It was probably not the first time that she got into troubles because of her allergy. In most cases the adrenaline pen plus cortison will do. However there are a lot of circumstances that it might fail. To ask the waitress only was not the best decision. The chef/cook is the one who should have addressed. It's sadly too late now.

Sounds tragic. Knowing about her allergy she would have been advised to keep always proper medication in her bag as cortisone and adrenaline pen. RIP
