok)

thanks for the info about Bangkpakong riverside..........i usually play there once a month.......will be sure to call them.

ahh cool, thanks mate, have yet to play in bangkok, i normally stick to the courses around chonburi, will tro to get out that way sometime.

i imagine bangpakong should be in good condition if there playing a tourni there at the moment, especially the tourni in july is a main thailand tour tourni so they will be getting it nice for that and the current promo of 1450 for golf, cart, caddy and 100 baht food/drink voucher at halfway houses insnt bad either. might catch you out there sometime.

cool, haha about the caddies, there are definately some nice youngens that work there so keep an eye out and get some numbers next time, not very flirty etc there though.

I played at Bangpakong Riverside on Sat 2nd May. The course was in good condition, the rough was quite deep which I guess was due to the preparation for the tournament. (Unfortunately my group scraped the bottom of the barrel with regards to caddy allocation on the day...hope we get better caddies there next time).

Bangpakong Riverside is closed at the moment due to a tournament, cant remember when they will re-open, think at least a week and will also be closed for a week or so in july so check with them if going to play there, doesnt mention anything on their website either.

  15. Golf in Pattaya, I would like to recommend you should visit Pattaya Country Club & Resort boasts over 2,000 rai of Private land. Enjoy a round of golf on this standard 18- hole golf course and you will not regret it. It is by far the largest and arguably the best golf course in the area, including a mini golf course for beginners. The course has all the facilities you need and is just 15km from Pattaya. The accommodation and entertainment at this country club are also outstanding.

Further information please contact to [email protected]

you obviously have some connection with them as compared so many other courses in the area it a goat track.

Burapha Golf Club is your best met mate, the range is really good and also have 2 sperate greens to chip and putt, one is located down near the club house while the other is near the range, also have a bunker at the one near the clubhouse and the grass on the greens was in great condition last time i was there.

  16. So if you have played at any courses very recently that you think deserve a review, whether bad or good which can help each other to decide where to play that would be great.

I post reviews on the golf courses I play on the thaigolfer.com website. They have a section for golf course reviews, which I find very helpful.

yeah thats a good site but ive found often that the reviews are quite old.

  17. i was hoping this could be an ongoing topic where we can comtinually update about course conditions and which courses are good and not so good at the moment as i have noticed alot of times here in thailand the course quality changes alot, especially in the low season some courses seem to neglet them or be doing work on them, which can be quite dissapointing when turn up to play.

So i will start. I just played at Pattana Sports Club the other day and was a bit dissapointed, have played there many times before and its always been in pretty good condition but seems like the greens are getting quite bad and there has always been alot of flies there for some reason but they seem to be getting worse aswell as those really small insects {malang wii} that hang around your face and ears while trying to hit, the rest of the course is pretty good however and it has to be one of the best clubhouses ive ever seen. Just in terms of previous condition it is worse, maybe that is why it is so cheap for pattaya sports club membrs at the moment so for the price i dont want to complain too much.

So if you have played at any courses very recently that you think deserve a review, whether bad or good which can help each other to decide where to play that would be great.

  18. had mine taken out here, its fine mate. had mine done at phyathai hospital in sriracha which about 20 - 30 minutes drive from pattaya towards bangkok. they have a dental section in there and were very good made alot easier by the dentist being absolutely gorgeous. from memory was around 3 or 4000 baht for 2 teeth and something like 10-15000 to be put asleep for the procedure, i took the cheap option and it was fine.

  19. i also get these same insects occasionly at my place, only vary rarely though so i dont know when or why they come but in the morning there will be the wings lying everywhere and the ants come to eat their bodies. I would give the hotel the benifit of the doubt on this one and at least you got a nice apology for something that they had no real control over, i could have imagined a thai person blaming you instead for leaving lights on inside!

  20. yeah thanks fellas, that was the place i was looking for and have already contacted Laurent, he should be able to sort something out for me end of the month hopefully.

draggons - thanks for that offer mate but that wont be neccessary on behalf of me but if you do go and look into one for yourself could you please let me know what you find out, he told me he would probably be able to get me one towards the end of this month, so il wait and see. If you do get one we'll have to do some paddling together if you want.
