  1. And why not? I pay a legitimate and reliable agent with an excellent reputation to handle ALL my Immigration requirements each year, including visa extension, 90 day report, TM whatevers etc adinfinitum. This reduces my personal interaction with Immigration down to 5 minutes each year when I have my photograph taken. The rest of my retirement is mine to enjoy, free of concern that I might miss an important date, forget to fill out a form properly, have to wait for long periods in Immigration along with the great unwashed masses, have to play thrust and parry with Immi. staff during the annual renewal etc etc etc. The next time I get married I may even consider using an agent for that also, perhaps they can also supply the wife too. ????
  2. Aetna says: In the Northern Hemisphere, flu season usually starts in October and peaks in December before ending in March, but in the Southern Hemisphere, it lasts from June to September. https://www.aetna.co.th/en/whats-new/blogs/10-tips-to-prevent-and-manage-flu-and-other-seasonal-viruses Confusing and conflicting information from different sources.
  3. Try asking for the generic name which is Glimepiride.
  4. I don't believe that's correct. The flue season in Asia is November through March, the ideal time to get the flu vaccine in Thailand is September. The vaccine we receive here is based on the flu virus that has circulated in the Southern Hemisphere between the preceding May and July. Flu season in the West is between December and March, the vaccine administered there is updated to include the mutations that have occurred in Asia previously. The entire process starts in the southern hemisphere, not in the West and not here.
  5. What a ridiculous title to the thread, it bears no relationship to what actually happened.
  6. I have owned three new vehicles here and kept each one for about seven years, all were Honda or Toyota. I sold each one for more than 50% of the purchase price plus I made substantial amounts on the exchange rate for the first two vehicles. As I wrote earlier, my current Vigo looks like it will return over 50% of the purchase price also, all of which is a really good deal, I think. I rented on a monthly basis, a long time ago plus my wife also bought a used car several years ago which was an absolute disaster financially. For me there's no other way to go than to buy a new vehicle, it just makes so much sense on every front.
  7. A Toyota dealer just offered me 320k for my 2013 Vigo 4 door against a new mid range Vigo at 874k. I checked when I got home and see my year/model selling locally for up to 475k but realistically achieving around 425k. My next door neighbor stopped by, a Chinese man I've known for two years, he said he'd give me 400k there and then! So yes, at least 100k under market value....sell privately.
  8. There is some form of life insurance that is available through the amphur or tessaban but I don't know the specifics, my wife tells me that her mother has such a policy. But main stream insurance companies in Thailand will be reluctant to offer policies to 70 year olds and if they do they will be subject to a medical.
  9. Sorry, I misread what you wrote, I'm wrong..
  10. I think, I hope, you meant to write, "for the sole purpose of remaining fit".
  11. The chances of you being randomly attacked in the street are infinitesimally small. As long as you remain polite, sober and don't engage in risky behavior your life in Thailand will be as trouble free as mine has been for the past 30 years. The best self defense I can recommend for you is to stop watching videos on social media!
  12. A local rental car will have local insurance, I dunno what they require.
  13. Exactly, at age 62 you surely have learned how to simply walk away.
  14. As with many things here the answer is, yes but!
  15. That may well be what the law says but in practice I cannot imagine many Thai policemen being happy that they are shown a license they can't read. The other aspect is, what are the rental car insurance rules on licenses?
  16. This seems to vary by location and from person to person, it makes sense they would allow everyone to get a Thai license because it makes everything easier. But sense never was a part of the process here so who knows.
  17. I have no idea what will happen so I will head to a nice beach somewhere and wait to find out, even if it take weeks or months, life's too short to do otherwise.
  18. To be valid the license would need to be translated into Thai and certified by the issuer, this means an international drivers permit from his own country. He could get a two year Thai drivers license which can be done quite easily and without a driving test, just by presenting his Oz license and doing some simple reaction/color blindness tests.
  19. I'm pretty sure that the sharing of tax information goes into effect either 2023 or 2024.
  20. Most Thai people think of farang ID as their passport, if you have a Thai driving license that nearly always is sufficient.
  21. The deposit insurance fund is operated by the DPA which is independent of government. The DPA takes a fee from all member banks and this forms the basis of the insurance policy. The scheme was started originally in order to give consumers more confidence in the Thai banking system following the 97 crash, for that reason the amount of coverage was very high to start with, over THB 10 mill. As time dragged on and the balance sheets of the banks stabilized and became much stronger, the need to insure high amounts fell away. The total amount of coverage has been reduced year on year for many years, there is no longer any need for it and almost everyone agrees. As things stand presently, if a bank went bust, the dpa scheme would reimburse over 95% of account holders ALL their money, this is because the average balance is well below 1 mill. https://www.dpa.or.th/en/articles/view/list-of-insured-financial-institutions
  22. I've never needed a resident certificate to sell a car, only to buy one. The seller doesn't even need to attend the DLT office, just sign the form and provide a copy of passport (signed), that's it.
