  1. Your questions were answered when you posted them previously!
  2. Up to you, but slagging off Thai banks and calling them all crooks, just because it's an easy answer and you can't be bothered to find out the real answer, seems a bit off. There have been plenty of posts from Brit expats in Thailand complaining that their UK accounts have been closed because they don't have a UK address, it's the same problem, tax avoidance rules and AMLO. I am near certain if you were to walk into your branch you would have access to your money although you may no longer have an account.
  3. Go troll and bait somebody else.
  4. The outcome is exactly the same regarding the price of petrol relative to home currency, regardless of whether CAD or GBP is used, do the math. If you want to beat me up for having misread the post and used GBP instead of CAD, be childish and go for it, it doesn't change the outcome of the example however.
  5. You need to contact the bank and find out why it was closed, you can be almost certain it wasn't closed for criminal reasons, it's simply that you don't understand why it was closed! Go ask them, call them, go find out and let us all know. One possibility is that banks have been implementing a range of anti-money laundering processes over the past couple of years, the fact that you're making transfers into the account from overseas, plus you haven't made any in country transactions on the account, may have something to do with what happened.
  6. Of which, import tax is 297 baht plus local taxes of 350 baht for a total of 647 baht on 1,000 baht bottle. https://www.siamdevelopment.com/wine-import-tax-in-thailand/
  7. S&P Futures up 1.45% on the news, phew!
  8. Out of touch. I receive Social Security Retirement benefits from the US whilst living in Thailand.
  9. But depositors there get the same deal, all assets are protected.
  10. It doesn't matter, it's virtually the same thing, CAD = 1.66 per Pound, not 43. Average monthly CAD salary =3,500, not 15,000.
  11. For the benefit of others who may be reading this thread: https://www.moorfields.nhs.uk/sites/default/files/Flashes and floaters.pdf "Flashes of light or black floaters that look like spiders or tadpoles are quite commonly seen by people with normal eyes. They occur because of changes in the vitreous jelly, which lies directly in front of the retina. Any changes in the vitreous jelly can give rise to the appearance of floaters but does not usually lead to any serious problems. No treatment is therefore necessary".
  12. "Financial regulators said Sunday night depositors of the failed Silicon Valley Bank will have access to all of their money starting Monday, March 13". https://finance.yahoo.com/news/us-government-guarantees-all-silicon-valley-bank-deposits-money-available-monday-223546372.html As predicted....let's hope that's enough for the markets.
  13. It's still easily possible to get good value/decent quality rooms inexpensively. We've just returned from a trip to Bangkok and Hua Hin so we've seen prices first hand.
  14. I love it when posters convert the price of a liter of petrol to Pounds and say it costs the same here as in the UK. Well yes, if you do a straight conversion it is, except the average wage here is 15,000 baht a month but the average wage in the UK isn't 15,000 Pounds per month so not exactly apples and apples!
  15. Yes, rain, in Mae Rim at least, not much but enough.
  16. My statements hold true for any bank that is holding those unrealized losses.
  17. I agree of course, but sadly the posters on this forum don't do inversion layers, they're too complicated and anyway, they can't be seen whilst burning can. ????
  18. The SVB bank issue was not just about profit, it was about ignorance and lack of ability. The entire global banking industry has been working since 1975, implementing the likes of the Basel regulatory framework, which is designed (in part) to ensure asset liability mismatches don't occur. Then along comes a single bank that is so focused on its business model that it completely ignores the basics of banking controls and Treasury management.
  19. Buying the filters during low season means they are usually discounted.
  20. During the 1997 Asian crisis, BOT was holding virtually all their foreign currency reserves in long dated securities that it couldn't sell without incurring a loss. That meant there was no liquidity and no defense. Here we are, over 25 years later and banks in the US are still doing exactly the same thing. It seems some people never learn.
  21. Equities took a beating Friday, I'm dreading todays open. ????
  22. Interesting and confusing that you guys have both been through the procedure yet I'm being told it's high risk and to wait, I'm not sure what to think on this point.
  23. I'm going through similar currently and have been seeing Dr Roy at the Rutnin. I tore my retina which was lasered at a private hospital in Chiang Mai after some considerable delay, through not fault of my own. Both retina's were photographed at the Rutnin and found to be well vasculated with no signs of detachment. Despite those things, I still have flashes to one side of the eye in the dark and have fairly recently experienced increasing spiders webs which are only noticeable in bright light. A follow up visit with Dr Roy two weeks ago shows no change to six months prior although it's likely I may go back for another check this month. It seems that treatment is fairly high risk and is only done as a last resort, it's better to live with slightly obscured vision than to risk intervention. If ever the retina starts to peel and a curtain descends, that's the time to have the procedure. What stage are you at? Sorry, I don't have costs details yet because I'm not to that stage. I am considering having the lens replaced in my other eye because of cataracts, that will leave me with one good eye, potentially, if the worst happens.
  24. I practiced hard plus I took an online tutorial, why?
