  1. Three passengers, three pickpockets and four hookers touting for business, a captive audience with no where to run. All we need now is a deckchair lady as well and the picture will be complete.
  2. It sounds like the app download compromises the PIN, at a minimum that should be changed. Next I would consult urgently with your bank and ask them what other steps you should take.
  3. I agree regarding hotels, banks and hospitals but that wasn't what the OP asked, he only asked about flights, perhaps it is a day trip.
  4. We have more blocked spam numbers on our phones than the yellow pages has telephone numbers, it would be a fluke of nature that anyone we know could ever contact us by phone, let alone anyone we don't know. Callers get one chance and 5 seconds at most before they are blocked, that's all, overseas calls don't even get answered, just blocked. My phone is for making calls, not receiving them, unless you are known to me.
  5. The law only states that a foreigners passport should be available for inspection at reasonable notice, nowhere does it state that foreigners must carry their passport with them at all times.
  6. My Lenovo All in One is in it's eighth year, the damned thing won't die but I want a new one.
  7. Ah, now I see. Catterick is used for infantry but Pirbirght is used for armored corp and other branches. Our C Squadron (4/7th was armored) was based at Catterick so I did basic training there, things have moved on and changed since, not surprisingly. Army Training Centre Pirbright delivers the 14 week training course known as the Common Military Syllabus which is completed by all adult recruits when they join the Army. ATC Pirbright delivers Phase 1 Training for new recruits joining: Army Air Corps, Army Medical Services, Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Corps of Royal Engineers, Corps of Army Music, Royal Armoured Corps, Royal Regiment of Artillery, Royal Corps of Signals, Royal Logistic Corps, Adjutant General’s Corps, Intelligence Corps. https://www.army.mod.uk/who-we-are/our-schools-and-colleges/atc- pirbright/
  8. I hate to say this but the army training depot is now Pirbright, not far from Aldershot and Guildford. The days of Catterick Garrison for boot camp are long gone.
  9. DC10, my god, if walls could talk.
  10. I was in the 4/7th RDG's based in Omagh in 66/67, interesting times, beat the h_ll out of Catterick.
  11. A better answer is that different regiments recruit from different areas, as the attached explains. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/869629/Information_regarding_the_recruiting_areas_of_each_infantry_battalion___2019_09785_04_02.pdf
  12. Talking of facts: "In the latest financial year (12 months ending 31 March 2021), for the Royal Navy/Royal Marines, the region with the largest number of intake was South West with 550 personnel while the parliamentary constituency with the largest number of intake was Gosport with 40 personnel. For the Army, the region with the largest number of intake was South East with 1,360 personnel while the parliamentary constituency with the largest number of intake was Richmond (Yorks) with 60 personnel. For the RAF, the region with the largest number of intake was South West with 280 personnel while the parliamentary constituency with the largest number of intake was Sleaford and North Hykeham with 30 personnel." https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/location-of-uk-regular-service-and-civilian-personnel-annual-statistics-2021/annual-location-statistics-1-april-2021
  13. Just having fun that's all.
  14. Does the wife know.
  15. The daughter of Menoeceus, of course, later wife of Oedipus, as in Oedipus complex.
  16. "I know that pattaya and phuket has these kinds of white trash knocking about in the gutter but not usually the kinda places i frequent". A tad arrogant wouldn't you say Bob? It takes all kinds to make a mix, who are we to say that one or another shouldn't be here. Darwinism has a way of sorting out such problems, as do some of the locals.
  17. I have been rethinking what you wrote about having boards in the windows showing what the rate is and that rate being maintained for long periods. I can imagine a scenario where exchange outlets do that during times of high certainty baht strengthening. If the outlet is more or less certain that THB is only going one way, perhaps because of recent economic news, advertising a fixed rate makes some sense from their business perspective. But doing so must make less sense from a customer perspective because it means that as the value of the spot rate reduces, the margin or markup amount increases, making the rate more and more uncompetitive. The only realistic way to see whether an exchange rate is any good or not is to turn on streaming and stream spot rates onto your phone and compare them against the exchange rate being offered by the bank/outlet. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/THB=X?p=THB=X&.tsrc=fin-srch https://markets.ft.com/data/currencies/tearsheet/summary?s=usdthb
  18. Yes, that's why I said earlier that 2019 was an anomaly because odd things happened then that year that aren't easily explained, they actually started in 2018. Tourism from China was one element, the government also got involved in gold purchases/resale from the jewelry industry which produced a large jump in exports (but of course, tourism is an export so perhaps that's it). https://www.bot.or.th/English/MonetaryPolicy/EconomicConditions/AnnualReport/AnnualReport/AnnualReport_2018.pdf https://www.bot.or.th/English/MonetaryPolicy/EconomicConditions/AnnualReport/AnnualReport/AnnualReport_2019.pdf
  19. Sorry, no I'm not, if it came across that way it was unintentional. Look, we may have to agree to disagree on this subject. I simply cannot see how a board rate can be maintained, I can't, to me that's impossible in forex. .
  20. You mentioned exchange rate volatility, here's the hourly and daily volatility charts for THB/USD, 132 to 1117 pips in the course of a single day, there's no way anyone can offer a constant rate throughout the trading day. https://www.myfxbook.com/forex-market/volatility/USDTHB
  21. I gave up my green card in 1985, at that time I could just walk away without any tax obligations thereafter. Subsequently things changed, anyone who gives up their green card now is obliged to fulfill financial obligations for many years.....it's a nonsense and I'm glad I got out when I did.
  22. It's a fact of life that exchange rate booths offer more attractive rates than banks, that's primarily because their overheads are lower, as said earlier, as low as 5 or 7 satang either side of the spot rate. It's also a fact of life that the intraday spot rate is frequently very volatile. With such a small margin to work with, in a volatile environment, no business can afford not to change their rate, unless they have set their margin so high as to absorb any potential fluctuations, in which case they are not competitive. I am 100% certain that all exchange rate booths will have some linkage to a forex system to see what the current spot rate is and any transaction will be relative to what they see, to do anything other than that is to risk loose money on a transaction.
