  1. House repairs/DIY/improvements plus we have large gardens where there's always something needs doing - a guy's gotta have projects. Some time researching my investments, helping my wife with her business, catching up with overseas friends, managing finances and admin stuff, a pleasant lunch out, somewhere different in the mountains, afternoon nap maybe, shopping with my wife, meet up with friends, nothing. Retirement is what you make it and what you want it to be.
  2. It depends on my wife's mood, of late it's been a tent in the garden.
  3. All retail banks in Thailand are Thai owned, there are no international bank branches of the type you seem to be looking for. The Singaporean bank UOB is UOB Thai, The Malaysian bank CIMB is CIMB Thai. Citibank is now UOB, HSBC doesn't have a retail banking license, Bank of China is Bank of China Thai. I think that's it apart from the one of branches of institutions such as BNP, Deutsche and the like but they are not retail banks. https://www.bot.or.th/App/BTWS_STAT/statistics/BOTWEBSTAT.aspx?reportID=904&language=ENG
  4. Do you not read the Thai newspapers and see all the stories about Chinese Triads illegally owning businesses in Thailand and buying Thai ID's? There are shed loads of Chinese here and no, they are not being given a pass, they are the ones being targeted if anyone is.
  5. I don't need to report either, my agent does it for me, instead of having to go to Immi. I have to go to my agent....exactly the same really hence we both have to report. Plus I own a house, a condo, a beach hut and a tree house, retired and living an extremely good life. ????
  6. This is a current account question, the fact it has been in surplus for the past two months and remains so this month, means that THB will strengthen. If the account is in surplus, that means gov. wont have to borrow at the end of the budget year. Here's a link for you to check periodically to confirm that is true. https://tradingeconomics.com/thailand/current-account Why is it in surplus? Because tourism has increased and other exports are still holding their own, despite a slight loss, tourism has taken up the slack.
  7. In over 20 years here I've never even come close to anything like that, not even remotely. I've never been asked for my passport by the police and I've never been anywhere that was raided. Folks don't seem to understand that as far as Thai people are concerned, the word passport is synonymous with ID, offering a drivers license or any other form of ID works just as well, except in banks.
  8. Many farangs need protection from themselves, if immi. doesn't catch them and send them home, goodness only knows trouble they'll get into....they should be thanked for providing a valuable service.
  9. The 365 day, I'm a precious farang and don't deserve to have to do this, visa.
  10. Only a few years ago it was easily possible to find complete teak houses for sale in rural villages, not in the best condition but most of the wood was still sound. Buying them was cheap enough but transporting them was difficult without a police permit, it's still the case.
  11. Two posts made below suppling proof, your move slick.
  12. "Under Thai law you can be required by the police to produce your passport on request. You are not required to have it on your person, but having them escort you back to where you keep it etc may be more trouble than you'd like....and they may not be willing to go with you if where it is, is far away". Per Sheryl, Moderator, see post on page 2, linked below.
  13. see above post and a post from a Moderator further down this page.
  14. "Passports must be at the ready to show officials", it does not state that passports must be carried on the person at all times. https://www.thephuketnews.com/no-passport-required-phuket-immigration-confirms-passport-on-person-not-required-despite-operation-x-ray-outlaw-foreigner-69367.php
  15. Nah, that's the best I want to do as a response to someone who thinks they must be given justifications for everything that impacts them.
  16. You quote some American bloggers advice as proof of your preferred answer and then expect me to post a link to Thai or Immigration law to dispute that, really! If you want to see the law on this point, you go find it. The matter has been discussed here tens of times over two decades, I don't feel the need to justify my understanding, even if you want me to.
  17. The answer is yes but only for your own children, educational fees for other relatives is NOT tax deductible. Mods should feel free to close this thread.
  18. The law only says that your passport must be available for inspection at reasonable notice, it doesn't say you must carry it with you all the time.
  19. If you've been following the press lately you'll have seen that the Chinese triads have been busy buying up Bangkok business during the covid lockdown, a time when I'm sure Immi. wasn't too busy. And several also bought Thai ID's so this is not a small problem. The fact that a few farangs get caught up in it all and many more express moral outrage, is just noise.
  20. Why do we need to understand their logic for having 90 day reports, they are a requirement of the visa, if you don't like 90 day reports, don't get the visa. Thailand doesn't need to justify their reasons for having certain rules in place, certainly not to non-citizens. If you don't like what you perceive as their reasons for having or doing certain things, there are 194 other countries for you to chose from.
  21. Perhaps because people who ignore visa regulations also ignore other laws, I imagine that's probably true.
